Dow flirts with 13,000 and I could give a…
Yesterday news anchors were proudly cheering that the Dow briefly crossed 13,000 for the first time since the start of the recession in 2008. I’m sure this is great news for the economy, but this has no relevance to me. My investments show very little to be happy about and while I recognize that over time I will (hopefully) earn back all those losses it is still hard to manufacture the same enthusiasm as the broadcasters.
Dow reaching 13,000 = The wealthy getting wealthier
I recognize that this post may seem like whining to those who truly are in economic distress (and trust me I have a lot to be thankful for), but I suppose all those ridiculous smiles on television last night really got under my skin. It’s tough to get excited about the fact that Mitt Romney probably made a cool million yesterday while I was personally congratulating myself on spending only $10 all day.
Boston’s bike sharing program “The Hubway” returns
The Hubway, Boston’s bike sharing program, which rolled into town in 2011 was expected to be successful, but all expectations were shattered when thousands joined. Analysts quickly revised their statistics saying within the first 3 months, the system could see 100,000+ station-to-station trips making it one of the most successful bike sharing programs in the country.
The overwhelming demand coupled with a warmer than expected winter (most importantly without snow) has the Hubway hinting many stations will be in service by March 1, 2012.
If you would like to find out more about Boston’s bike sharing program or if you would like to join the Hubway, visit their website at thehubway.com. You can also follow them on twitter at: @hubway.
All about Men
This should explain everything. Thanks to Ministry of Pleasure for sharing the image.
Anne Hathaway on gay rights
I couldn’t have said it better myself Anne. Thanks for being a decent human being. Now if we can just get a few more decent people together to end all this indecency.

Boston forecast brings smiles to Bostonians
The 2012 winter in Boston may go down as one of the most mild on record. Hardly a week has gone by without temperatures in December, January and February at some point flirting with the 50s. It is chilly in Boston today but the forecast for the next few days is making me smile.
As we move near the end of the month, many Bostonians are starting to believe they just might enjoy that most fleeting of our four seasons – spring. Could we see tulips poking through the Public Garden this time next month? #FingahsCrossed
Carnival – Rio de Janeiro
Each year Rio de Janeiro hosts the world’s largest party when they host Carnival. Today is Fat Tuesday – the last day of Carnival. With all due respect to New Orleans’, Mardi Gras, it is unfair to even compare the two celebrations. Its like comparing professional baseball players to your local town league. Rio’s celebration runs around the clock for four days, is broadcast worldwide and draws viewers from every continent. Sorry New Orleans – when you can measure your viewers in the hundreds of millions (let alone billions) then we can talk. Enjoy these photos from this year’s celebration.
Spandy Andy is sexy and he knows it
Here is something that is certain to make you laugh in spite of the fact that it is Monday. Check out “Spandy Andy” as he shows off at St. Kilda Beach in Melbourne Australia. He’s got the moves and the personality to match.
Men of Twitter
Each Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following. As always, suggestions for profiles to feature are welcome. If you’d like to follow me on twitter, you can find me @BosGuy. Below are this week’s #MenOfTwitter.
If so inclined, leave these guys a nice comment and start following on Twitter.
JustinUtley – Justin is a Utah native who was raised as a Mormon and is out & proud. I first noticed Justin earlier this year after a few bloggers I follow gave him props, DanNation, Nice to See StevieB and BoyCulture (to name a few). After that I was intrigued and wanted to feature him. His life story is too interesting to do it much justice in my profile write up but I’d encourage you to follow Justin on Twitter and check him out online by visiting his website justinutley.com.
awilce – Alun (the Welsh spelling of Alan) currently lives in Cardiff, Wales. He recently returned from a year in New Zealand where his family emigrated and is currently making plans to move to London where he hopes to be an Air Traffic Controller. When this Twitter-fan isn’t Tweeting you might be able to catch him volunteering to teach disabled children how to horse ride. Sweet right? Oh yeah, one more bit of info about this handsome Welshman – his birthday next week (2/27) so wish him happy birthday.
Put on your dancing shoes: its FOXY night
Nathanael Bluhm, Boston-area DJ and host of FOXY night will be spinning his magic on Sunday night at Middlesex Lounge in Central Square.
With Monday a holiday for all the universities and many businesses here closed to observe President’s Day there is no excuse for heading out to enjoy great music and videos from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today.

Tweet of the Day: In case of fire
@BostonMuscle tweeted the image below on Friday evening, and I thought it was hilarious.
Considering we live in an age where we have to tell people texting while driving is a bad idea this obvious sign all of sudden seems like a good idea.
Mitt Romney brags about discriminating
Would Romney supporters think as highly of this man if his quote below was addressing interracial marriage? After all, this is our generations version of that same issue. How satisfying it must be to support a man who proudly proclaims his discriminatory beliefs and is cheered along the way.
“When I am president, I will defend the Defense of Marriage Act. And I will fight for an amendment to our constitution that defines marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman”
– Mitt Romney, Republican Primary Presidential Candidate speaking to Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) on February 10, 2012
Restaurant review: Tory Row
Across the Charles River in the heart of Harvard Square is Tory Row. The restaurant which opened in 2009 is the brain child of Matthew Curtis and Christopher Lutes. These are the men behind other popular establishments like Miracle of Science, Cambridge 1, Middlesex Lounge, and Audubon Circle.
Diners can have a front row seat to all the people watching one could hope for in bustling Harvard Square. In good weather, the large window pane slides open, creating a fantastic opportunity to dine al fresco. Aside from the sleek interior design, the brunch, lunch and dinner menus are creative and very approachable.
I’m partial to Tory Row’s brunch and lunch menu which includes temptations like Steak & Egg Tacos with hash browns for $9 or their english muffin breakfast sandwich for $7. The dinner menu has a slightly higher price point ranging from $11 for salads and flat breads to $10-$19 for sandwiches and main plates. If you want to get your drink on, note that Tory Row only serves beer and wine.
I could talk about several items on their menu, but today is all about their best selling sandwich, the grilled marinated chicken breast for $11. The bread which comes from the Nashoba Brook Bakery is soft and absorbs the flavors of the grilled chicken which is always cooked perfectly. The plate is nicely paired with roasted potatoes and salad, making for a filling meal that is relatively healthy and very satisfying.
Note that this popular eatery which has a location second to none in the square does not take reservations – first come; first served. Want to find out more about Tory Row? Check out their website, ToryRow.us.
More photos of the restaurant are available on their website. I’ve used their pictures which are superior to mine to show off the restaurant, but the picture of the meal above was taken from your’s truly with a shaky hand and an old camera sorely in need of replacing.

Shakespeare on the Common this summer
The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company will perform Coriolanus for their 17th season of free Shakespeare plays on the Boston Common. Shows will run from July 25 – August 12, 2012 with performances Tuesday – Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm. Shows will run 2 hours and 45 minutes so plan to smuggle in an extra bottle of wine.
Not familiar with Coriolanus? Neither am I. According to The Commonwealth Shakespeare Co. website, “the play charts the rise and fall of a powerful general as he battles enemies abroad, and a tide of popularity at home in Rome. While the war hero triumphs in the field, it’s his struggle with politics, responsibility and government that threatens to undo him.” Seems appropriate considering this is an election year in the US.
