29th Boston Freedom Rally this weekend
The 29th Boston Freedom Rally is the largest annual gathering of pro-marijuana supporters on the East Coast and the second largest festival of it’s kind in the world, surpassed only by Seattle’s Hempfest. So if you find yourself near the Boston Common this weekend that hazy cloud hanging over the Common isn’t a weather pattern and is likely to make your head spin if you walk through the park. The rally officially kicks off this afternoon but is typically attended by most over the weekend from 12-8PM on Saturday and Sunday.
The rally is organized by the Massachusetts Cannabis Reform Coalition (MassCANN), the state affiliate of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) also known as MassCann/NORML.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. SpeakEasy Stage presents Between Riverside and Crazy
On Friday, September 14th one of my favorite Boston theater companies, The SpeakEasy Stage, will open their 2018 / 2019 season with the play Between Riverside and Crazy. Tickets remain available for the opening weekend and the 2 hour and 10 minute play will run through Saturday, October 13th.
Between Riverside and Crazy
More Info & Tickets Here
The two hour and ten minute play is a dark urban comedy that explores the slippery nature of justice, and the grit it takes to move on. In an effort to hang on to one of Manhattan’s last great rent-stabilized apartments, ex-cop Walter “Pops” Washington does battle with a dazzling array of outlandish characters, each one a celebration of the glorious contradictions that make up human nature. More Info Here.
The SpeakEasy Stage has pulled together a seasoned cast led by Tyrees Allen who’s Broadway credits include Amonasro in the original Broadway Company of Aida, and Westmoreland in the revival of Henry IV at Lincoln Center. The cast also includes Alejandro Simoes, who I had a bit of a crush on when he joined the SpeakEasy Stage in their 2017 spring production of Grand Concourse.
Tickets to Between Riverside and Crazy start at $25, making it a great date option for someone special or just a special night with friends. Show your love for Boston’s arts scene and plan an evening to see this show. Sergio and I will be there Wednesday, September 19th but the production runs through Saturday, October 13th.

Alejandro Wolf lives in Paris but is from Cuba so clearly the last name has been tweaked but reality is not what attracts me to this particular Instagram account. Nearly every photo on this account features a close up of Alejandro shirtless and in briefs, a Speedo or less. If you’re looking to up your man candy feed on IG check out Alejandro’s account.

“What shall we call him?”
Reflecting on September 11, 2001
September 11th has long been a day tinged with sadness for me due to the loss of a very close friend on September 11, 2001. In years past I’ve dedicated a post each September 11th to this friend of mine who happened to be on United Airlines Flight 175, which crashed into New York’s World Trade Center.
My friend, Graham Berkeley (shown above) remains frozen in time as a 30-something who had a devilish personality and wicked sense of humor. If he were alive today he’d be 54, but sadly that isn’t the case. In recent years I’ve used this date to think of happy memories with Graham but truthfully those are starting to slip away from me and I’m left with just a few fond memories of our summer together in Provincetown and fun evenings spent in Boston.
While life continues, I still feel for those families and friends who lost loved ones as well as those who were injured and traumatized in the wake of those attacks.
Temptation Tuesday
Share your favorite Northern New England destinations in the fall
In the summer most people in Boston look to the coast for weekend trips out of town, but in the fall Northern New England provides a beautiful option for a weekend trip out of town.
Earlier this week I received an email from Frog Meadow Country B&B. They appear to have a number of programs and events happening through out the fall that might make for a great weekend away. It got me to thinking about what other places in Northern New England gay men like to visit. I’d be curious to hear from anyone who may have stayed at Frog Meadow Country B&B or if you have other B&Bs / destinations you like to visit in Northern New England.
Share your favorite Northern New England destinations in the comment section below, and if I get enough options, I’ll dedicate a post with your suggestions later this month on where to go and where to stay for a long weekend.
