Wasik’s in Wellesley: Why shopping local is best

Wasiks Cheese Shop Carol WasikI’m a big fan of shopping local and supporting small businesses so I wanted to give a shout out to Wasik’s Cheese Shop in Wellesley, MA.  Last week Sergio stopped by this quaint family owned and operated business  in Wellesley Square to purchase cheese and meats.  The shop owner, Carol Wasik, noticed Sergio shopping and took time to answer his questions and help guide him with his purchases.  The cheeses and meats have all been consumed and they were delicious. If I lived in or closer to Wellesley I would be there regularly.

If you shop at Wasik’s, tell Carol that BosGuy loved the food.

So often I hear people complain about poor customer service, but that is never my experience when I shop at a local business like Wasik’s.  If you really value small businesses and appreciate quality service, consider supporting more stores like Wasik’s before you head off to your next mega, super, national chain. You might be surprised by how much you enjoy the shopping experience.

Wasik's Cheese Shop has been serving customers since 1964.

Head of the Charles is Oct. 17-18, 2015

RegattaThe 51st annual Head of the Charles Regatta will take place Saturday, October 17th and Sunday, October 18th. Just as Patriot’s Day (a.k.a. the running of the Boston Marathon) is synonymous with spring for Bostonians, the regatta reminds us that it is Autumn. The Head of The Charles is the largest regatta in the world, attracting more than 8,000 rowers and 300, 000+ enthusiasts and onlookers who cheer the athletes every stroke of their race. Head of Charles Regatta MapIf you’ve never been or if it has been a few years since you last found yourself at the Head of the Charles, I’d like to encourage you to come down to see what all the fuss is about and to lend your hand and voices to cheer on these athletes – some of whom have traveled from around the world to compete.

Things that make BosGuy go hmm…

ProblemsMy friends Ben and Brett are traipsing through South Africa. Earlier this week they saw this advertisement and emailed me to share on my blog.  I love how the same office for penis enlargement is also a resource for “all other problems.”

Take this job and shove it

Thought of the DayBelow is an abridged email from an employee after they quit their job. It is well written and very funny – enjoy.

**********         *********        *********

As many of you probably know, yesterday was officially my last day. But before I’m just another memory of coworkers gone-by, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what a great and distinct pleasure it has been to type “…my last day.”

Over the 57 months I’ve hoped and prayed and wished upon stars I might one day leave this company. And now, when this dream has finally become a reality, please know I could not have reached this goal without your unending lack of support. Words cannot express my gratitude for the words of gratitude you did not express.

I would especially like to thank my managers:  In an age where miscommunication is all too common, you consistently impressed and inspired me with the sheer magnitude of your misinformation. It takes a strong person to admit their mistakes—it takes a stronger person to attribute their mistakes to me.

You have taught me more than I could ever ask for and, in most cases, ever did ask for. I have been fortunate enough to work with some absolutely interchangeable supervisors on a wide variety of seemingly identical projects – an invaluable lesson in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium.

Your demands were high and your patience short, but I take great solace knowing my work was, as stated on my annual review, “exceeds expectations”—high praise indeed, until realizing how farcical those words are when a salary increase of less than 2% goes with them. Amazing how one can exceed all expectations at every turn and yet the distance between compensation ceiling and actual annual salary keeps growing wider and wider.

To the few people with whom I’ve interacted, here are my personalized notes of farewell:
To M: You’re the ONLY reason my sanity is still intact.
To N: You’re amazing. Thank you for sharing your positive vibes and energy, great attitude, and wonderful sense of humor with me.
To H: I’m sorry you set me up to fail. Maybe one day you’ll get it.
To A: Get over yourself. You’re not a nice person. Own it.
