Fans make better music videos

music televisionI’m seriously dating myself, but I remember when MTV was new and launched careers of some of the biggest acts in the 1980s.  Fast forward to today and MTV is a shell of its former self. YouTube is the new MTV.

With all the big budgets, wardrobe, choreographers, directors and producers it amazes me how boring the official music videos are by comparison to the unofficial videos created by fans.

Recently I’ve posted different music videos from Harvard University’s Men’s Baseball team, the models of Randy Blue and the Broadway cast of Anything Goes.  Let me know if you find these entertaining or if you feel like its old news by the time I post these.

Men of Twitter

BosGuyEach Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following.  If so inclined, leave these guys a nice comment and start following them.

Men of TwitterAaronH89 – Aaron is a Boston native who is a second year law student so he’s got looks and brains (a potent combo). If he looks like a jock its because he played baseball until relatively recently when he injured his knee – dashing his dreams of a career in MLB. This handsome 20-something is as easy to chat with as he is on the eyes so start following and say hello to this shy Bostonian.

Men of TwitterHelloBlaine – Blaine is from Houston, Texas. This handsome techie is even more of a Twitter addict than me.  If you follow Blaine you’ll quickly learn that he loves men’s fashion and is interested in all things pertaining to health and fitness. Don’t be shy, Blaine is extremely friendly and easy to connect with on Twitter.

YouTube to launch cooking channel

Cooking videosWill you start watching your favorite food programs on your computer? Google thinks you will and that is why starting July 2nd The Food Network and Cooking Channel will have to keep an eye on YouTube’s newest original content channel, appropriately named, HUNGRY.

HUNGRY will include a combination of how-to and celebrity-chef food videos.  As a part-time cook with a penchant for buying fruits and veggies I’ve never seen before, I regularly check YouTube for food preparation tips.  Last spring after watching a video on how to prepare artichokes, I wrote my post Chef BosGuy.

I’m not quite sure how this started back in the 80s or why this ever became so popular, but I distinctly remember nearly every mall in the U.S. having one shop that took “Glamour Shots”.

At the time I remember thinking this was ridiculous and reviewing buzzfeed.com’s article 12 Ways To Get The Best Glamour Shot makes my belly ache from laughing.  If you need a good laugh, check out all the tips and accompanying photos by linking here.

Beer vending machine in Boston

Arnold Worldwide, a creative agency in Boston, created a unique beer vending machine in their headquarters appropriately named “Arnie”.   Check out the quick video below which explains all the bells and whistles. Back when I was working in an office environment, I would have loved to have had an Arnie in our office kitchen.

As usual, I’ll either post or confirm the answer in the comments section in the afternoon.

What always runs but never walks, often murmurs, never talks, has a bed but never sleeps, has a mouth but never eats?

Mitt Romney: Beautiful liar

BosGuyBack in the 90s when Mitt Romney was campaigning against Senator Kennedy, he portrayed himself as a moderate Republican who would be an advocate for LGBT issues.

Bay Windows Mitt Romney Interview 1994

Looking at Mitt Romney’s actions since 1994, I would have to draw the exact opposite conclusion so I thought I’d dedicate this song to Mitt.

Happy Anniversary

BosGuyFor all the men and women who filed into Town Halls across the state of Massachusetts 8 years ago to become one of the first in our nation to marry, I would like to wish you a very happy anniversary.  I’m not exactly sure what tradition suggest you buy someone that year, but I’d like to share my thanks and sincere gratitude.

Should you know anyone who was married then and is celebrating their anniversary, please let them know how much I and I’m sure many who read my blog appreciate their bold step. I recall the hate groups that descended into Massachusetts and the terrible things they said.  The only positive I take from those memories was how nearly everyone in this State (even those who at the time were opposed to Same Sex Marriage) disavowed their tactics and rose up to let them know they were not welcome in this state.

Do you know your rights?

LGBT EqualityI’d like to thank Cole from The Maverick Men for sharing this.  The colorful radial chart shares which states in the US protect the rights of the LGBT community with respect to marriage, hospital visitation rights, adoption, employment, housing, hate crimes and schools.

The more colorful – the more your rights are protected (or to put it another way – the more they are guaranteed not to be taken away). The radial is dialed in on my home state, MA, which I’d like to point out is quite colorful.  How does your state fare? You may look at this more closely at The Guardian.

8th Anniversary of Same Sex Marriage

On May 17, 2004 Massachusetts became the first state in the United States to legalize same sex marriage. Eight years ago today more than 1,000 gay and lesbian couples streamed into city and town halls across the state seeking licenses to marry.

Damn Proud of Massachusetts

In eight short years six other states CT, IA, NH, NY, VT, WA (and the District of Columbia) have all recognized this as a civil right and legalized same sex marriage.  More recently, President Obama spoke out in favor of Same Sex Marriage when he told ABC News last week that he (and Michelle Obama) support the right of gays and lesbians to marry.
