Sand Blast Weekend in Atlantic City

gay NJ, LGBT NJI will admit that I have a soft spot for New Jersey guys. I’m not sure if it is the hair, accent or guido vibe so many of them have, but if you suffer from the same affliction you may want to take a road trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey for Sand Blast Weekend, July 18-20th.  I won’t be able to check out this event but two of my friends, Cole and Hunter – The Maverick Men, will be down there this year.  If you see them tell them BosGuy says, “Hello”.

Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle

BootcampInspired by a recent article in The Boston Globe, I started a week of “free fitness posts” yesterday and I asked Kyle to use his weekly post today to focus on one of the great FREE fitness programs in the city of Boston.  If you happened to miss the November Project morning work out this morning that I suggested in my post yesterday (you can read about it here) then maybe you’ll be tempted to try one of these free workouts in Boston’s Post Office Square tomorrow (Tuesday).

While a variety of classes are offered each weekday in Post Office Square, on Tuesdays, in the morning you can join Nicole for a Pilates class that starts at 7:15 AM sharp or if you are not a morning person, you can always join the free boot camp run by Erin that starts at 5:30 PM.

You can get more information about these and other classes in Boston’s Post Office Square this month by linking here.

Kyle at Realm FitnessKyle is a nationally certified personal trainer, certified nutritionist, and lifestyle motivator out of Los Angeles, CA. He has been training for 5 years and has experience working with top-tier celebrity and executive clientele. When he’s not in the gym, Kyle is reading philosophy or writing poetry.

Monday BluesReturning to work after the 4th of July holiday may make this Monday seem especially difficult.  I know it is for me.

Deck of Cards workout every Monday

Free work out, health, fitness, Boston fitness

Source: November Project

Inspired by a recent article in The Boston Globe, I wanted to write (again) about the many opportunities to work out for FREE in the city. Starting tomorrow, the ever so cool – November Project – hosts their Monday morning Deck of Cards Workout. The way it works is they flip through a deck of cards doing situps when they turn over a red card and pushups when it is a black card; the value of the card is how many you have to do.

The workout starts at 6:30 AM in Boston.  Details about the workout can be found on their website, here.

Vintage ‘Tube

Back in 2009 David Carroll posted this video after United Airlines broke his guitar. He used YouTube to sing about his frustrations when the airline chose to ignored him and in doing so schooled UAL on the lessons and power of social media. When the video hit more than 10M views, United realized they had a PR problem. Although I’m not a fan of Country Music – I love this video. Well done David.

Restaurant review: HK Cafe Restaurant and Lounge

HK Cafe Hells Kitchen NYCThe HK Cafe is located in the heart of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood on the corner of 9th Avenue and 39th Street.  The long, narrow layout  has modern decor with large windows that look out on to the street.  I sat at the 12-seat bar to the side of the main dining room floor.  The menu is reasonably priced with soups and salads ($8-$12); appetizers ($10-$16); sandwiches ($11-$14); and entrees ($16-$24).

Unfortunately, HK Cafe’s first impressions was as good as it got. After I placed my order a rowdy party of about eight in the dining room started screaming at the top of their lungs; acting as if some pop star had just walked in from the street.  This continued intermittently through the entire evening – some people seated in the dining room left because they were so disruptive so I assume this is what one should expect since the staff did nothing to settle the raucous table.

Hell's Kitchen HK Cafe Fig Salad

HK Cafe Fig Salad $12.00

The experience didn’t get much better after my competent and handsome bartender brought over my fig salad.  Some of the figs were a bit too dry / hard and the cheese promised in the description seemed more of an after thought since it was barely there.

HK Cafe Burger & Fries $12

For dinner I ordered the HK Burger and Fries.  While the portion was large this too was fairly bland. If I wasn’t developing a nervous twitch from all the shouting in the dining room or if the salad had been better I might not have felt the burger was quite so bad, but by the time it arrived all I wanted to do was leave so my impressions of the flavorless burger may be a bit harsh, but I won’t be going back to give it another try.

Well Strung returns to Ptown at The Art House

For all of you who have plans to visit Provincetown this summer, I always recommend taking in a show or two. In the summer, Ptown becomes like a gay little Las Vegas with more shows on any given night than many cities more than ten times its size.  A perennial favorite is Well Strung who are performing again at the Provincetown Art House through September 20th.

Happy 4th of July (sort of)

4th of july muscleHurricane Arthur is suppose to wreck havoc with New England this afternoon so celebrations in Boston were moved up by a day and held last night.  Cape Cod and many coastal towns here have opted to hold their 4th of July celebrations on Saturday.  So all those guys in Provincetown and Ogunquit are either hunkered down in their house or at a nearby bar.  Grindr and Scruff must be going cuckoo.

Happy birthday U.S.

Independence Day, 4th of JulyOh brother, if you’d like a good chuckle you should hop on Twitter. There seem to be a number of people who seem to think our country is 2,014 years old.  You may read more of these sort of Tweets here.

Just to be clear we earned our Independence in 1776.  That means out country is 238 years old – not more than 2,000.
