I want to dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Word of the day: Bye Felicia

Donald TrumpI like to think of my blog as an important, educational site that can help you expand your vocabulary.  Today’s vocabulary word is actually a commonly used phrase that I’ve waited to use this week, during the Republican Nat’l Convention.

Bye Felicia
Type of speech: exclamation

Definition: When someone says something and you don’t want to hear another word come out of their mouth their name becomes “Felicia”, a random bitch that nobody likes or takes seriously. It is general practice to tell Felicia to go away

Example: Whenever the news shows me a photo of this angry orange man I can’t help myself but say “bye Felicia”.

Travel rewards credit card offers

W Hotel Vieques

In 2013 we stayed at the W Retreat and Spa on Vieques Island using Starwood points

Are you shopping around for a new loyalty rewards program? I may be in short order since Starwood Hotels has agreed to be purchased by Marriott and the latter’s rewards program is nowhere near as good as Starwood IMHO.

I switched to the Starwood American Express card after returning from Australia in December 2009. I had depleted all my rewards points with my American Express card and was eager to identify a hotel chain credit card that I could rack up points on everyday purchases since I don’t travel frequently enough to accrue any status. I settled on the Starwood American Express and it has worked well for my needs ever since then. However, with the future of their loyalty program in question, I have started to look around.

Recently I stumbled upon thepointsguy.com blog post, ranking the top 10 travel rewards credit card offers for July 2016. If you read the post, keep in mind the blogger may be receiving financial compensation for this post so that could be a factor in their ranking.  You can read the full blog post here.

Do you have a loyalty reward card you really like? Do tell. My interest is in credit cards that make it easier / more affordable to travel. Getting money back at the end of the year or credit at retail stores are not of much interest to me.

Aquitaine Boston reopens in South End

Aquitaine BostonLast week Aquitaine Boston reopened with a Bastille Day celebration that Sergio and I attended. After closing earlier this year to renovate the 20 year old restaurant, their opening was highly anticipated to say the least. The most notable changes to the restaurant include a private dining section in the space formerly occupied by the tiny wine bar and moving the redesigned 11-seat pewter bar to the left of the newly monogrammed floor entrance.

The restaurant is much lighter. The black and burgundy color scheme has been replaced by French oak paneling and brass antique lighting, but perhaps the most appreciated change by patrons will be the second bathroom. Aquitaine has proposed a 14-seat outdoor patio but that may not be a reality until next summer. The menu remains largely the same, with the exception that their lunch special, featuring many of their plates for $12.95 is not currently being offered.

Saturdays at M Street Beach: Kiki Beach Boston

Kiki Beach on M Street BostonEvery Saturday the M Street Beach has attracted scores of gay men. This past Saturday with temperatures in the 90s, Sergio and I headed down to M Street Beach to join the fun. By 12:30 we counted about a dozen groups ranging in size from couples to much larger groups of men slowly overtaking part of the beach.

Southie has no shortage of package stores you can either stop at on your way to the beach or walk to should you run out of any essentials and most guys were quite friendly sharing what they had with anyone around. All that is missing to make this easier to spot is a gay pride flag, but if you look around carefully and listen for the club music it will only take you a few minutes to spot this group, which usually set up near the bus stop about midway down M Street Beach.

Chardonnay Go

Pokemon, Pokemon GoIf you are 30 or younger, chances are you and all of your friends have downloaded the popular game, “Pokemon Go”. According to papers that are covering the craze, it now has more downloads than the popular dating site Tinder, has surpassed Twitter in daily active users on Android devices and ranks above Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram in the Google Play store.

As a 40-something, I have no fond memories of Pokemon nor am I much of a gamer so I’ve not felt the pull of the craze gripping the nation. That is until I heard about this brilliant spoof video of Pokemon Go called Chardonnay Go, created by (and apparently for) white suburban housewives.  Too funny.
