Saturday night video: Urinal etiquette

It has been awhile since I last post this.  Since many of you may be going out tonight, I thought I should share this with you.   The video actually ends shortly after 4 minutes and is worth watching.

FREAKSHOW tonight at Great Scott

LGBT BostonTonight is the monthly LGBT underground dance party Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) at Great Scott in Allston.

DADT organizers dare you to embrace your inner freak as they pay homage to ourselves, our community and the AHS Freak Show. Resident DJ/MC Colby Drasher will be conducting the evil debauchery with his twisted and sexy soundtrack.  And Nick Day delivers terrifyingly bizarre projections around the dance floor.

The party starts at 10PM and has a $10 cover.

Restaurant review: Roost Bistro

Roost Bistro on Newbury StreetRoost Bistro is a cozy restaurant on Newbury Street between Fairfield and Gloucester Street that opened in the spring of 2014.

I stumbled upon Roost Bistro when I was perusing OpenTable.com for a list of available restaurants for brunch with my friend Tracey who happens to write the blog 40-Something Life.

First impressions of this new bistro were good.  I liked the tiny two tiered patio overlooking Newbury Street and inside had a cozy vibe with lots of natural sunlight and colorful walls contrasted by exposed brick.  The brunch menu is also really reasonable with most items ranging between $10-$12.

Roost Bistro on Newbury StreetFor this first visit I kept my order short and sweet, zeroing in on Spanish Omelette which was generously stuffed with chorizo and caramelized onions and had a side of potatoes.  I won’t rave about the food because it wasn’t that kind of meal, but it was definitely tasty and has intrigued me enough to want to go back and try the bistro for dinner. Add this to your list of new places to try and let me know your thoughts. My only caveat would be the restaurant was clearly understaffed, making it tough to get coffee or our check, but since it was a pleasant morning, we filled the time people watching and chatting with each other.

Roost Bistro is located at 259 Newbury Street and open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:30am.

Dick of the week: Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX)

Dick of the week Rep. Louie GohmertEarlier this week U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert, a Republican from Texas, made headlines after his appearance on a conservative talk radio show called, “Point of View” where he apparently went on a rant about gays in the military.

His reasoning why gays should be banned — they’ll want massages, which leaves America open to terrorism.

Really?  Gay men would be too preoccupied with getting massages from each other?  My response:  “You are too stupid to try and reason with so would you please just STFU Rep. Gohmert.

Le Clos des Fées: Les Sorcières

Wine ReviewThis week I picked up a bottle of 2010 Clos des Fées Les Sorcieres at my local wine shop, Brix South End, and I’ll admit I initially picked it up because I loved the label; it seemed appropriate considering Halloween is just a couple weeks away.

BosGuy wine reviewThe wine is a blend comprised of Syrah 50% and Grenache 30 % and Carignan 20 %.  Du clos De Fees les Sorcieres has a heady nose when you first pour it and a deep red hue that calls to mind some of the fruity characteristics you’ll taste when you first try the wine, but it is lighter than it looks and has a relatively soft finish.

The wine is going to appeal to most people and would pair well both with a dinner or on its own (as I enjoyed it on my couch).  While I will enjoy this wine year round, it would be great to bring to a Halloween party. If you live in the South End you can pick it up at Brix wine shop for $18.99.
