On Wednesday night a group of us went to go see Well Strung perform at the Ptown Art House. This year’s show, Summer Lovin, didn’t disappoint. They played, Chelsea’s Mom, which you can watch below, but my favorite song was their rendition of Summer Lovin, which quickly becomes Ptown Lovin.

Today David Thorpe’s documentary opened in 14 new cities including Boston, Chicago, Portand, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle & Washington, DC; previously you could only see this film in Atlanta, Los Angeles, NYC and Philadelphia.

The documentary confronts Thorpe’s anxiety over sounding “gay” by talking to LGBT icons like Dan Savage and George Takei, and exploring the cultural history of the gay voice in film and television. In light of the xenophobic language vilely pedaled by Republican Presidential candidates, this poem recited by Ronak Patani is both timely and touching. Take a moment to listen to his silver tongued prose.
Democrats certainly are enjoying themselves, watching what I can only describe as the Donald Trump hour.
While most Republicans do not agree with Trump’s views on Immigration and Immigration Reform, the candidates running for President haven’t exactly worked to create a more welcoming party and have often stoked those same flames. This might be a classic example of reaping what you sow.
With the recent US Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality, many feel elated but the fact remains a lot of Americans remain sympathetic to Becky Wegner Rommel who appears in the video below and while her rant is probably the very definition of manic and easy to giggle at while watching – let’s remember this woman votes.
Becky’s bat-shit crazy rant should serve as a reminder that the 2016 Presidential election remains even more important to our community.
What has been won in the courts can be undone, and if Becky and those sympathetic to her get their way that is what will happen. That’s why I don’t find this video funny. I find it frightening.

Yesterday Stephen Colbert released a video mocking US Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Scalia who both dissented on the Marriage Equality ruling. Pity he didn’t take on homophobe Justice Clarence Thomas who’s absurd dissent invoked images of slavery.
“The corollary of that principle is that human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity) because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity because the government denies them those benefits. The government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it away.”
I’m a firm believer that humor is a great way to address touchy subjects. While I doubt this video will change any minds, it is hard to argue with this Australian’s take on America’s love of guns. Much thanks to my sister Susan for sharing; just note that there are a lot of F-bombs in his monologue.
No other town captures my imagination or makes me feel as at home as Provincetown. This video from CBS gives you a glimpse of some of what Ptown has to offer and its rich cultural heritage which all of us have benefited from.
Boston Pride is in full swing so Sergio and I will be out enjoying the company of friends. A couple years ago I pulled together a video of Boston Pride Week (at least the events I attended in 2013). Sunday, June 14 Back Bay Harry’s is hosting a Madonna Super Fan Brunch.
Two seatings are available at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM but are expected to book quickly so if you feel the need to “Express Yourself” or are simply looking to “Get into the Groove” before you head over to Boston Pride’s Back Bay block party, which is conveniently just two blocks away then make your reservations sooner rather than later.

I know this video is making the rounds on all the gay blogs but I can’t think of a better video to share on a Saturday evening. I’m sure I’ll be hearing this played quite a bit in Provincetown this summer.
