Furry Friday

hairy, hunk, muscles, gorgeous, manIf I saw this guy running along the Esplanade, I’d definitely pick up my pace to stay within sight of him.  Now that the students are back in Boston I find a lot of similar “inspirations” on my runs.

Past Furry Friday Posts

Graham Berkeley

911At 9:03 in the morning on September 11, 2001 hijackers crash United Airlines Flight 175 into floors 75-85 of the WTC’s South Tower, killing everyone on board, including my friend Graham Berkelely. While I still think of him during happier times of the year, I can’t help but remember him on this day.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, brain teaserEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.  If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and try to figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s riddle: I am where yesterday follows today and tomorrow is in the middle.  Where am I?

Spain edges out France and becomes top gay travel destination in Europe

gay-travelLast week Bloomberg published an interesting article, Rich Gay Men Wanted: Spain’s Conservatives Make Tourist Appeal. I assume that the tourist industry in general likes wealthy travelers and not everyone who is gay falls into the category of rich but I thought the article was interesting nonetheless.

According to a report by LGBT Capital, tourists are flocking to Spain contributing about $6.8 billion to the local economy, edging out France as Europe’s most popular destination for gay and lesbian travelers.  The report finds that gay travelers spend on average 30% more than mainstream tourists.

Matt Damon returns for Bourne 5

moviesBourne 5 won’t be the name of the sequel set to open in 2016, but it remains untitled so it is the best I could do. The movie which is filming on location, attracted a bit of buzz this week after the producer, Frank Marshall, tweeted out this photo of Matt Damon, who is looking pretty buff.

According to IMDB, Julia Stiles returns (yay!) and the cast also includes Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel and Alicia Vikander, but let’s be frank – what we really want to see is some bad ass, shirtless scenes like the one photographed above with at least one completely unrealistic but still addicting chase scene.

Where are the best deals for lodging in NYC

travel, handsome, hunkNormally I share information with you but in this post I’m turning the tables. I have been asked by a friend to help them find an affordable option when they go to New York City next month; preferably in Manhattan. Clean, safe and if possible conveniently located are what this traveler is looking for so she can extend her business trip to enjoy some personal time in NYC.

Do you have a favorite place to stay that won’t break the bank for a traveler burdened by a budget? Share your favorite suggestions in the comments section below so all may read.

Intro to ballet workshop in South End starts Sept 19

suddenly it makes senseMy friend, Christopher, will be teaching his 5-week Intro to Ballet Workshop, starting September 19th.  This is an excellent way for you to build strength and coordination.  Alone or with friends, the workshop which runs each Saturday from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm is a wonderful alternative to the gym.  The workshop could not be taught by a nicer, more knowledgeable teacher.

The cost for the 5 week class is a steal at $90, making this also a great gift idea.  After you complete Intro to Ballet 1 there is an Intro to Ballet 2 you can continue with if you find yourself looking to learn more.

Making friends in Boston (social clubs and groups)

boston, gay lifeEvery September tens of thousands of people move into Boston for the first time. New arrivals can find Boston to be a tough town to break into and make friends but staying at home is not the answer so I’ve compiled a list of LGBT activities and social groups where you can meet people.  If you have a suggestion, feel free to share in the comments section of this post.

Boston Gay Men’s Chorus is one of New England’s largest and most successful community-based choruses.  Auditions are Sunday, September 13th.

Boston Gay Men’s Books Club is monthly book club featuring literature by and about gay men.  Currently reading Other Voices Other Rooms by Capote.
