Lawn on D is now open

Boston public park, Southie Park

Lawn on D opened Monday, May 1, 2017

One of Boston’s coolest parks, Lawn on D, opened this Monday, May 1, 2017 and as with each year it seems like the park offers something new to attract people to this patch of green surrounded by concrete.

Probably the biggest change (for the better) is that the Lawn on D now has a liquor license through their full-service bar, starting today, Thursday, May 4th. No surprise that the addition of alcohol has also led to an upgrade and changes with food options so check it out this weekend.

Lawn on D

Large Chess Set at Hotel Brava in Buzios, Brazil

Look for new games to play like giant chess – perhaps like the set Sergio and I played when we were in Buzios, Brazil.  Additionally Lawn on D will also have lawn checkers and a HUGE version of Connect Four.

GoFundMe for Pulse Orlando survivors to spend Pride in Boston

Boston PrideOn June 12, 2016, a terrorist traveled to Orlando and targeted members of our community.  The result was the worst mass shooting in US history; 49 murdered in cold blood and 53 others horribly wounded, fearing for their lives.

Boston based LGBT advocates and organizations want to open our arms, envelop these amazing individuals, and honor the brave survivors throughout the weekend of Boston Pride, June 9-12, 2017 but to do so they need your help so a GoFundMe page has been set up, seeking donations.

Bucket list of things to do in Boston

christian science plazaFriend and regular reader, Dan K., forward me an article from 2016 entitled, The Boston Bucket List: 33 Things to do before you die, which I had fun reading. Although I think the list should say, 29 Things to do before you die since #4, #25 #26 and #29 do not take place in Boston.

I thought the list was really well done and of the 33 items, I can say that I’ve done 20 of them.  Two of the suggestions, #15: Run the Boston Marathon and #28: Row The Head of the Charles Regatta ain’t ever going to happen, but I think I  should get partial credit for attending and cheering on runners / rowers.

How many of the 33 Things can you say you’ve done and more interestingly, what was left off their list that you would add? I came up with the following:

Attend the annual 4th of July celebration at the Hatch Shell
Attend Shakespeare on the Common
Go to the top of the Boston Custom House Tower
Go to the Beanpot Hockey tournament
Bike / run / walk the Emerald Necklace

Mayor Marty Walsh video: City Hall sanctuary

I’m unsure how I missed this humorous video about a subject that isn’t very funny at all – immigration reform. The Mayor of Boston, Marty Walsh, released this excellent video back in January after Trump was sworn into office. I think it is the perfect response and support the message 100%.

For those of you who have only heard a Boston accent in an Affleck film, here is proof that people really do talk like that.

The Real Housewives of South Boston – St. Paddy’s Day

Although this video is now a few years old and the “new” Southie no longer resembles the stereotypes played perfectly by this cast of locals, it still gives me a good laugh. For those Bostonians who may have moved away and might watch this I’m sure it will give you a good laugh too. Have a great St. Patrick’s Day.

Pornhub asks Boston, “Wanna get plowed?”

In a stroke of creative marketing genius, Pornhub, an adult entertainment website, is making news after they pledged to assist anyone who “wants to get plowed,” here in Boston in response to today’s winter blizzard.

Pornhub has a small a fleet of branded trucks that are driving around helping to clear Boston’s streets and parking lots for free. Requests for a plowing are being accepted via email at phubplows@gmail.com.

Note:They are not offering to plow driveways.

Mass DOT’s Infra-Space program: South End

Infra-Space Program Boston, South End

Via: landing-studio.com

Lot 5 is space under the I-93 Expressway near the Ink Block that you’ve probably never paid much attention to before, but the city is making excellent use of this space converting it into (much needed) parking facility. This parking lot will link to two other 24-hour parking facilities that combined has 432 parking spaces.

These monitored parking facilities are helping link South Boston and the South End. However, what you may not realize is they are part of a bigger plan that Mass DOT refers to as The Infra-Space program, which was conceived to help reclaim previously unused space under the I-93 interstate highway and The Mass Pike to link it to Boston’s Harbor Walk; thereby connecting and extending walking, bike and running paths in the South End and Southie through Fort Point Channel and ultimately to the Seaport neighborhood.

Via: landing-studio.com

The Infra-Space program is a statewide initiative with Mass DOT to re-evaluate spaces under viaducts for better urban and ecological performance. Infra-Space 1 is the pilot project, spanning nearly a half-mile in length through the middle of downtown Boston.

The project includes a storm water management landscape that diverts the runoff from the viaduct, improved maintenance access, public recreation, and a series of scaffold structures that support operable lighting and art installations.

Via: landing-studio.com

You can check out more of the concepts proposed for this space by visiting, landing-studio.com/#/infra-space-1.
