Di Latte at Mix Garden in B.H. Saturday 22-Aug
Although I focus on LGBT life in Boston, Ogunquit and Provincetown, thanks to Sergio I have a large number of readers from and in Brazil (and in particular in Belo Horizonte), so when party organizers for Di Latte asked me to help spread the word about their latest party, I was only too happy to publish this post.
If you happen to be in B.H. this coming weekend be sure to stop by and check out this party at Mix Garden. You can get more information by visiting the Facebook event page, here.
Check out the 2014 promo video from last year’s party.
40 Year Old Virgin was released 10 years ago this week
I was surprised to read that it was 10 years ago this week that The 40 Year Old Virgin staring Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and others was released.
Ten years ago I was working in an office where the average age of most employees was mid-20s and this movie was talked about and quoted non-stop. I couldn’t believe it was released 10 years ago and checked with IMDB which confirmed that Carell’s surprise summer smash was released on August 19, 2005.
Here is a bit from the movie that had me in stitches when I first watched it. Mind the language if you are watching this in your office (NSFW). It is just as funny without the sound.
Nearly half of 18-24 year olds in Britain surveyed say they are not 100% heterosexual
Earlier this month approximately 1,600 people in Britain were asked by YouGov to plot themselves on a ‘sexuality scale’. Invented by Alfred Kinsey in the 1940s, the Kinsey scale plots individuals on a range of sexual dispositions from exclusively heterosexual at 0 through to exclusively homosexual at 6. Where the original study had a large number of methods for placing people, YouGov simply asked people to place themselves on the sexuality scale. Below I’ve included some of the data points that I found most interesting.
- 72% of the British public place themselves at the completely heterosexual end of the scale
- 4% put themselves at the completely homosexual end of the scale
- 19% say they are somewhere in between – classed as bisexual in varying degrees by Kinsey
- 43% of 18-24 year-olds place themselves in the non-binary area
- 7% of respondents over age 60 identified any degree of bisexuality
Thanks for the heads up from Joe My God’s blog about this interesting survey. I found this a quick and interesting read. You can read more about the survey and findings from the YouGov website.

Rumor has it Quinzani’s Bakery sold to National Development
Apparently the rumors are incorrect
Last week The Boston Globe broke the news that Quinzani’s Bakery in the South End would close within the week. The 4th generation family business which had been in business nearly 100 years decided to sell. This section of the South End has gone from a primarily “blue collar, gritty neighborhood” (as The Boston Globe described it) to one that is now filled with trendy shops and restaurants and expensive condos and apartments so the news is hardly surprising.
While the owners declined to say who they sold the property to, rumor has it that they sold to National Development, the developers behind the Ink Block Boston taking shape just one block away. Stay tuned as more details are sure to follow.

100 years of men’s swimwear in 3 minutes
Check out this compilation of men’s swimwear fashion over the past 100 years . The swimsuits are horribly ugly, but there is something very distracting about watching the handsome male model disrobe and put on each decade’s bathing suit.

American flag raised in Havana Cuba today
Earlier today the American flag was carried into the compound of the U.S. Embassy in Havana and raised above the seven-story building for the first time in more than half a century. To celebrate the thawing relations between our nations, I’ve posted this photo of the Cuban flag. I trust you approve.
