BosGuy brain teaser

Each Friday morning I post a riddle or brain teaser.  The idea is to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. Share this with friends or coworkers if you cannot figure out the answer.

Post your answers in the comments section and I’ll confirm the correct responses after lunch to give everyone a fair chance.

This week’s riddle:  A New York City hairdresser recently said that he would rather cut the hair of three Canadians than one New Yorker. Why would he say that?

Gangnam Style by PSY

Catchy or Annoying – What do you think?

Move over Carly Rae Jepsen, your catchy pop tune from the summer Call Me Maybe has been supplanted by an equally catchy, although unlikely pop song from Korea.  This unintelligible song by PSY has climbed to the top of the charts in the USA, and the rather odd dance moves from this video are inspiring many, funny spoofs.

Expatriate by Lenelle Moïse

Starting today and running through Saturday is the Theater Offensive Off-Broadway play by Lenelle Moise, Expatriate. Normally I try to only write about shows I’ve had the opportunity to see, but due to the short run, I won’t have a chance to see this show. However, I love the work the Theater Offensive does and wanted to give them a shout out.

Alby Matthewson, a Kiwi rugby player,  makes stretching look fun.  I just need a friend to help me since this appears to be a team activity.

“I do” support marriage equality

Blogger Frenchie & The Yankee  supports Marriage Equality

Last month I wrote about The Seattle Times “I do” social media campaign supporting the Marriage Equality referendum on their ballot in November. To show my support, each day this week I will post photos of people posing with The Seattle Times “I do” sign.

Will you speak out and show your support?

Five Horses Tavern trots into Columbus Cafe space

Earlier this week Eater Boston  reported that the owner of Five Horses Tavern in Somerville will open a second location in the South End in the space formerly occupied by Columbus Cafe.

The Five Horses Tavern in Davis Square serves modern American comfort food with nothing on the menu over $20.  This matches the affordable menu that helped Columbus Cafe remain so popular with locals and would be a welcome addition to a neighborhood already overcrowded with restaurants serving $30+ entrees.

I’m curious to see what owner and head chef Dylan Welsh does to the rather unique layout and interested to find out how he will purchase a liquor license since the owners of Columbus Cafe were rumored to have sold their license to the soon to open Boston Chops.

What your beer says about your politics

The National Journal published an article about what your beer choice says about your voting predilection.  I love these mindless charts.  According to the study, “Americans who most often drink Dos Equis are in the middle-of-the-road while drinkers of Heineken’s flagship brand are strongly Democratic. Samuel Adams drinkers are strongly Republican, and more likely to vote.”

Adelson Gallery opening in South End

Adelson Gallery at 520 Harrison Avenue opens in the South End this Friday.  The neighborhood’s newest gallery will focus on contemporary and modern art according to director, Adam Adelson.  The gallery opening coincides with  the monthly artist / gallery walk called  First Friday’s in the South End.

Friday night’s reception will include a cocktail reception for Andrew Stevovich: Games and Players, an exhibition of recent works by the artist which continues through November 17th. Future plans include exhibiting the work of Jacob Collins, Marcus Reichert, and Winfred Rembert.  Chalk up this South End resident as wicked happy to see this addition to the neighborhood.  Best of luck to Adelson Galleries.

South End development underway

A few weeks ago I mentioned on my blog the city of Boston had approved a new hotel and residences to be built just a few blocks from my home.  I am so happy to hear that space currently used as a parking lot near Interstate 93 will be redesigned and add space for residents and commercial purposes.

I have paired a photo from Google Maps with the image of the proposed development offered by the Boston Redevelopment Authority.  The $165  million dollar project will include 3-story parking garage, 19-story residential tower, and a 11-story hotel that has 325 “micro-rooms” (I have no idea what a micro room is but I don’t care since I live two blocks away and hopefully will never need to make use of the rooms).

This development happens to be next to the neighborhoods largest redevelopment plan that is currently underway called the Ink Block (shown above). The  project revitalizes 6 acres of land previously owned and occupied by the Boston Herald Newspaper.  The Ink Block plans propose multiple buildings of mixed use space with more than 470 rental residential units, retail space (including a 50,000 square foot Whole Foods) and 400+ below ground parking lot.

Wrestler or porn star

Last week BuzzFeed published a post entitled Wrestler or Porn Star, that I thought was absolutely hilarious.

Looking to kill some time and want a good chuckle?  Check out the post and see how you do. I’m sure you’ll guess correctly more often than I did.

My score 5 correct / 10 wrong  😦
