Kiki Beach hits M Street Beach now on Sunday

m street beach, gay botonHave you been enjoying Kiki Beach at M Street Beach in Southie this summer? Generally held every Saturday (unless weather gets in the way in which case it occasionally moves to Sunday), this is a casual and fun take over of a portion of this normally “bro-tastic” city beach.

Kiki Beach Facebook Page

If you haven’t any plans, come down and check out Kiki Beach. The boys usually don’t get to the beach much before 12PM. Look for guys to spread out just beyond the Community Center, first bus shelter to the right. Fine tune your gaydar and look for a lot of bright colors, good music and speedos (of course).

Study suggests PrEP can be taken as needed to avoid HIV

gilead, co-pay cardEarlier this month Huffington Post Queer Voices published findings from a  study of gay and bisexual men where researchers found that taking four doses of PrEP around the time of sexual activity cut the risk of being diagnosed with HIV by 97 percent.

The 361 men in the new study were enrolled from France and Canada after the completion of the IPERGAY trial. They were told to take two doses of Truvada between two and 24 hours before sex, another dose 24 hours later and a fourth dose 24 hours after that.

Taking PrEP is a personal decision and one you should discuss with your primary care physician. This is yet another example of how important it can be for sexually active gay men to have access to doctors familiar with LGBTQ health issues. Fortunately here in Boston Fenway Health and the South End Associates are two excellent medical practices gay men can access.

Boy Culture: The Series

gay film

Boy Culture was originally released in the US in 2006

Earlier this week a friend and fellow blogger, Matthew Rettenmund, released a video promoting a new six-part series to boyculture.

Ten years later, the story picks up where it left off and will be told through six 15-minute stories, creating a feature-length, 90-minute story. Check out this video featuring Matthew (author) and Allan Brocka (director). If you like what you see you can learn more by visiting their kickstarter page: boyculture: the series.

Vintage gay

vintage gayI dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Just how sensitive is your OCD radar?

OCDAlthough I don’t consider myself OCD, I took this interesting online quiz which claims to test your attention to detail. I scored a 100.  Not sure I’m as detail-oriented as that exam might indicate, but it was fun to take. Let me know what you score if you take the online quiz.

New trailer for Call Me By Your Name

gay literatureEarlier this spring I shared a video for a forthcoming  movie based on a popular gay novel Call Me By Your Name .

The new trailer which was released last week gives a glimpse to the film that is scheduled to open in theaters in November 2017. If you are unfamiliar with the book, go out and buy a copy. The story centers around Elio played by Timothée Chalamet and the American graduate student, Oliver, who moves in with Elio’s family in Italy for the summer, played by Armie Hammer.
