What kind of beer drinker are you
Should you go out tonight, you can pass time with friends spotting these beer drinkers. Which beer drinker are you? I’m definitely an Egalitarian.

LGBT community meet and greet for Ed Markey
Yesterday I was invited to attend a LGBT Community and Allies Meet & Greet for US Representative Ed Markey who is running in a statewide election to fill the US Senate seat vacated by Secretary of State, John Kerry. Approximately 100 supporters crammed into the backroom at Stella’s to hear what US Rep. Ed Markey had to say.
While I entered the room not particularly invested in the election and undecided, I left knowing I will vote for Ed Markey.
For those interested in this sort of thing, the Special Election primary will be on Tuesday, April 30th and the Special Election will follow on Tuesday, June 25th. I’ve included a couple of pictures that I took at the ‘meet & greet’ at Stella’s in Boston’s South End. Thank you to those nice enough to pose for a pic.
France fast tracks marriage equality law
After France’s Senate voted Friday to approve a law that would allow gay couples to wed and adopt, the government – in a surprising move – called for a final vote on the bill in the National Assembly by Wednesday, April 17th; more than a month ahead of schedule. Read more here.

Kinky

When I was a younger I wish I was more sexually adventurous. It took me years to learn that what qualifies as “kinky” is extremely subjective. What is unusual for some is commonplace for others. Where I grew up, just about anything I found even vaguely sexually interesting would be deemed “unusual sexual behavior”. Perhaps this is why terms like kinky, fetish, freaky, etc… have little meaning and if anything are more likely to raise my interest than embarrass me.

Flashback Friday
The Boston Phoenix 1966 – 2013
This may not truly be a flashback in the sense that the shuttering of The Boston Phoenix happened so recently, but I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that The Boston Phoenix is no more; ceasing all publications approximately one month ago after publishing a free weekly paper in the city since 1966.
The Phoenix, as I called it, was a well recognized alternative weekly paper that was popular with college students and regularly reported on the city’s music scene, politics and local happenings.

Grindr Queen by Sherry Vine
In honor of the ABBA tribute band, The Concert, playing in Boston this Sunday and because Sherry Vine is hilarious, I couldn’t help but share her latest video, GRINDR Queen. As you’d expect, Ms. Sherry Vine’s lyrics aren’t appropriate to listen to at work or around kids, but it doesn’t take away from her humor.
Sakir Gökçebag
This art installation made of drawing marker and wire by Hamburg based Turkish artist Sakir Gökçebag made me laugh. I’m of the mindset that if an installation can evoke an emotional response or foster dialog there is probably merit to it even if you don’t always understand or appreciate it. I have to say I completely understand this and appreciate it. I’ve often said one of the best things about being a guy is being able to pee standing up.

BosGuy makes pesto
Pesto is an easy to make Italian sauce that originates from Liguria, a region of northern Italy. It consists of basil, garlic, pine nuts, Parmesan-Reggiano cheese and olive oil.
I love the flavor of freshly made pesto, and I think you will too. Why buy store made pesto when it is so easy to make and you can control the ingredients to ensure everything tastes fresh? I roast the garlic before adding it, but traditional recipes use raw minced garlic cloves (rule of thumb is one clove per cup of basil). Prep time (if you don’t roast the garlic) is only 5-10 minutes.
Ingredients:
2-3 cups of packed fresh basil leaves
1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan-Reggiano cheese
1/2 a head of garlic (I use more garlic because I roast it first and I love garlic)
1/3 cup of unsalted pine nuts
Salt & pepper combined together – add to taste
Instructions: Add the basil in a food processor and pulse – as the herbs start to blend add pine nuts, garlic and half the olive oil. Pulse 2-3 times then add the cheese and remaining oil and pulse again until ingredients are blended – taste and add salt / pepper mix to enhance the flavor.
Once the sauce has combined it is ready to be poured over a pasta or you may refrigerate and keep to have later with your meal. If I can make one suggestion, it would be to ensure you have very fresh, deep green basil leaves.
NOTE: I roast a head of garlic (takes ~30 minutes at 400°). This is an extra step and not part of a traditional pesto, but I like the flavor of roasted garlic.
Kenmore Square’s unfriendly crosswalk signal
My guess is that some Boston University students are laughing themselves silly after modifying this crosswalk sign in Kenmore Square.
Rather than seeing the more traditional “stop” signal when it isn’t safe to walk, some well placed electrical tape makes the signal a bit more emphatic.
While inappropriate, I confess I love it when this happens. It always gives me a chuckle. Yes, I’m that juvenile.
