Gates foundation annual letter

Bill GatesEach year Bill Gates writes his annual letter from the Gates Foundation and this year’s letter is entitled, How We Measure Impact to Improve Lives.

This world needs more men like Bill Gates.  If I were to name a business leader who I admire above all others, I think Bill Gates would top that list.  It is difficult to articulate all the good Bill and Melinda Gates have done and continue to do here in the United States and around the world through their foundation.

Gin Blossoms

1990s rock band, Gin Blossoms, play in Boston tonight at Royale. What a flashback. Who else remembers when their song, Jealousy, first came out?

Happy Birthday

Sergio I can’t believe it was one year ago today we were boarding the Atlantis Caribbean Cruise on the Allure to celebrate Sergio’s birthday.  Tonight dinner is on me.

Wish him a very happy birthday.

Spanx for men

SpanksWhile shopping at a department store in Boston I stumbled upon this display. It gave me a good chuckle.  I’d be tempted to see how this works but I immediately realized hiding my body issues won’t eliminate them.  The only cure for that is getting myself to the gym.  However, there appear to be no shortage of rather intriguing products targeting men to help them appear more fit and trim.  The next time I’m flying, I’ll have to see if Sky Mall sells any of these products.

Crotch enhancerOr even worse… the Instaslim, Slimming Tank Top.

Do you make passes at guys who wear glasses

Guys wearing glassesHere is a little known fact about me.  I find guys who wear glasses very sexy.  I think it makes a guys face look so much more interesting.

Dorchester recognized by 24/7 Wall St.

dbar boston

dbar opened in Dorchester in 2005 to cater to the growing LGBT community

Recently 24/7 Wall Street named Dorchester the 5th “hottest” neighborhood in the United States.  For those unfamiliar with Boston, Dorchester is one of the city’s largest neighborhoods and was a traditional Irish enclave, but in recent years many other ethnic groups have settled here because of its more affordable rents and proximity to downtown.

While my neighborhood, the South End, is often thought of as Boston’s  gay neighborhood, everyone knows that many gay men started leaving the South End more than a decade ago for Dorchester. Is it any wonder that Dorchester is now being recognized as one of America’s hottest neighborhoods? I think not.

Thanks to Brit for the nudge to give Dorchester some kudos on the recognition. Want to see what other neighborhoods were recognized? Link here.

Boston rally to support marriage equality in France

Marriage EqualityA rally in Boston outside the Consulate General of France will take place at 1pm to show support for equal marriage rights for same sex couples in France.  Rallies are being duplicated in other cities around the world including Buenos Aires, Rome, and Montréal to show support for a massive rally in Paris to show support for marriage equality.

Boston’s Marriage Equality Rally takes place outside the Consulate General of France in Boston at 31 St. James Ave from 1-2PM today.

Boston Pride released this statement explaining why they would hold a rally here  in Boston, “The French government and parliament are currently working on a Marriage Equality bill which will allow LGBT couples the right to marry and adopt children. While anti-equality forces have shown great determination and have chosen to adopt a retrograde and homophobic discourse, marriage equality proponents will rally everywhere in France this Sunday, in support of the continuation of the French legislative work so that all couples may be granted the same rights: marriage, adoption, recognition of bi-national filiation etc… French expatriates around the world are expected to organize rallies as well.”

For more information, visit BostonPride.org. Kudos to Boston Pride for stepping up and helping to raise awareness and organizing this rally today.

Sunday brunch

Time For BrunchAre you a serial bruncher? Is that even a word? Where are some of your favorite restaurants to grab brunch (include your city if you mention restaurants outside of Boston).

Something to keep you warm

Handsome GuyThe brutal cold temperatures in the northeast have put a permanent scowl on many faces around here.  I can’t really blame my neighbors but hopefully this will help get your circulation moving and warm you up a bit.

Kudos to fellow blogger, Damien, at 2 Cents Worth Down Under who alerted me to the post and whom I swiped this image from.  FYI – on Friday’s Damien has a more naughty version of my Furry Friday photos, which some of you may enjoy.

Obama cites gay rights in Inaugural Address

Obama Marriage EqualityPolitico pointed out that President Barack Obama became the first to use the word “gay” in an inaugural address when he addressed the nation on Monday.

I thought this particular quote shows a continued evolution from last spring when he first voiced his support. The introspective nature of that initial endorsement has become more forceful.

Thank you Mr. President for using your Inauguration Speech on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to recognize inequality and to call all Americans to come together.
