15 Years ago Massachusetts made history (again)
15 Years ago today Massachusetts became the first state in the United States to legalize same sex marriage. Conservatives said Mass. was making a mockery of marriage, yet this state still has one of the lowest divorce rates in the country.
To all those who helped bring about this change here in Massachusetts and elsewhere, congratulations. When Massachusetts legalized same sex marriage they set in motion and made possible the landmark Supreme Court case, Obergefell v Hodges. Make no mistake, same sex marriage would eventually have become legal even if , but I’m particularly proud of the role my home state played in forcing the issue. Below I’ve included an excerpt from that historic ruling, majority opinion that was written by State Supreme Court Justice, Margaret Marshall, which took place the year before. It still moves me today to read it.
Congratulations to all those couples celebrating their 15th anniversary.

The Ballsy “sack pack” is Incrediball!
This week, I received some men’s care products from Ballsy, which markets themselves as a somewhat irreverent men’s personal care brand that creates high quality products for men who “like to live balls out”. Their website which features several products dedicated to keeping men’s bits clean and fresh has inspired some very creative testimonials like this poem from Mark.
“Oh Ballwash, oh Ballwash, This much it true. My sack is now silkier, My nuts nicer too. You clean my bum with you charcoal black, And funk on my junk I now do lack. My wiener is cleaner, It smells so nice, I want to keep washing, once, twice, thrice. So thank you dear Ballwash, For all that you do. I’m even sexier now… And I owe it all to you.”
I love the marketing and the products definitely leave one feeling ‘fresh’. Their motto is “keep the funk off your junk”. Even if you don’t think the products are for you, I’d suggest checking out their website which is really pretty entertaining. You might be surprised (I was) by how many products they have available.
Ballsy can be found online at where else but, ballwash.com.
Vintage gay
This week’s vintage gay photograph is of Louis Halsey and John Spofford who were married in New York City in November of 2011 after having been together for 64 years. They look quite dapper in the more current photo and both were very good looking in their photo from more than five decades earlier.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. This week on Instagram: 420oldfatlesbians
Let me tell you, when I started writing my blog I never thought I would have a post about old, fat lesbians but I’m so happy to be able to share this with you. These ladies have more than 75,000 followers at this point and it is because I think they are one of the funnier accounts to follow. Most of the posts are short videos, which only makes the updates you get in your feed more funny (be sure to check out their hashtags too – they are a riot).
You can see the full video of this particular post included below unless WordPress is acting up again in which case check out the link to their IG account below and feel free to select whichever clip you see.

MAAM: New contemporary art museum will open next year in Boston
A new contemporary art museum will open in Boston in February 2020 on the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) campus. Located on Huntington Avenue, it will be near the Museum of Fine Arts and Gardner. The MassArt Art Museum or MAAM as it will be referred to, will encompass more than 15,000 square feet and be free to the public. MAAM will also have outdoor space in the Arne and Milly Glimcher Plaza for programming beyond the walls of the museum. Below are renderings of two of the new museum’s galleries.
You can follow the progress of what will be Boston’s newest museum by following them on Instagram at @MAAMBoston.

Happy Mother’s Day
I wanted to take a moment to say Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom, my two sisters Elizabeth and Susan, my sister-in-law Ashley, my mother-in-law, Terezinha and all the other wonderful women who have taken on the toughest job I can think of, motherhood. It doesn’t seem right that you only get one day out of the year to be recognized for all you do for your children.
If you live away from home, today might be a good day to call your Mom and let her know how much you love her.
