Ice cream showdown from 2-4PM

ATTENTION ICE CREAM LOVAHS

The 4th annual Ice Cream Showdown will be held on the Rose Kennedy Greenway from 2-4PM today.

Some of the city’s most delicious ice cream shops will be on hand sampling their creamy treats to all who support the event.  Money raised will go to benefit Community Servings and Lovin’ Spoonfuls; two local nonprofit organizations who help feed Boston’s less fortunate. This year’s one day ice cream celebration will feature newcomers FoMu, along with JP Licks, Giovanna Gelato e Sorbet, Picco, and Toscanini’s.

Keep calm and…

Finally a “Keep Calm” saying I can relate to.

BosGuy brain teaser

Each Friday morning I post a riddle or brain teaser.  The idea is to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.  If you cannot figure this out, share it with friends or co-workers and collectively you may get the right answer.

Don’t despair if you are stumped.  Some of these riddles / brain teasers I can’t figure out either.

I do not publish correct answer in the comments section until lunch time here on the East coast to give people a chance to guess and write their answers.

If you throw me from the window,
I will leave a grieving wife.
Bring me back, but in the door, and
You’ll see someone giving life!

Fashion’s Night Out Boston: Movie under the stars

FNO Boston 2012The Shops at Prudential Center is participating in Fashion’s Night Out in Boston tonight by hosting a free screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s at sundown on the South Garden.

It would be easy to make this into a great date night; have dinner across the street on Huntington Avenue at Brasserie Jo then hop over to the South Garden and enjoy the show. Dinner and a movie is rarely this romantic.

Shopping spree

bo concept coffee tableMy home was in shambles through much of July as we put in new flooring and repainted our apartment in Boston.  Shortly after the construction concluded we purged our furniture, which was showing its age and started purchasing replacements.  This weekend we purchased this coffee table from Bo Concepts.

What the image doesn’t show is the glass portion of the table is on hinges so I may store a blanket there to snuggle up with on my couch.

Stephen King’s message to Mitt Romney

Stephen King Author, Stephen King, had this to say about the Republican Party’s stand on taxing the wealthy. You may read the full article that ran on Daily Beast here.

Here is an excerpt of what King wrote:

Mitt Romney has said in effect, “I’m rich and I don’t apologize for it.” Nobody wants you to, Mitt. What some of us want—those who aren’t blinded by a lot of bullshit persiflage thrown up to mask the idea that rich folks want to keep their damn money—is for you to acknowledge that you couldn’t have made it in America withoutAmerica. That you were fortunate enough to be born in a country where upward mobility is possible (a subject upon which Barack Obama can speak with the authority of experience), but where the channels making such upward mobility possible are being increasingly clogged. That it’s not fair to ask the middle class to assume a disproportionate amount of the tax burden. Not fair? It’s un-fucking-American is what it is. I don’t want you to apologize for being rich; I want you to acknowledge that in America, we all should have to pay our fair share. That our civics classes never taught us that being American means that—sorry, kiddies—you’re on your own. That those who have received much must be obligated to pay—not to give, not to “cut a check and shut up,” in Governor Christie’s words, but to pay—in the same proportion. That’s called stepping up and not whining about it. That’s called patriotism, a word the Tea Partiers love to throw around as long as it doesn’t cost their beloved rich folks any money.

Boston’s finest?

boston police carThis morning, while I was driving Sergio from the South End into the Back Bay, we were inching down Dartmouth Street which at certain times of the day (like the morning commute) is very slow moving.

As if the reputation of Boston drivers isn’t bad enough

One reason it is so tough to get down Dartmouth Street is because jerks drivers block intersections.  I usually just shake my head and think “dumb ass” so I was agog when this Boston police cruiser paused at the crosswalk then opted to drive another 10′ forward essentially blocking off any cars on Appleton Street (the intersection).

Notice the space behind the cruiser?  That’s because we stayed back behind the crosswalk in case the cruiser would decide to back up. The cruiser and I parted ways about a half mile down the road when I turned onto Huntington Avenue. I wonder how many other intersections this car blocked as he/she went on their way?

Suddenly it makes sense

Yoga is one of those activities that so many people rave about. I’ll be honest, I’ve given it a try before but never really got into it.  However after seeing this handsome man, I’m willing to reconsider.

Namaste

Ted KennedyThe Dream Lives On

Last night the Democratic National Convention (DNC) paid tribute to my former Senator who passed away in 2009.  During the tribute they listed his many accomplishments, and while all were impressive and admirable, one in particular spoke to me when he was referred to as “The Leader of LGBT Rights”.

I miss my former Senator
