Ben Cohen 2014 calendar
Holiday shopping? Pick up your boyfriend Mr. Cohen’s 2014 calendar. Consider it an added bonus that you can do this from home and avoid lines and overly aggressive holiday shoppers who are out in force this weekend. Proceeds from the sales of Cohen’s calendar go to his Stand Up Foundation.

The Slutcracker: Holiday cheer for the twisted
Are you struggling to get into the holiday spirit? Looking for something a bit different to do? If you live in the Boston area, check out the Boston classic The Slutcracker, a burlesque, satirical version of The Nutcracker that opens tonight at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square and runs nearly every night through the month of December.
The production is the brainchild of Babes in Boinkland troupe director Vanessa White. While it is not quite what you will see if you attend the Boston Ballet’s Nutcracker, what it lacks in technique you will find it more than makes up for in laughs. It may be the best holiday entertainment for the money.
Tickets ($25) are currently on sale. More information about performances and how to purchase tickets can be found here.
Heads up – the video may not be appropriate to play at your office.
BosGuys holiday wish: boycott Salvation Army donation kettles
Even though I’m currently traveling in Brazil, I know that shopping malls and retail stores all over the US are a buzz with hordes of shoppers. Today marks the first day of the holiday shopping season and just outside your mall and retail stores is the Salvation Army – a seemingly kind organization that asks for your spare change to help with their charity work.
My annual reminder / request to boycott Salvation Army
I like to remind people that The Salvation Army is an Evangelical Christian group that is rabidly homophobic. I would ask you to consider boycotting their holiday donation kettles.
There is no shortage of very worthy charities more deserving of your spare change. If you feel the same as I do, you may even consider speaking to the mall / store manager to ask if they wouldn’t mind granting the space to a more accepting group.
The Boston Ballet Nutcracker
The Boston Ballet presents The Nutcracker 11/29 – 12/29
Tomorrow is opening night for the Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker. Tickets remain for shows to this year’s performance that will run through December 29th. Come out and support The Boston Ballet which is celebrating its 50th season. You just may be surprised by how much you really enjoy both this classic story and the athleticism and grace of The Boston Ballet.
Copa Cabana at dusk
One of Rio de Janeiro’s most famous beaches continues to charm. This evening we walked nearly the entire length of the 4 kilometer (2.5 miles) beach at dusk. Here is a photo I snapped. The image of the large rock formation is of Rio’s Sugar Loaf; James Bond fans will recognize this from the movie, For Your Eyes Only.

Alabama tanning salon’s Thanksgiving special: ‘Indian color’
Earlier this month Club Sun, an Alabama chain of tanning salons raised eyebrows when they promised patrons their tanning booths would provide them with “Indian color”. Apparently the advertisement was pulled shortly after it was posted on their Facebook page and the firm issued apologies for the ad featuring scantily-clad women wearing stilettos.
Club Sun’s Marketing director, David Arnett, ended up posting the following apology, “the ad I created… was in no way intended to be offensive or racist.“

Sonic Wall says BosGuy.com is pornographic (update)
Earlier this month a few of you mentioned that you were no longer able to access my blog from your work because DELL’s Sonic Wall had classified my blog as porn. I joked that my photos of shirtless men must have proven to be too much, but I was irked so I asked people to complain.
The logged complaints and Tweets that were sent to Sonic Wall did not fall on deaf ears and earlier this week I received this Tweet and a few of you shared your email responses from Sonic Wall all pretty much saying the same thing.

I wanted to say a special thanks to @MileHighJoe1 for initially bringing this to my attention and to everyone else who followed up with a complaint to DELL’s Sonic Wall.
Safe travels for your Thanksgiving holiday
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States. While I don’t know the exact numbers, airports, train and bus stations as well as the highways will be filled with people eager to return home and to visit friends for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Are you traveling to celebrate Thanksgiving? Give yourself some extra time, and I want to wish you safe travels. I’m in Brazil this week celebrating Thanksgiving in my own special way, but my thoughts are with my friends and family in the US. Have an extra helping of turkey for me.
