I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. This week on Instagram I’m featuring Detroit native and pharmacist / model / underwear designer, Todd Sanfield. I included a photograph of him from the account I featured last week and had so many people commenting to me that I thought I should follow up by featuring his account. Although most of his posts are of other models wearing his self-named underwear line (not that I suspect many of you will mind).

Have you heard? One of the most talked about exhibits in the U.S. opened at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston last month. The show, “Botticelli and the Search for the Divine,” opened in April and showcases valuable works from the Italian Renaissance master’s catalog, including a life-size “Venus” painting being displayed in America for the first time.

The exhibition at the MFA features 24 paintings on loan from Italian museums, including the famous Uffizi Gallery in Florence as well as a painting from the MFA’s permanent collection, and two on loan from the Harvard and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museums. The exhibit runs through July 9, 2017.
The current issue of OUT Magazine has a great article “Pride on the Screen” which looks back at queer cinema. One of the movies featured – a movie that was definitely ahead of its time – is the Oscar winning, The Crying Game.
For many Millennials this may not be a movie they are familiar with since it was released 25 years ago in 1992. It may seem somewhat dated now, after all the idea of terrorism rarely brings to mind Ireland and England, Catholic and Protestant, but 25 years ago the conflict was still very much a reality and more often than not what came to mind when one talked of bombings and terrorism.
Heads up everyone! Sunday, June 4th is AIDS Action’s annual AIDS Walk & Run. Every year since 1986, our community has gathered on the first Sunday in June for this grassroots event to raise money and awareness. This event plays a crucial part in enabling AIDS Action to fulfill their mission and help maintain the health of individuals living with the disease, while working to prevent the spread of the epidemic. AIDS Action’s work is all the more important when you consider the lack of interest / support in Washington, D.C.

By raising funds and awareness in Boston you help make a difference in the lives of those living with and at risk of HIV/AIDS. Can’t attend this year’s Walk / Run? Consider making a donation here, aac.org.
