Describe 2020 in one word or photo

Describe this past year in a word or photo by adding it as a comment to this post. I’d love to scroll through and see what people share. I’ve started things off by sharing this meme that I created.

I would also like to wish you a happy and healthy 2021.

Happy New Year

2020 is a year few will forget but many are eager to move beyond. I am re-posting this image from past years and suggest you choose wisely the color of your underwear.

If you’re in a sharing mood, leave the color you plan to wear tonight in the comments section. I’ll be in my blue and white striped boxers, wishing all of you (and me) a year of good health, happiness, peace and joy.

Vintage gay

No clue when or where this photo may have been taken but I’m guessing the 1950s. However, I thought I should conclude 2020 with a vintage gay photo of men celebrating and what better way to celebrate than dancing?

Be well and thank you for checking out this weekly post.

I want to wish you a happy and healthy 2021.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

This week on Instagram: paulodelvalle

This week I’m featuring the Instagram account of a very talented Brazilian travel photographer. This year is nearly over and even though travel restrictions will remain in place, I’m hopeful that it will become safer to travel again in 2021.

Paulo’s beautiful photos can’t replace the enjoyment I get from traveling but it certainly is wonderful to see his posts pop up on my feed. If you love (and miss) traveling, check out this Instagrammer who posts beautiful images regularly.

You can follow this week’s featured account on Instagram here, and you can check out previously featured IG accounts here.

Caption this photo

Hopefully the caption I’ve shared below inspires you to offer up one or two of your own. Leave a funny caption as a comment for this post, and I’ll approve it for readers to enjoy.

Boston Gay Men’s Chorus join Boston’s First Night celebrations online

BGMC

New Year’s Eve in Boston has always – meh – unless you are with a good group of friends in which case it really doesn’t matter where you celebrate and it will be great. Unfortunately, the pandemic has made such gatherings a bit more difficult and less likely. So for those stranded at home, counting down the minutes until you can say “good riddance” to 2020, the city of Boston will be hosting their own “First Night”. You can stream the performances here and the full calendar of performances here.

I can’t say that I’m familiar with most of the acts, but I did want to give Boston’s Gay Men’s Chorus a shout out. They will be performing, A Prayer for Peace at 7:54PM and again at 9:38PM. They will appear one more time to sing Relax! at 10:10PM.

Delusions of a wanna be dictator

I will watch this pot and bring it to a boil!
More and more lies should help start this roil.
Now a dash of sedition to make more turmoil.

“My kingdom for a horse” he shouts into the air,
I need to poke, provoke and create dispair.

Hate and anger I’ll throw into the pot!
Stir it, stir it – can you smell the rot?
Lies and half truths will season this lot.

Double double toil and trouble,
Fire burn and caldron bubble.

The votes of 80+ million were what was required!
Even still, all those politicians balked and conspired.
But hear me now, on January 20th, “You’re fired!”

I know rhyming patterns can make poems sound like nursery rhymes, but for someone who only dabbles in poetry, a rhyming pattern gives some structure to my poems. I’ve never been particularly artful in my writing so there is none of the subtlety usually associated with poetry, but in this instance, I’m okay with that.

Monday morning mancandy

May this post help distract you from the fact that it is a Monday morning.

BosGuy cooks: Pancakes

When I was younger and spent weekends at my grandparents house it was not uncommon for my grandmother to make pancakes for breakfast and my cousins who lived down the street would often join us for pancake eating contests.

My grandmother would thin out the recipe to make more pancakes for us by adding more milk to the batter and would often then sprinkle our pancakes with powdered sugar. Italian grandmothers put powdered sugar on everything sweet just to make it a little sweeter.

In the photo above, I’ve included chopped walnuts as well as sliced bananas in the batter then I added a few more banana slices atop the pancakes. When in season, blueberries and raspberries also work really well and add more flavor.

Making pancakes from scratch is really easy and tastes great. Just make sure you have real butter and maple syrup to add. You can also spread jam on these and roll them up if you want to eat them on the go.

Ingredients:

1 cup of flour
1 cup of milk
1-2 eggs
1/4 cup of sugar
4 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup of margarine / butter
fresh fruit like blueberries, bananas or strawberries (optional)

Preparation: Pre heat your griddle or pan to 375-400⁰ (basically what I’m saying is this needs to be very hot). Then mix your ingredients together in a large bowl. If you use a mixer be careful that you don’t cover yourself in flour when you start mixing the ingredients. The batter should have a thin, silky consistency; no lumps. If you prefer pancakes to be heavier add less milk.

Because the batter comes together so quickly, don’t start to make the pancakes until you know the griddle is hot and you’re ready to go. These will only cook for a few minutes.

Cooking: Ladle the pancake batter on the griddle and flip when you see air bubbles forming in the batter. Depending on how hot your griddle is this will only take a couple of minutes.

Cooking tips: This batter can double for waffles. And as mentioned above, add fruit to your batter if you like. I try to set some of the fruit aside to also sprinkle atop the pancake stacks. It’s both visually appealing and tastes great.
