Today’s lesson in learning how to speak BosTongue is doctah.

a person who is skilled in the science of medicine : a person who is trained and licensed to treat sick and injured people
Used in a sentence: Doctah would you check to see if I have a hernia?
Tonight the Boston Ballet opens with La Bayadère to kick off their 50th season. Sadly I cannot make it opening night but I want to wish them much success.

The 29th Annual Boston Film Festival starts tomorrow and runs through the weekend, featuring films screening in Theatre 1 at The Revere Hotel.
Tickets for the festival’s screenings are available for purchase at the theater or via the Boston Film Festival website.
I know I’ve posted this before but it still gives me a chuckle. This kid’s expression is priceless and mimics my initial reaction. Way to go Dad.
Last week at this time the country was obsessed with the government shutdown. The shutdown happened because Tea Party members were intent on defunding the Affordable Care Act. The NY Times has an interesting interactive map explaining the various factions in the House.
The image above is a snapshot of the 42 members that the NYT refers to as Tea Party core members. They are mostly from the south and represent rural districts. I’ve encircled the Northeast because this part the country doesn’t have anyone from the Tea Party or their affiliates (the NYT indicates there are another 26 members). If you’re a political junkie, you’ll find this interactive map interesting. Check it out here.
Last week BuzzFeed had posted The 23 Most Boston Things To Ever Happen. It is rather bizarre but a few of the photos had me smiling. Like this image. I’m very excited about tonight’s game against St. Louis.

This week’s Temptation Tuesday has a denim theme.
Perhaps my favorite news story from last week happened to be a local story that went viral when it was published by Huffington Post. Last Tuesday while dining at an unnamed restaurant in Boston a man noticed that two women got very emotional after getting a call from their doctor with news of a diagnosis. The unnamed gentleman signaled to his waiter that he’d like to pay for his check and the ladies next to him without their knowing.
I never tire of these stories and wish that these nameless Samaritans were more often acknowledged. Want to read more about the story? HuffingtonPost has a nice article here.
At some point on Saturday my blog clocked more views in 2013 than I had accumulated in all of 2012. I’m not sure how precise the WordPress site stats are, but I do use them as a benchmark.
Site traffic to my blog has really grown significantly over the past two years, and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who stops by here on occasion. I appreciate it.
Hendriks is in Murray Hill on the corner of 3rd Ave and 37th Street in New York City. The restaurant opened earlier this summer and can seat 60+ patrons on the dining room floor and another 15+ at the bar. Large windows and white washed walls and ceilings provide an open and airy feeling to this comfy neighborhood restaurant that is open for brunch, lunch and dinner.
The menu is comprised of classic American fare sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. One-third of Hendriks’ dinner menu is dedicated to appetizers that range from $6-$12. The menu also includes salads, a few pastas and main plates which mostly range from $15 – $25. The waitstaff all seemed genuinely friendly and service was both prompt and helpful, answering my questions confidently and making suggestions. The beer and wine menu is just what one would expect from an upscale neighborhood restaurant in terms of price range and options.
I couldn’t decide which appetizer to order so I opted to try both (I told myself this is for research purposes). The Soppresatta for $6 was a steal. It was so delicious I’d come back for this as a snack regularly if I lived closer. I rolled up each slice of dried salami with the thinly sliced Parmesan cheese, drizzled with honey, and chewy, sweet figs. Combined it tasted like a slice of heaven and I greedily ate every last bite. The second option, Chick Pea Fritters – also $6 – proved to be satisfying, but I couldn’t stop obsessing over my first plate and really only ate the fritters because they accompanied my ale so nicely.
Whenever I go to a restaurant for the first time, I temper what I want with what I see on a menu. In this case, I really was craving pasta, but with just 3 plates on their menu and 10 plates focused on fish and meat, I thought it better to follow the menu’s lead. Because I’d already committed to a good Octoberfest brew, I opted for the Black Angus Burger ($16). The thick burger was served with the aged cheddar still melting on it. It also came with a heaping glob of smoked onion jam and had pickles and lettuce on the side. Lest I forget, the thinly cut french fries came out hot and salty and sprinkled with sage and Parmesan cheese. I wish I could share the smell emanating from my plate, because I’m fairly certain you’d immediately salivate. I know I did.
I’d certainly recommend Hendriks if you’re near Murray Hill in Manhattan. Let me know if you try Hendriks and tell me what you thought of your meal.

CONGRATULATIONS NEW JERSEY!
Despite the efforts of New Jersey’s Republican Governor, Chris Christie, to block same sex marriages, that state’s Supreme Court ruled against the administration. The ruling means that NJ can start recognizing and performing same sex marriages today.
I’d like to welcome New Jersey to the 21st Century and congratulate the efforts of Garden State Equality and others who worked to make this possible. New Jersey becomes the 14th state (plus Washington D.C.) to legalize same sex marriage. It also means that the entire Northeast region of the United States now recognize gay marriage.
