Allston Christmas, September 1st

Over the years locals have come to refer to September 1 as “Allston Christmas”; sarcastically referring to all the discarded junk renters leave curbside.

I have heard estimates that 80% of all apartments in Boston have a September 1 – August 31 lease; driven by the nearly 250,000 students who return to Boston each year.  Neighborhoods like Allston-Brighton have a large number of rentals and are impacted disproportionately – hence the term Allston Christmas.

James Cerne in HARD DECISIONS

Hard DecisionsLocal boy, James Cerne, who moved to Los Angeles but you may know from his DJ’ing days here in Boston or his role in Ryan Landry’s Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Oberon back in the fall of 2011 is now part of a gay-themed, choose-your-own-adventure movie coming to YouTube called HARD DECISIONS.

HARD DECISIONS follows Brandon and his friends as they decide what to do with their afternoon. Each decision will lead the viewer to another segment to continue the story. The viewer can then go back and see what might have happened if Brandon made decisions differently.  Too bad life didn’t work that way.

The underwear expert asks: Boxers or Briefs

The underwear expert asks people on the streets of Beverly Hills what is their preference, boxers or briefs?

If you feel inclined feel free to share in my blog’s comments. For the record I’m a boxers guy at night but by day I prefer boxer briefs.

Straight guys react to Andrew Christian underwear

Last week David over at WGB posted this video and I thought it was hilarious; perhaps you will too.  Despite Andrew Christian’s reputation this video is 100% safe for work. I bet female colleagues will get a good laugh listening to these guys talk about “male lingerie”.

Off to Ptown for Carnival

Ptown, Candy LandSergio and I are off to Provincetown to enjoy Carnival Week celebrations with friends. This year’s theme is Candyland.  I’m looking forward to all the costumes and parties and will work with Sergio to pull together a video to share with you after we return from Ptown.

Below I’ve included the 2014 video we created from Carnival last year. The theme for 2014 was perhaps the best in recent memory – Comic Book Capers – enjoy the video and check back next week for my Carnival 2015 video.

40 Year Old Virgin was released 10 years ago this week

steve carell, movieI was surprised to read that it was 10 years ago this week that The 40 Year Old Virgin staring Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and others was released.

Ten years ago I was working in an office where the average age of most employees was mid-20s and this movie was talked about and quoted non-stop. I couldn’t believe it was released 10 years ago and checked with IMDB which confirmed that Carell’s surprise summer smash was released on August 19, 2005.

Here is a bit from the movie that had me in stitches when I first watched it. Mind the language if you are watching this in your office (NSFW).  It is just as funny without the sound.

100 years of men’s swimwear in 3 minutes

Check out this compilation of men’s swimwear fashion over the past 100 years . The swimsuits are horribly ugly, but there is something very distracting about watching the handsome male model disrobe and put on each decade’s bathing suit.

If you like what you hear / see you can still catch Well Strung performing through the rest of the summer in Provincetown at the Art House.

Did you think they were going to stand by while you made them pay $20 billion for privilege of having a javelin contest in their town?”
