Nothing gold can stay

body paint, bodypaint, handsome, musclesEach October I post this poem on my blog. It is by the famous 20th century New England poet, Robert Frost, and is entitled, Nothing gold can stay.

It is obvious that Frost was inspired by the fall foliage in New England when he wrote this poem back in 1923, but this year I decided to play on the the message of the poem with my image selection.

Nature’s first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Are you heading to New York City this fall? You may want to check out a new play that takes place in 1950 called, Perfect Arrangement. The production includes Broadway and TV actor, Christopher J. Hanke and was written by Topher Payne.

Initially produced in Atlanta last year, Payne has brought his show to New York City to share with a larger audience. The biting comedy revolves around two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, who have been tasked with identifying sexual deviants within their ranks. The twist is that both Bob and Norma are gay, and have married each other’s partners as a carefully constructed cover.  Perfect Arrangement is in previews but formally opens later this week, October 15th at The Duke on 42nd Street.

When asked if Payne thought the show would appeal to all audiences (not just the LGBT community) he responded in an interview in HuffingtonPost ,“Everybody knows what it is like to have a secret.”

You can find our more about this production by visiting the website, here.

Orthodox Calendar 2016: Sancta Paraphilia‬

Sancta Paraphilia‬The Orthodox Calendar which first ‘came out’ in 2012  continues to get more provocative with each passing year.  Don’t be mislead by their name. The project is the brainchild of a group composed mostly of Orthodox eastern Europeans who use these provocative images to take an ironic approach to the Orthodox Church and raise awareness of homophobia; especially in the Orthodox region.

Watch the NSFW promotional video on YouTube then learn more about the project by visiting their website where they also sell all sorts of provocative items including their 2016 Orthodox Calendar, www.orthodox-calendar.com.

Who makes the best croissants in Boston’s South End

This past weekend I arranged for a blind croissant tasting to identify which coffee shop in the South End serves the very best.  To help me, I enlisted three friends from France who now live here in the US to sample and critique croissants from five South End cafes.

Cafe Madeleine (above) wins in blind tasting for best croissant in South End

Croissants were judged on three criteria: size, texture and taste.  Each category was weighted differently with taste being the most important. While none of the selected cafes achieved a perfect score; Cafe Madeleine was the clear winner – consistently achieving the highest scores from everyone.

Flour in the South End finished with a respectable second place but the remaining three cafes; Wholy Grain, South End Buttery and Appleton Cafe scored very low, suggesting there is a lot of opportunity to improve.

Thank you to Sergio, David, Mark, Frederic and Olivier for all your help.
