Or have you never visited and curious what part of town to book your hotel? Take this survey; it is all in good fun.

Thanks to blogger / friend Julian for telling me about this.

Talk to me campaign

Trevor Lifeline: (866) 488-7386

In 2010, outraged by so many gay and lesbian youth committing suicide, Dan Savage created the It Gets Better Project.  Now the Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth has now launched the Talk To Me campaign

SpeakEasy Stage one day sale

speakeasy stage bostonWhile I enjoy the travelling Broadway productions, I really prefer supporting Boston’s local theater companies.  One of my favorite theater companies is the SpeakEasy Stage, which I’ve written a fair bit about here.

Today only the SpeakEasy Stage Co is having a one day sale. The sale, which started online at  midnight, for select performances for both The Motherf**cker with the Hat (September 14 – 20 shows only) and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (October 19 – 25 shows only) are just $25 (not including service fees).  If you purchase tickets at the Box Office at 527 Tremont Street in the South End you can avoid the service fees too (Box Office is open from 12-6PM).

This is an amazing deal and opportunity for you to plan a fun night out with someone special or a group of friends.  Help support Boston’s theater scene and make plans with your friends today.  More about The SpeakEasy Stage, their 2012-2013 season and how to buy tickets online here.

Jehovah’s Witnesses want the deaf to stop masturbating

On September 1st, Jehovah’s Witnesses released a video encouraging the deaf not to masturbate.  As you may imagine,  the video is now going viral.

Copies of the original video are now all over YouTube, like the video I’ve included below, which has these well intended Jehovah Witnesses signing t0  R. Kelly’s Ignition Remix.

Feel free to watch this at work.  Although the subject matter may be objectionable its all in sign language.  I’m sure everyone will be crowding around your cube / office to see this comical video.

Who knew that the deaf were masturbating so much?

The Welcoming Committee

In July, Lisa DeCanio from BostonInno asked the question in her column Why is Making Friends in Boston so Hard?  A few weeks later I found myself in Cambridge sitting across from Daniel Heller and Ashley Lucas from The Welcoming Committee (TWC).

Not familiar with TWC? Its affiliated with Guerrilla Queer Bar (GQB), a group that achieved notoriety for taking over bars the first Friday of each month not typically considered gay or gay-friendly. GQB nights in Boston routinely brings 500+ 20 and 30-somethings.  Later this week GQB will be hosting their next take over. Interested? Check out TWC FB page for more information. The success of that group has now expanded to include The Welcoming Committee (TWC).

Recognizing it can be hard to connect with people and gay and lesbian men and women may feel uncomfortable venturing out on their own to certain venues, TWC started planning social events that take a page out of the Guerrilla Queer Bar playbook; planning social events away from the bars and in locations not typically considered “gay”.

This group has hopes their “take over” model will go viral.  To encourage the Boston LGBT community to connect and explore other places in the city, they have launched what I believe is the first mobile app of its kind.  NOTE: At the time this post was published the App was not available. It is awaiting approval by Apple and is expected very soon.

Curious to learn more about TWC?  Visit them online at, http://thewelcomingcommittee.com.

Give your coworkers a boost today

helping handToday is the first day back after the Labor Day Weekend in the United States which also signifies the end of the summer season for Americans.

It has been a struggle to get back into the swing of things.  Perhaps you work with someone  like me; cut them a bit of slack and give them a boost. I know I could use it. I’m already thinking about Friday.

Marriage equality in Australia

Do you live in or have friends in Australia?  This is a great video to share with them and to post on your facebook page.  The video explains why legalizing marriage is important and repudiates the same tired, homophobic arguments we hear in the United States.

Thank you to Brenton for posting this on his blog Aussielicious.

Pop Chart Lab: Breweries in USA

Pop Chart LabAre you a beer lover? You may want to check out Pop Chart Lab’s Breweries of the United States.  They claim this is the most comprehensive mapping of the breweries of the USA.

All told the map charts over 1,000 breweries from craft to macro and everything in between. The map of breweries is $30 and may be purchased online here.

Above is an image of the map of the USA, and below I’ve included a blow up of the breweries in and around Boston. Pop Chart Lab

American Express loves social media

American Express social mediaAmerican Express seems to love social media and that makes me love my American Express card even more. A couple of years ago Amex created Small Business Saturday as a response of sorts to Black Friday.

They must have liked what happened because since that time they more than any other credit card has embraced social media with innovative and interesting campaigns that have encouraged me to sync my card with their social media sites / accounts.

I think what American Express has done is genius, and I’d love to see other companies take a page out of Amex marketing handbook.   Do you have a Facebook, Twitter and or Four Square account and an American Express card? Definitely take advantage of these programs.

BosGuy cooks wicked awesome pork

Last Saturday I was a judge at The Taste of Provincetown.  All the great cooking along with the chef’s competition inspired me to go back into the kitchen and pull together this meal.

This is an easy to cook, nutritious meal that takes 20 minutes and cost approximately $15 in ingredients.  Substitute ingredients you may not have or do not like for something that appeals to you.

Tip: If you do not care for mushrooms substitute the vegetable with something similar that will absorb some of the juice and flavoring of the mango salsa; refrain from starches – vegetables work best.
