Suddenly it makes sense
I’m more of a tennis enthusiast, but after seeing a few photos of the very handsome Rocky Carson, one of the best racquetball players in the US, I’m starting to get a deeper appreciation for this odd sport.
Look past the funny eye wear and try not to chuckle too much at the irony of men in tight spaces whacking the crap out of their little blue balls and you too may gain a sudden appreciation.
Awkward Family Photos
Last week I stumbled upon this blog and its a new favorite. In need of a good laugh? Just want to kill a few minutes? Favorite this blog. It is filled with hilarious photos that are guaranteed to make you laugh.
Mayor Bloomberg speaks out against Amendment One
“At our nation’s founding, African-Americans were held in bondage. Those without property could not vote. Catholics could not hold office. Women could not vote or hold office. And homosexuality was, in some places, a crime punishable by death.
Throughout our history, each and every generation has expanded upon the freedoms won by their parents and grandparents. Each and every generation has removed some barrier to full participation in the American dream. That work is not over. Far from it… Last week’s referendum banning same-sex marriage shows just how much more work needs to be done to ensure freedom and equality for all people.”
Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, comments at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill commencement.
Broadway’s Anything Goes cast spoofs “What Makes You Beautiful”
The cast and crew of Broadway’s ANYTHING GOES did a great job hamming it up on screen (no surprise there). The real surprise is that the cast made the sickeningly sweet pop melody What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction bearable.

Rhode Island to recognize out-of-state Same Sex Marriages
Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee signed an executive order today that recognizes same sex marriages performed in other states. The Governor’s actions gives gay couples the same rights as heterosexual ones when it comes to health insurance and a slew of other benefits.
Rhode Island’s only two border states, Massachusetts and Connecticut already recognize same sex marriage and since the state is so small it is assumed that many Ocean State residents may cross the border to marry until the time comes that Rhode Island takes that final all important step of not just recognizing but performing same sex marriages. Chafee’s executive order now makes Maine the only state in New England not to either recognize or allow same sex marriages.
Things that make BosGuy go Hmm…
Mondays can be tough so I thought I’d give you a good chuckle. I’m fairly certain the person who approved this sign didn’t really think carefully about what was being said.

Restaurant review: 28 Degrees
So named because it is the ideal temperature to serve a martini, this restaurant has a sophisticated vibe that is immediately apparent upon entering. This restaurant which has had more than its share of rumors of pending sales and closings has been popular since it first opened in 2006.
Relaxing music with images of waves crashing and subdued lighting give way to very comfortable booths, a large bar and additional seating nooks that make you want to order a bottle of champagne tray of oysters. At least that is what I always have the urge to do.
On this visit for dinner, I opted for something more substantial. The dinner menu is divided into raw bar, pizzas, small plates, and large plates (of which there are only four). The good news is that the “small plates” are not all that small. Depicted below is the Burrata with arugula, mushrooms, truffle oil and toasts ($12) as well as the Crispy Calamari which also include pickled cherry peppers, arugula and lemon aoli on the side ($15).
It is hard to say which I enjoyed more since they could not have been more different. The burrata was cool and creamy. Conversely, the calamari was crispy and the pickled cherry peppers added a bit of heat. Ordering these starters was the dining equivalent of Yin and Yang… complete opposites but very satisfying because of their contrasts.
For dinner Sergio ordered the seared strip steak which came with potato, asparagus and roasted red radishes ($29). The meat was perfectly cooked and nicely presented. I’m not a huge fan of red meat, but I thought the dinner was as appealing to the eye as it was to the palate. 28 Degrees also has five different pizzas. I opted for the wild mushroom pizza with manchego, herb ricotta and arugula ($15). I love the combination of the sharp and creamy Spanish and Italian cheeses, which smother the liberal sampling of mushrooms.
28 Degrees is at 1 Appleton Street in Boston’s South End
Reservations for dinner are strongly recommended
Men of Twitter
Each Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following. This week there is a definite Boston theme. If so inclined, leave these guys a nice comment and start following. If you’d like to follow me on twitter, you can find me @BosGuy. Below are this week’s #MenOfTwitter.
JamesBruceWhite – A.K.A. James Whiteside, is a native of Connecticut but lucky for us here, he’s been dancing in Boston since 2002. He became a Principal Dancer with the Boston Ballet back in 2009 and happens to live in Boston’s South End (my hood). I’ve never seen James in person but its not for lack of looking around. Who knows perhaps our paths will cross, but til then one can still watch James perform and of course, follow him on Twitter.
RichardDustin – Dustin is the communications guru at a non-profit I once upon a time worked at, The AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts. Dustin is a Georgia native who found his way up here to Boston and is now fully focused on Tweeting about the upcoming AIDS Walk Boston. Have questions about how you can get involved or participate in this year’s AIDS walk? Follow this personable and handsome 20-something.
Happy Mother’s Day
Mom – Happy Mother’s Day. Love you more than I can express.
Also, Happy Mother’s Day to my sister, Elizabeth; Happy Mother’s Day to Terezinha (Sergio’s mother and a wonderful woman); as well as to all my lovely aunts, cousins and friends who constantly sacrifice and fret over being the best parent they know how.
Funny sign
I love this picture which I saw on Grub Street Boston’s blog. Love this…
