Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle
Farmers Markets make for a good day
I recently took a trip to the local farmer’s market and walked away with a lot more than just groceries. It was great to get outside and walk through the market. My skin was warmed by sunshine and the place smelled of fresh vegetables, roasted nuts, and flowers. I interacted with vendors and discussed the origin of the foods they were selling, which as we are slowly learning is very important (Grass-fed vs. Corn-fed Beef; Farmed Fish vs Wild-caught Fish).
I was not tempted by microwave dinners or ice cream, but was presented with food as nature intended. I ended up walking away with more and spent less than I do at the grocery store, with this robust feeling of well-being that isn’t possible under fluorescent lights. Find your local farmer’s market here: Boston Area Farmer’s Markets.

AIDS Walk & 5k Run Boston
The 29th AIDS Walk & 5k Run Boston took place yesterday, drawing a large crowd probably in part due to the spectacular weather. At the time I wrote this post details about how many participated and the total amount raised had yet to be announced. If you have not donated and would like to I’d encourage you to visit the link below.

Feel free to select my photo (Rob Wilson) or any of my colleagues who participated in the AAC social media campaign to raise awareness and fund raise. This event is crucial to raise unrestricted dollars to help fund / support mission-critical programs that aren’t always popular or easy to fund. Much thanks to the AIDS Action Committee, the many volunteers and those who participated. Below are some photos from all the fun. Thank you to all who posed for Sergio.

Showtime bringing back Queer As Folk episodes
Set your DVRs: In honor of gay pride month, Showtime is bringing back all five seasons of Queer as Folk and the complete six seasons of The L Word and Showtime Anytime beginning this summer. Back-to-back episodes of both series will air weeknights at 8 p.m., starting tomorrow, June 2 through June 30, and then exclusively on Thursday nights from July 3 through Nov. 13.
I remember first hearing about the original series in the U.K. and eagerly awaiting this show after Showtime announced they would produce an American version of the storyline. One year Sergio and I ended up doing a Boston AIDS Walk & Run with actor Scott Lowell who played the buttoned down, conservative friend, “Ted”. We use to have QAF parties since we were one of the few friends who had Showtime. I remember those years and the series fondly.
Vintage ‘Tube
While this isn’t all that old, it is so funny I couldn’t help but share it again. I’m sure this will make you laugh as well, so enjoy this week’s Vintage ‘Tube and have a great Saturday night.
Protect your largest organ
With summer kicking into high gear and the weather warming, you need to be sure to protect your largest organ; your skin. Aside from having unsightly tan lines and the pain resulting from burns, excessive sun exposure comes with significant health risks and premature aging (perhaps vanity will motivate you if your own health won’t).
Recently the Huffington Post had a great article, Find Your Perfect Sunscreen Match, Thank Us Later. It offers suggestions to consider if you have sensitive skin, are prone to breaking out, if you suffer from dry skin, etc… Do yourself a favor and find the right match for your skin and apply liberally through out the summer.

Cathedral Station to open Thursday, June 12th
Today, Cathedral Station announced they would open to the public at 7pm on Thursday, June 12th. Cathedral Station will market itself as Boston’s gay sports bar, making it a great place to catch a Sox game, meet up with friends or play a game of pool or darts.
Cathedral Station’s opening ends a long streak of gay bars closing. The space is also truly unique since it is the only gay bar in Boston that offers free parking as well as outdoor space. Welcome to the neighborhood Cathedral Station – I wish you much luck.
Manifest by Blake Little
Earlier this week I was pleasantly surprised when Blake Little’s book, Manifest, arrived at my house. The coffee table book has 100+ pages of men from coast to coast photographed by Blake Little. As Nick Offerman says in the foreward “These people look like men, like real men.” Clearly my weekly Furry Friday posts have found new found inspiration in Blake’s collection.
Thank you very much for sending this to me. I have proudly placed it on my coffee table and will continue to peruse it. If you’d like to read more about this book or order a copy visit manifestbook.com.
Cathedral Station’s big announcement
When Fritz closed earlier this year many locals bemoaned the loss of such a friendly, neighborhood bar. Recent years has seen a steady decline in operating gay bars here in Boston and only a handful remain. However, shortly after Fritz’s closing rumors started to fly that the staff was looking for a new space to reopen.
Since then, when they would open has been the topic of much discussion. If you are among the curious speculating when they might open, I would strongly recommend that you check out The Cathedral Station Facebook Page at 5PM.

I’ve posted this guy before but when I saw this photo of him last month on Tales of the Sissy blog, I knew I’d be posting him again.
