Sergio and I have visited Inhotim previously but it had been several years since our last visit, and I forgot how much I liked coming here. Here are a few more photos from our afternoon visiting Inhotim.

The Boston Book Festival (BBF) has shared its lineup of authors for this year’s festival which takes place Saturday, October 13th. Notable names scheduled to appear include John Kerry, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Anand Giridharadas, Michael Pollan and Justine Bateman (what do you suppose she’s been up to?).
The highlight for me would have to be the Saturday afternoon discussion between Kearns Goodwin and Kerry. Their conversation will take place just weeks before the midterm elections. Tickets to the discussion as well as to other 2018 BBF events will be available on the BBF website in early September.

Earlier this month The New York Times had an interesting article called “The Power of Positive People“, which suggested that our focus on physical health (e.g. diet and exercise) — while important — is only part of the equation for our well-being. The article said that researchers have found that happiness and other emotions spread between people in direct contact and can influence things like obesity, anxiety and overall happiness.
Are your friendships giving you a boost or bringing you down?
While I don’t find the hypothesis surprising, I think it is an important reminder of how important it is to have good friends. We’ve all faced adversity and felt down – it is part of life. Having friends who you can surround yourself with who will help you find the silver linings, be there to cheer you on or give you that added bit of courage really can make a difference. Do you know someone who is struggling at the moment? Give them a call and make plans to meet up. A fun evening together might be the best medicine.
The NYT article was in part based on the research published a few years ago, here: Detecting Emotional Contagion in Massive Social Networks.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Austin lives in Austin – hence the Instagram handle, austin_n_austin. Aside from that I can only tell you that I think Austin is handsome and knows how to take a picture. If I were to take a guess, I would say Austin is in his mid- to late-twenties. Most of his photos of late are with him in snug fitting Speedos near a pool like this image of Austin earlier this summer.
Follow him on Instagram here, instagram.com/austin_n_austin.
