Halloween Season in Salem, MA

HalloweenFew cities or towns in the world embrace the Halloween holiday like Salem, MA. For those who have never visited this town in October, I would highly recommend it. When I was in my 20s a friend of mine had an apartment overlooking the Salem Common and I’d go to his annual Halloween party. They remain some of my favorite memories.Visiting Salem? Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser:  I have keys but no locks, space but no rooms. You can enter, but cannot go outside. What am I?

Fall film festivals in Boston worth checking out

Fat CatAre you a movie lover? If so, take note because there are several interesting movie festivals to look forward to this fall in Boston. According to boston.com nearly a dozen film festivals take place in Boston just this fall complete with premieres and guest speakers.

A few festivals taking place this fall that caught my attention include:

Boston Latino Film Festival   Sept. 25-29

Boston Women’s Film Festival   Sept. 26-29

Boston Asian American Film Festival   Oct. 24-27

Boston Jewish Film Festival   Nov 6-17

Support local festivals and independent film by attending screenings movies shown at one or more of these festivals which are hosting screenings here in Boston and Cambridge.

Vintage gay

Thanks to Buzzfeed, I can tell you that this photo was taken at the 1980 New York City Pride. Little did these men know that a virus called AIDS would ravage their community while most of America pretended not to notice (if they were polite) while the rest openly gloated calling it ‘god’s will’.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

I stumbled upon this account of these two guys who have been able to travel to some pretty amazing places. The quality of their photos are impressive. If you too enjoy traveling but don’t get the opportunity to get away as often as you might always like this account might be a nice one to start following. Perhaps some of their destinations may pique your interest or inspire you to save up and make time to get away.

Delta announces Boston newest hub

travel, handsome, hunkEarlier this summer Delta Airlines announced Boston would become the airline’s newest hub, putting Jet Blue – Logan Airport’s largest carrier – on notice. Delta plans to ramp up the number of non-stop flights out of the Boston airport and use it as a transatlantic gateway to Europe for flights leaving from the United States. Recently, Delta added nonstop flights to Portugal adding to a growing list of European destinations one can fly non-stop from Boston on Delta.

Currently JetBlue carries nearly double the number of passengers as Delta from Boston with the New York-based airline taking 28% share of Logan’s 39.3 million passengers, while Delta serves slightly less than half with a 17.3% share.

This is great news for travelers coming into and out of Logan Airport. Hopefully Delta’s commitment to the area will result in cheaper fares due to more competition and new non-stop destinations.  You can read more about the announcement made earlier this summer, here.
