Showtime bringing back Queer As Folk episodes

Showtime QAFSet your DVRs: In honor of gay pride month, Showtime is bringing back all five seasons of Queer as Folk and the complete six seasons of The L Word and Showtime Anytime beginning this summer. Back-to-back episodes of both series will air weeknights at 8 p.m., starting tomorrow, June 2 through June 30, and then exclusively on Thursday nights from July 3 through Nov. 13.

I remember first hearing about the original series in the U.K. and eagerly awaiting this show after Showtime announced they would produce an American version of the storyline.  One year Sergio and I ended up doing a Boston AIDS Walk & Run with actor Scott Lowell who played the buttoned down, conservative friend, “Ted”. We use to have QAF parties since we were one of the few friends who had Showtime. I remember those years and the series fondly.

Cathedral Station to open Thursday, June 12th

Red Sox FanToday, Cathedral Station announced they would open to the public at 7pm on Thursday, June 12th.  Cathedral Station will market itself as Boston’s  gay sports bar, making it a great place to catch a Sox game, meet up with friends or play a game of pool or darts.

Cathedral Station’s opening ends a long streak of gay bars closing. The space is also truly unique since it is the only gay bar in Boston that offers free parking as well as outdoor space.  Welcome to the neighborhood Cathedral Station – I wish you much luck.

Fritz Boston

Manifest by Blake Little

Gay, BearsEarlier this week I was pleasantly surprised when Blake Little’s book, Manifest, arrived at my house. The coffee table book has 100+ pages of men from coast to coast photographed by Blake Little. As Nick Offerman says in the foreward “These people look like men, like real men.”  Clearly my weekly Furry Friday posts have found new found inspiration in Blake’s collection.

Thank you very much for sending this to me. I have proudly placed it on my coffee table and will continue to peruse it. If you’d like to read more about this book or order a copy visit manifestbook.com.

Cathedral Station’s big announcement

Fritz BostonWhen Fritz closed earlier this year many locals bemoaned the loss of such a friendly, neighborhood bar. Recent years has seen a steady decline in operating gay bars here in Boston and only a handful remain. However, shortly after Fritz’s closing rumors started to fly that the staff was looking for a new space to reopen.

Since then, when they would open has been the topic of much discussion.  If you are among the curious speculating when they might open, I would strongly recommend that you check out The Cathedral Station Facebook Page at 5PM.

I need me a serfboard

drunk in love As much as I like Beyonce, I feel like this guy might make a more more interesting video.

It also makes me curious if I’ll see any of these Speedos in Ptown this summer.  If you’re not understanding the reference, feel free to enjoy Drunk in Love.

Much thanks to Seduced by the New for initially sharing this photograph.

Virgin Island: Todd Sanfield and Kevin McDermott

Kevin McDermottVirgin Island looks like a beautiful book of nude photographs by Kevin McDermott of model, recent graduate and underwear entrepreneur, Todd Sanfield. Please take note that the book’s promo video is mildly erotic (like all of Todd’s photos) and contains nudity.

The book is filled with both color and black & white images of Todd Sanfield and the island. While I’ve yet to see the book you can order your own copy at virginislandbook.com.

Throw Back Thursday: BosGuy style

sexy, hairy, man, gayIt is not quite Friday, but I don’t think my readers will mind me sharing a Furry Friday post from last May.  This is more my speed for TBT. Home photos of me from the 80s really serve no purpose other than to remind me of all my fashion faux pas. This, however, I find inspirational.

Have a great Thursday.

When bridezilla brings her friends to your gay bar

Bachelorette PartiesYou know what two words strikes fear into the hearts of gay men?

Bachelorette Party

Growing up it would have been inconceivable to think I would read an article like the one David at Wicked Gay Blog wrote, Please Don’t Host Your Bachelorette Party at my Favorite BarThe sad fact is David’s post is not the first nor is it likely to be the last on the subject and as much as I want everyone to be welcome at a gay bar I wish bachelorette parties would be banned.

The hordes of overexcited drunk / annoying friends dressed in preposterous attire have a way of making gay men feel marginalized in gay bars. I agree with David that we don’t want to listen to your crappy Top 40 requests that are played at your neighborhood bar (BTW – that is where you should be celebrating) and we don’t want to kiss you or feel your boobs just because of some ridiculous list your friends created for you.  Your presence at our bars ruins the experience for the men who have come to what they thought was a gay bar. If you don’t believe me, come back some other night (preferably sober and with one friend rather than an entire sorority). You’ll see that gay bars still play an important part in gay life where friends connect and romances (for one night, one summer, a lifetime) still manifest.  However, none of that is possible when a busload of obnxious women in penis tiaras crash a gay bar.

So I’d like to reiterate David’s message to all the future Bridezillas and their Maids of Honor who plan these evenings out – Please go elsewhere.

Pennsylvanians say buh-bye to DOMA and hello to Marriage Equality

Marriage EqualityThe hangover from all the parties following Oregon’s ruling yesterday, legalizing marriage for same sex couples hasn’t even faded and another state has said Adios to marriage discrimination.

Today Pennsylvania became the 10th state where a federal judge has struck down a marriage ban since the historic US Supreme Court decision.  Welcome to the 21st Century Pennsylvania. Philadelphia, The City of Brotherly Love, just got a bit more lovely in my opinion.

Oregon says “I do” to marriage equality

Marriage equalityThese days it is almost a full time job keeping up with all the Marriage Equality wins.  Today Oregon became the 18th state (not counting Washington D.C.) to fully recognize marriage for same-sex couples.  The map of the USA now looks like a patchwork that must leave people from other countries scratching their head.  What I take away from this map (see below) is that full marriage equality in the US is not only an inevitability – but likely before the next Presidential election.

Judge Michael McShane, US District Court Judge, had this to say on today’s ruling. “Oregon recognizes a marriage of love with the same equal eye that it recognizes a marriage of convenience. It affords the same set of rights and privileges to Tristan and Isolde that it affords to a Hollywood celebrity waking up in Las Vegas with a blurry memory and a ringed finger. It does not, however, afford these very same rights to gay and lesbian couples who wish to marry within the confines of our geographic borders.”

10 years of marriage equality in Massachusetts

Marriage Equality in Massachusetts ten year anniversaryTen years ago today Massachusetts joined Belgium, The Netherlands and some provinces in Canada, recognizing the rights of gays and lesbians to marry their partner.

As you might expect, at the time most of America was outraged and conservatives used coded language to hide behind their homophobic opinions.  What a difference a decade has made.

10th anniversary for marriage equality in Massachusetts

marriage equalityTomorrow many couples here in Massachusetts will be celebrating their 10 Year anniversary because it was 10 years ago tomorrow, May 17th that Massachusetts recognized the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry. Happy anniversary tenth anniversary to you.
