Furry Friday

hairy black manLast week I was talking about how difficult it is to find photographs of handsome black men with hairy chests. Hearing my passive-aggressive pleas for help, Eric forward me this image. Although this guy isn’t as hairy as past posts, he is most definitely worthy. What do you think?

BosGuy brain teaser

Each Friday I pose a riddle or what I like to think of as a “brain teaser” for those who like that sort of thing. I freely admit, I’m often stumped, but perhaps you’ll figure out this week’s riddle. I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon to give everyone a chance.

This week’s brain teaser:  There is a barrel with no lid and some beer in it. “This barrel is more than half full,” said Chuck. “No it’s not,” say Joe. “It’s less than half full.” Without any measuring implements and without removing any beer from the barrel, how can they easily determine who is correct?

Things that make BosGuy go hmm…

logo-failLast week I shared a logo dating back to 1973 for the Catholic Church’s Archdiocesan Youth Commission that would never fly today for reasons so obvious and not worth going into.   On a more comical note, I thought I’d share a similar logo-failure.  Which do you notice first the restaurant or the unintended imagery?

Stick a fork in me… I’m done

I’m wrapping up work early today.

Suddenly it makes sense

Keeping with the aquatic theme from last week’s suddenly it makes sense post, I thought I’d share this very cool photo from the London Olympic games. Why isn’t synchronized diving on every weekend? I can watch this all day long.  Did you watch synchronized diving this year?

What Olympic sporting event(s) do you enjoy watching?

Coolest administration ever

I cannot stop watching U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, dancing at a dinner party hosted earlier this week by South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane in Johannesburg.

Couple that with the fact that back in January we learned President Obama can carry a tune when he sang a couple lines from Al Green’s R&B hit Let’s Stay Together and you come up with what I think may be the coolest administration ever.

Between Hillary’s moves and Obama’s singing chops, I’d love to hang with them one Saturday night.

Funniest faces from London Olympics

shot-put faces buzzfeed

BuzzFeed has been sharing humorous photos of athletes while they have been focusing on their events and performances.  However it was their collection of shot-put photographs from earlier this week that had me smiling and chuckling out loud.

American, Kurt Roberts, is shown above, but if you’d like to see the full list of photos link to the BuzzFeed Article here

Label whore

Last week’s post of the Louis Vuitton waffle maker reminded me of this equally if not even more absurd creation, the Vuitton condom.

FYI – Neither the waffle maker nor the condoms are actual products.

Trattoria Cinquecento opening just weeks away

The Aquitaine Group made news in the fall of 2011 when they announced they would remodel the restaurant space previously occupied by Rocca in the South End and reopen it as the first Italian restaurant property the group owns and manages.

Cinquecento has garnered much attention and as recently as last week, positions for restaurant managers and a bar chef were seen posted online.  The 300+ seat Italian-concept restaurant has been eagerly awaited and although a definite opening has yet to be confirmed,  Trattoria Cinquecento will definitely open before the end of next month. Look for a soft opening the middle of September 2012.

Revisiting Sky Mall

Delta Sky MallReaders may recall some of my previous Sky Mall inspired posts like April’s Delta Airlines Sky Mall, January’s Strolling down the Delta Sky Mall aisle and last year’s What not to buy.  The Sky Mall catalog is a bizarre shopping catalog of randomly selected items that often appear to me as rejects from the Home Shopping Television Network.  While sitting on the tarmac waiting to take off I have found browsing this catalog to be an excellent distraction.

The Summer 2012 catalog did not disappoint with a series of odd items that left me wondering “who buys this stuff?”  By the way, if you are wondering the life sized Bigfoot statue which is just perfect for your garden is only a paltry $2,250.

Restaurant Week Boston starts August 19th

restaurant-week-bostonRestaurant Week Boston is set to begin later this month, but to ensure you will be able to dine at a restaurant of your choosing it is wise to make reservations now.  Many of the city’s premiere dining establishments will fill to capacity far in advance of Restaurant Week. The South End, has nearly 20 participating restaurants, you may see a complete list of places to dine in Boston, here.

If this is your first time making reservations during Restaurant Week, consider the following tips or guidelines to maximize your dining experience.

– Not all participating establishments are worth visiting. Restaurants serve 3 courses from a Prix Fixe menu for $33.12.  If most of the restaurant’s main plates are less than $20.00 you are not likely saving much money. Look for restaurants with a higher price point.

– Restaurant Week is designed to bring crowds into restaurants during a time that is normally quiet.  To avoid the crush and not compromise on the service, make reservations for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

– Select a restaurant you have never had a chance to visit. Use the opportunity to explore new places.  You may be pleasantly surprised and discover a new favorite.
