The face on this poor kid is priceless. One can only imagine how much therapy this little stroll has now required.

This week’s Furry Friday post was inspired by an April post from Mark who writes the blog, Tales of the Sissy. The minute I saw this guy I knew he’d be making an appearance and said as much in the comment section to Mark. Thanks again for bringing him to my attention.
Richard Grenell was hired as Mitt Romney’s foreign policy spokesperson three weeks ago. His hiring caused immediate controversy with conservatives who did not like the fact that he was gay and in favor of same sex relationships. With the conservative base in an uproar, Grenell tendered his resignation this week.
Although the Romney campaign has expressed disappointment and said they tried to dissuade Grenell from resigning, the NYT reports, “when he (Grenell) had sought forceful support from those who had entrusted him with a major role, the campaign seemed to be focused, instead, on quieting a political storm that could detract from Mr. Romney’s message and his appeal to a crucial constituency.”
Hardly shocking considering Romney’s pandering
I don’t want to paint Grenell as a hapless victim. He’s taken swipes at high profile leaders in the Republican party and apparently has quite a sharp tongue so no doubt some of the controversy was manufactured political payback. However, if you happen to be a gay man it is hard not to see the venom that the Republican base spewed because this qualified, knowledgeable individual is gay and would like to be able to marry his spouse. This party sickens me.
I recently attended the opening night performance of the New Repertory Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors. This was my first visit to the theater company in Watertown. Normally, I don’t travel much beyond Cambridge, but I’m really pleased I did. The theater company has a lovely home in the Arsenal Center for the Arts (by the Arsenal Mall), and was surprisingly easy to get to.
I anticipate the New Repertory Theatre’s production of Little Shop of Horrors will be quite successful. The rock musical is filled with songs inspired by the sounds of early Motown and has more than its share of outrageously funny scenes that will appeal to a wide audience.
The Rep’s designers did a great job building the set and the ensemble works well together. I was particularly taken by Susan Molloy who plays the role of Audrey. Her voice, comedic timing and all round acting was fantastic. Personal favorites where when she sang “Somewhere That’s Green” and “Suddenly Seymour“.
With several dining options near the theater and plenty of free parking there really is no excuse not to check out Little Shop of Horrors (prices range $28-$58) so snap up your tickets before this show passes you by. Little Shop of Horrors runs through Sunday, May 20th.

I love this. While I’m sure these guys get their share of bachelorette parties, they would do good business working gay cocktail parties here in Boston. Unfortunately, Crewmen & Company is only in Toronto, although they are expanding to Montreal soon. Maybe Boston can be next? Just a suggestion guys.
Anyone familiar with this company or used them before?
I love how they describe their services “We are charming, attractive, topless waiters and bartenders. We come in two flavors: Classy and Sassy. As hired help we take the pressure off hosting an event and we do it with a smile.” While their current staff is quite handsome, they definitely err on the side of twink. Maybe overtime they can expand and find guys more in line with my Furry Friday types.
My story from earlier this week Boston’s favorite same sex couple was picked up by Huffington Post Gay Voices. I was so surprised I snagged a screen capture, but you can see what Huffington Post Gay Voices had to say by reading their article Romeo and Juliet, ‘Gay’ Swan Couple to Return to Boston’s Public Garden May 1.
Unfortunately, bad weather on Tuesday, May 1st has delayed the momentous event. Last heard, the Boston Parks Department was rescheduling the return of Romeo & Juliet for Friday, May 4th.
Is Grammy Award-winning rapper and Academy Award-nominee Queen Latifah setting the stage (so to speak) to come out later this month? Who can say, but she certainly has raised the eyebrows of many in the LGBT community by headlining this year’s annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival on May 19th.
According to the event website, this is Queen Latifah’s first ever engagement at a Pride celebration. Although Latifah has never come out as a lesbian, I have always assumed she was part of our community and will continue to assume so until she comes out as heterosexual. Either way, it is a coup for the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival to get such a big name and such a talented woman.
Robert Spitzer is attributed with utilizing his position of power in the American Psychiatric Association to declassify homosexuality as a mental illness in 1973. According to his profile on Wikipedia, he is described as “arguably the most influential psychiatrist of the 20th century.”
Nearly 30 years later he would issue a controversial report in 2001 that would give credence to Reparative Sexual Therapy. His report, Can Some Gay Men and Lesbians Change Their Sexual Orientation? argued it was possible for highly motivated individuals to successfully change their sexual orientation. However, last week Spitzer stunned both the LGBT community and those practicing Reparative Sexual Therapy when he said “his conclusions don’t hold water.” He went on in much greater detail about the report’s false conclusions, here.
The magnitude of Spitzer’s disavowal cannot be overstated. Almost every anti-gay organization has used this study to justify their opposition to LGBT equality. Focus on the Family’s Candi Cushman used the study to support the “Day of Dialogue,” which encourages Christian students to condemn gay classmates as a response to GLSEN’s “Day of Silence”. The Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, National Organization for Marriage (NOM) all point to this report as proof that homosexuality is choice. Jerry Falwell and other prominent preachers cite this study to defend their beliefs that God commands homosexuals to change or face damnation.
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, June is the start of the summer months and if you live in the US, many consider the Memorial Day Weekend later this month the start of summer.
With four weeks before visits to the beach and pool become a regular thing, I’m ramping up my physical activities by working out with my trainer and trying to eat healthier. How about you? Do the summer months provide you with an incentive to get into shape, fill you with dread or doesn’t even appear on your radar?
Its hard to listen to the radio for more than 10 minutes without hearing Carly Rae Jepsen’s pop smash, Call Me Maybe.
However, JLo’s handsome back up dancer, Matt McCall, drag queen Rhea Litre and gay adult film star, Nicco Sky, have created a far more funny and visually appealing video, which I’m sure you’ll enjoy watching (not to mention singing along to).
If you liked this video be sure to check out Randy Blue’s tribute to Kylie Minogue, Get Outta My Way.
Okay so this photo to encourage gay tourism in Paris may not be how the game of rugby is actually played (pity), but there is something incredibly distracting about this sport which has made me look beyond the annual Dieux du Stade photo shoots and video.
There is a gay rugby league in Boston. Perhaps I should consider watching a game or two. Below I’ve included a photo of something called a scrum. Not really sure what the point is but it sure looks fun.
We all see things that make us pause and think “Huh?”… The other day I was waiting in line to order a coffee at Starbucks, and I was thinking I should pick up a bag of coffee for home — that is until I saw the price, $14.99. Hmm… that same exact bag sells across the street at my grocery store for $11.99.
Why is the most expensive place to buy a bag of Starbucks coffee at a Starbucks cafe?
