Tonight is opening night for The Boston Ballet’s final program of the season. Mirrors is a diverse selection of thought-provoking works that reflect the many facets of contemporary ballet. Adding to the evening’s program, the Company performs two world premieres: Smoke and Mirrors, the first major work commissioned by the Company for the Opera House stage by former Boston Ballet Principal Dancer Yury Yanowsky, followed by Karole Armitage’s Bitches Brew, a psychedelic display of athleticism set to Miles Davis’ famous jazz track.
Mirrors will run May 6–28, 2016, at the Boston Opera House.
Friday, May 6 is SoWa First Friday, a monthly event that celebrates our community of artists and those who love art. The monthly celebration is free and open to the public and includes more than 20 galleries and 60 studios, that stay open from 5-9 PM with most of the participating galleries and artists located at 450 and 460 Harrison Avenue in the SoWa district of the South End.
If you’ve not been recently or if you are looking for something to do this Friday, come by after work to admire the local talent and to show your support for the local artists and galleries. There is something for everyone including fashion designers showcasing their latest garments, sculpture, abstract art and more.

I’m not sure how today became an excuse for excessive drinking, but if I could remake the holiday, I’d brand it as Cinqo de Gayo and use it as an excuse to have Eliad Cohen parade around shirtless in a sombrero.
I realize Eliad has no connection to Mexico, but I feel like that isn’t really an issue. Who do I petition to get this a nationally recognized holiday in the US?

Late yesterday the US Department of Justice (DOJ) warned North Carolina that significant aspects of the anti-LGBT legislation, officially known as House Bill 2 (HB2) violate federal civil rights law. Non-compliance with federal law could lead to North Carolina losing hundreds of millions of dollars of federal funding.
This follows the 4th Circuit’s decision that denying restroom access to trans students is sex discrimination under Title IX of the Civil Rights Act.

It has been three months since The Bear-Naked Chef (a.k.a. Adrian De Berardinis) last cooked for us. A few weeks ago Adrian shared a teaser video of him in Madrid, Spain, promising to return soon with new recipes and yesterday he did just that. Adrian’s first recipe, “Albóndigas En Salsa Española” perhaps better known to my readers as, Meatballs in Spanish Sauce, looks delicious.
While the recipe does call for a number of ingredients, it does appear to come together fairly easily and looks like something I could easily whip up (although I’ll probably forgo the Spanish saffron) and add extra parsley.
Look delicious? Want to try the recipe? You can access this and previous recipes from Adrian’s website.
