Each Wednesday morning I post a photograph and ask readers to offer a funny caption. This week’s photo of super, hunky Australian actor Chris Hemsworth provides you with a lot of material so get creative with your captions.
Much thanks to Seduced by the New for sharing this comical photo.
Streeeeeeeeetch!
Ryan Landry and his Gold Dust Orphans have announced that this year’s holiday theater spectacular will be Murder on the Polar Express.
Stealing plot lines from every Agatha Christie mystery ever written, the musical features “The World’s Foremost Drag Detective” Shirley Holmes, (played by Ryan Landry) as she boards the world’s most elegant train along with her sidekick Dr. Jody Watley and ten other unsavory characters, all en route to the North Pole for a much needed Christmas vacation! Imagine their dismay when they realize there is a psycho killer onboard.
The Gold Dust Orphan’s holiday musical always sells out quickly so I’m giving the show a plug now that tickets are available to encourage you to make plans and reserve your tickets ahead of time. Murder on the Polar Express runs from Thursday, December 1 – Wednesday, December 21.
This past September I shared a post featuring a variety of LGBT sports teams and clubs you could join as a way to get out and meet people. Thanks to some helpful comments in that post and help from my friend Marc Davino, I’ve updated that post to include all 18 LGBT sports leagues / teams.
Some of these clubs / teams are seasonal so take that into account when you reach out to these groups and best of luck to you.

GURL – Gay Urban Running League
Liquid Assets New England Swimming (LANES)
OutRyders: New England’s Gay Ski & Snowboard Club
QuICK – Queer Inclusive Climbing Klub
Frontrunners: Boston Gay Running Club
Apologies if I have overlooked any area gay clubs or sports leagues. Feel free to add information for any such group in the comments section of my blog.
Boston Magazine’s 2017 Best of Boston Readers’ Poll is underway through the rest of the year and this month the magazine is asking their readers to rate the best Raw Bar and best place to get a cannoli in Boston.
With regards to raw bar I have my own personal opinion but the question about where one can get the best cannoli in town this blog answered with a resounding vote back in 2014 in my post, Mike’s Pastry vs. The Modern Pastry Shop.
The pastry shop that won the blind tasting (hands down) is shown in a recent photo I took of a visit there when I was in need of these delicious Italian pastries.

Gay Anglophiles may want to add this new hardcover to their reading list. I was sent a copy of A Very English Scandal by John Preston to review and while I’ve only just started I can tell you this is a page turner.
Preston’s novel is based on the true scandal that rocked all of the United Kingdom when Jeremy Thorpe a British politician who served as Member of Parliament was tried at the Old Bailey in May 1979 on charges of conspiracy and incitement to murder, based on his earlier relationship with Norman Scott, a former model. The book may be based on real life, but it reads like a thriller filled with hypocrisy, deceit and betrayal.
Published by Other Press the story unfolds in 323 pages and is available starting Monday, October 10th.
Get the first look at the 2017 Boston Firefighter Calendar and interact with the Boston Calendar guys at the “Turn Up the Heat” Calendar Launch Event at Royale on Thursday, November 17th. Tickets to this event are now on sale.
All ticket sales and proceeds of calendar purchases directly benefit the Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation. Supporting the foundation will help fund volunteer events with patients at the Shriner’s Children’s hospital and assistance to local families that fall victim to burn injuries.
I’ve been writing about the economic backlash that has resulted from North Carolina’s homophobic / transphobic legislation HB-2, because I want to make sure that people don’t forget that even if politicians make easy, short term gains by targeting the gay community the times have changed and hateful legislation like North Carolina’s HB-2 will come at a cost. I’m sure this comes as a surprise to rednecks like NC’s Governor Pat McCrory, but I find it long overdue and am thankful for the support from the business community.
Although it is difficult to come to an exact number to determine how much HB-2 has cost North Carolina, Unicorn Booty suggested the cost is approaching $400 million dollars. This further validates Trillium Asset Management CEO Matt Patsky who said earlier this week that North Carolina was headed for a “state-government-inflicted recession”. Go figure. Hate just doesn’t pay like it use to.
This is how UnicornBooty came to their stunning calculation.
And here is the worst news for Governor Pat McCrory and those who stand by HB-2, there is no reason to believe those losses will stop. The reality is the expectation is these losses will continue.
