BosGuy brain teaser

Each Friday morning I post a riddle or brain teaser.  The idea is to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. Share with friends or coworkers if you cannot figure out the answer and together perhaps you can determine the answer.

Post your answers in the comments section, and I’ll confirm the correct responses after lunch to give everyone a fair chance.

This week’s brain teaser:

This a most unusual paragraph. How quickly can you find out what is so unusual about it? It looks so ordinary, you’d think nothing was wrong with it. Actually, nothing IS wrong with it. But it is not as ordinary as you might think. If you think about it for a bit, you will find out why it is truly so unusual. So what is it? What is so unordinary about this paragraph?

Like riddles? Check out past week’s brain teasers.

Kranzky’s Korner: weight loss

Last week we introduced you to Kransky’s Korner – a regular post to help encourage you to start getting into shape before the masses join the gym in January with their New Year’s resolutions.

With seven weeks until the end of the year it’s time to ask yourself what are your fitness goals? Is it fat loss? Is it building mass? Fitness regimens should be designed to help you attain your goals. Since most of you fall into one of these categories, this week we’ve focused on weight loss.

Fat Loss Regimen Work Out
3 – 4 sets with 15-20 reps.
Focus on 1-2 exercises per muscle group.
For each workout focus on a full body workout that includes chest, back, shoulders, core (abs), and legs.
Be sure to monitor your rest time allowing for 30 seconds to 1 minute between your sets.

For weight loss a higher number of reps is ideal because more time working, means more calorie burn. When you break down a muscle, your body burns calories to repair the muscle, that makes full body exercise (every muscle group worked in the same day) ideal. Working every muscle group in the same day will yield a higher caloric demand over the next 24-48 hours to repair the torn fibers. What does this mean? FAT LOSS! Keep your rest time short. Don’t worry, your body will be able to replenish quickly from higher rep ranges and it will keep your heart rate up. Over time, your endurance will improve – equating to greater weight loss.

About Kranzky’s Korner: Kris is a Master Trainer at the Boston Sports Club in Boston, MA and Kyle is a Top Tier Trainer at Equinox in Pasadena, CA. The brothers have teamed up together to start a Fitness Consulting Group called Realm Fitness to inspire and educate others to reach there full potential.

Brazil post: Rio 2016

If you are like me, you loved the London Olympic Games.  I am very excited to have these games finally find a host in South America.

In the summer of 2016 Rio de Janeiro will take up the torch that London passed to Brazil and this magnificent city will host the world to what I think will be one of the most memorable Olympic games in modern history. You can read more about the 2016 games here.

Gentleman’s Rant: Homosexuality

This is hilarious… To my gay viewers feel free to tune out after the first two minutes. To my heterosexual male readers (do I have any?) feel free to fast forward to just after two minutes.  Sorry to snub the ladies on this one. I’ll make it up to you later – promise.

Chicago Tribune: Equality Wins at the Polls

May 2012  Ralph Reed of the Faith and Freedom Coalition called Obama’s announcement supporting same-sex marriage an “unanticipated gift to the Romney campaign” that would drive religious Americans to the polls to vote against Obama.

November 2012 Four states in different regions of the country all reject ballot initiatives designed to prevent same sex couples from marrying.  In Maine, marriage equality wins for the first time by popular vote and President Obama goes on to win the election by nearly four million votes.

What a difference six months make, huh?  Echoing my thoughts from earlier this year, The Chicago Tribune on Monday wrote a well thought out editorial entitled, Equality Wins at the PollsThe editorial concludes what we’ve all known for a long, long time; marriage equality for the LGBT community is unstoppable.  Chew on that Ralph Reed.

Thanks to Joe My God for the tip about the Tribune’s editorial.

Tell Macy’s to dump Trump

More than 400,000 people aren’t enough to get Macy’s to dump Donald Trump as a business partner. However, it is nice to see public pressure mounting on the retailer in light of the racist and misogynistic rants from Donald Trump.  It seems to me the only thing Trump values more than the money he makes (courtesy of deals with organizations like Macy’s) is his ego.  It would be nice to hit him both in his wallet and ego so won’t you consider signing this petition?

Feel free to add your name to the online petition HERE.

Much thanks to Kenneth in the (212) blog for sharing this.

Brazil post: Rio de Janeiro

Each day this week I’m writing a “Brazil post” to raise awareness that I’m leaving on vacation for South America on Friday.  Although I will not be visiting Rio de Janeiro on this trip to Brazil, I think it is one of the most amazing places in the world and a place I would encourage travelers to consider visiting.  I stumbled upon this old video footage of the gay beach on Ipanema; definitely worth visiting.

Wonder Sauna Hot Pants

I stumbled upon this 1970s advertisement on Retronaut.com. Clearly we’ve been deluding ourselves for a very long time about how to live a healthier life and nothing takes the place of a sensible diet or exercise.  However, few ideas look as strange as “wonder sauna hot pants”.

Brazil post: Belo Horizonte

When we fly out of Boston later this week to Brazil we will fly to Brazil’s third largest city, Belo Horizonte.

I often refer to Belo Horizonte (B.H.) as the “Chicago” of Brazil.  Like Chicago, it is the country’s third largest city and is not on the coast.  This city of nearly 5 million is a one hour flight from both Sao Paulo and / or Rio de Janeiro.

Dick of the week: Ari Fleischer

Following the thumping the Republican Party took at the polls last Tuesday, there was a lot of hand wringing and agreement that the Republican Party must change their message to appeal to female and Latino voters. However, Ari was adamant about LGBT rights.

“Republican Party will never embrace LGBT rights”

When Fleischer was asked about how the Republican Party might create a more socially progressive wing he replied, “You’re not going to make the party pro-choice and pro-gay rights and think you’ve made the Republican party the party that’s the popular party. We have a party like that. It’s the Democratic Party.”

MovemberKenneth in the 212 posted this photo awhile ago and I loved it.  Now that we are a couple of weeks into “Movember”, I thought you might like to take a complimentary mustache. If you’re like me this is the closest you’ll ever get to growing a ‘stache.
