Nail me good salon

BosGuyWhat is going on with these salons?  Last week I posted a photo of Oooh Girl who did your hair salon.  Can you imagine how ridiculous the poor receptionist must sound answering the phones?

“Hello, you’ve reached Nail Me Good. How may I be of service?”

French swimmers model underwear

Hon

C’est Magnifique!

French underwear company Hom photographed eight French swimmers for their new underwear collection. There are more photographs on the OHLALA Mag blog where I first read the story as well as a two minute video on YouTube which I thought was less interesting but you can decide by watching here.

Hey US swimmers how about you step up to the plate and do the same? After seeing Ricky Berens swimming his Olympic qualifying race in Rome with a torn suit that exposed his bum this should seem tame.

Restaurant review: Rosa Mexicano

Rosa Mexicano’s Boston location formerly opens for dinner today in the Seaport District. They will start serving lunch next Monday, May 14th.

The inside of the restaurant is large, well decorated (complete with their signature Aculpoco Divers water feature) and offers space for private functions as well as a nice patio with views of Boston harbor. BostonThe menu is comprised of Starters, Snacks & Ceviches that mostly range from $12-$14;  Tacos vary from $16-$20; and Main Plates are $17-$29. When I was at Rosa Mexicano earlier this week we had a limited tasting menu, but there were enough options to provide a good idea of what to expect.  If our service is any indication of this location, patrons will be well tended to by an eager and friendly waitstaff that is knowledgeable of the menu and not afraid to offer suggestions.

BostonShown above was my favorite cocktail: La Sandia ($11) fresh muddled watermelon, rosemary simple syrup, tequila and fresh lemon; guacamole made table side to order ($14); Pescado de Baja Tacos ($16.50) and Enchilada de Jaiba ($23.50).  The fish tacos I ordered was agreed by all to be the best plate.  If you decide to order the fresh guacamole (and I do suggest you try it) then skip having a starter unless you have a large appetite otherwise you will leave overly stuffed.

Rosa Mexicano will be a popular place, but it has plenty of competition  with a tequila cantina down the road at Liberty Wharf. However, there is enough business for both to succeed and I expect both shall.

Rosa Mexicano is at 155 Seaport Blvd — (617) 476-6122

It is raining here in Boston and through much of New England this morning. I hope this puts a smile on your face and brightens your day.

Oyster Invitational

This past Sunday B&G Oysters hosted the 4th annual Oyster Invitational, which included oyster shucking demos and speed contests, wine pairing conversations and of course plenty to sample and taste.

I briefly chatted with Rebecca Roth, owner of The South End Gallows, while hoards of bivalve buffs lined up and waited for more. Her team was serving oysters as fast as they could but there was no stopping the crowds that came back for seconds and thirds.

BosGuyThis year B&G Oysters was joined by local restaurants: The Gallows, Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar, DeuxAve, Erbaluce, Green Street, Hungry Mother, Neptune Oyster,  Oleana, Orinoco, and Uni. Oysters were provided by Woodbury Shellfish, Riptide Oysters,  Matunuck Oyster Farm, Salt Pond Oysters, Blue Island Shellfish, and Naked Cowboy Oysters. Below are a few photos from the event.

Men of Twitter

BosGuyEach Monday I feature men on Twitter who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following. I refer to these posts as Men of Twitter. This week I’m spanning the Globe as I feature two incredibly attractive men from the opposite sides of the world. I hope you’ll check them out and if on Twitter consider following.

BosGuyDanielGarofali – I first saw and chatted with Daniel when he was dancing at the clubs in Sydney in 2009.  I also taped some of the performances where he was a back up dancer at the 2009 Drag! Camp as Christmas, which you can see here, here, and here. This Australian swimsuit model has gone on to bigger things since then including a very sexy calendar.  In addition to following him on Twitter you can check out his self named website, danielgarofali.com.

BosGuyAdrianHansel – Clear across the world in the United Kingdom is this handsome and talented entertainer.  Adrian is originally from Windsor but has lived in London since he was 16 years old.  Adrian just finished an arena show where he performed as a guest singer on the Michael Ball tour and is currently working on various musical workshops.  You can keep up to date with the latest from Adrian by following him on Twitter or checking out his new website, www.adrianhansel.com.

Man dies when testicles squeezed: OUCH!

BosGuyThis is quite possibly the most distressing news story I’ve read all year. Just reading the headline made me gulp.  The lesson I’ve taken from this story is don’t mess with middle aged Chinese women.  Should you have the same sick fascination as me you’ll read the full news story otherwise you can just take my word and never mess with an angry / determined Chinese woman.

Cinqo de Mayo

BosGuyThis holiday is often confused with Mexican independence (which is actually in September), but Cinqo de Mayo is really more a reflection of Mexican heritage and pride and a testament to how important this group is in the U.S.

The US is home to the second largest Mexican community in the world with 17 million documented and illegal Mexicans living here.  That’s a lot of Mexican heritage and pride so feel free to celebrate. Just like everyone’s a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day – everyone (at least in the US) is a little bit Mexican today so cheers.

A view of Back Bay

One of Boston’s prettiest neighborhoods is Back Bay. It is a testament to  the city of Boston and residents that such an important commercial center so full of businesses and restaurants also remains one of the best preserved examples of 19th century urban design filled with beautiful rows of Victorian brownstones to live in and call home.BosGuy

You don’t need to be a fan of architecture to appreciate the design and buildings.  Modern examples like I.M. Pei’s famous John Hancock Tower literally reflecting the city laid out before it.  Below I’ve included photos of a few buildings you might see if you were to stroll through Back Bay or dine out al fresco at one of the hundreds of restaurants located in this downtown neighborhood. BosGuyWill you be coming to Boston for work or pleasure anytime soon?

So what are your plans?

Boston GuyWhat will you be doing tonight? There’s plenty happening here in Boston if you are looking for something fun to do. Here are a few suggestions you may not have thought of checking out.

GQB – Guerilla Queer Bar will be gathering at Jose McIntyre’s at 160 Milk Street tonight (starting at 9pm).  GQB meets the first Friday of each month in a bar not traditionally gay. There are Guerilla Queer Bar nights in more than 20 cities through out the United States.  www.bostonguerrilla.com

First Fridays – The first Friday of each month the SoWa Artists Guild in the South End host “First Fridays”.  Artists at 450 Harrison Avenue open their studios from 5:00-9:00pm.  Walk through the studios, meet the artists and check out their work.

Junk – Want a change of pace; meet new people? Cross the river to Harvard Square and go to the Oberon where DJ Nathaniel Bluhm will be playing such good music you’ll work yourself into a sweat in no time. Be sure to stay to see Ms Brihanna Stone emcee a vicious drag show. More info here.

MFA Beach Party – The Museum of Fine Arts “First Friday” features live music, tapas and cash bar. To attend you only need to purchase a ticket to the museum. Beach themed attire is encouraged, but I’d stick to something a bit more seasonal considering the temps.

Mr. Dick’s – Want to get out and shake your thang but want to stay in town? Have you checked out Mr. Dick’s Night at Bijou – 51 Stuart Street in the Theater District? The party starts to get fun after 12Am. More info here.
