This week I was able to attend SpeakEasy Stage Co.’s final production of their 2016/2017 season, The Bridges of Madison County. The musical which is based on the best selling novel and popular movie that starred Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood, comes to life on stage thanks to a talented group of actors.
Boston native, Jennifer Ellis, who plays Francesca is a beautiful counterpart to the handsome out of town photographer, Robert, played by Christiaan Smith who spends much of the second act shirtless. It wasn’t hard to get swept up in their romance, considering how beautiful Ellis voice is and the fact that half the audience was gushing whenever Smith stepped on stage (yours truly included).
In addition to the great casting, the stage’s deconstructed design of an Iowa farmhouse and their creative use of lighting was so well thought out and executed it really deserves a mention. I wholeheartedly recommend making a point to get tickets to see this show. Assuming your other half isn’t put off by how much you’ll drool over Smith, the show makes for a great date night. In case you think I’m being overly complimentary, read The Boston Globe’s rave review, which loved Ellis and the production as well.

From Boston Restaurant Talk blog:
According to a Twitter post from @DGoodison, Wine Riot on Tremont Street is looking to transfer its license to Wine Gallery, with a message sent confirming that the shop would be moving into the same address. It appears that the Wine Riot shop may already be closed though this was not confirmed in the post. It is not known if their Second Glass wine events business is also impacted.

In one month Sergio and I will be in Washington, D.C. to participate in The Equality March for Unity and Pride.
If you’d like to learn more about the rally and march on Sunday, June 11th in Washington, D.C. reach out to the Facebook page, here. However if you cannot make it to D.C. but want to lend your voice, many Pride celebrations around the United States are taking a decidedly political bent this year, giving you a chance to raise your voice and provide a counter point to what many (like yours truly) see as troubling policy and language coming from the White House.
If you will be in Washington, D.C. for the rally and march let me know.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.
No plans tonight? Head over to Club Cafe to watch Boston Ironsides Rugby Football Club’s annual Drag Lip Sync Competition. All the fun starts at 7PM at Club Cafe. I’ll be there so be sure to say hello.
This week I’m featuring a friend who I initially met here in Boston but now lives in Washington, D.C. You may also notice that I have his blog Frenchie and the Yankee to the right in my blogroll.
One month from today Sergio and I will be visiting Frenchie and the Yankee so I thought I’d use the opportunity to showcase the Instagram account which is filled with beautifully captured images mostly of his newly adopted home city of Washington, D.C.
Follow him on Instagram here, instagram.com/frenchieyankee.

If you are following Kiki Beach on Instagram you know that in a little more than a month this group will be returning for its second year to Southie’s M Street Beach most weekends.
Although M Street Beach is far from the most beautiful beach I’ve ever been to, you can’t beat the convenience, incredible people watching and how much fun it can be. Sergio and I had so much fun going to Kiki Beach. You can stay up to date with what is going on with Kiki Beach by liking their Facebook page. Be sure to also like the June 3rd Season Kickoff event on Facebook, here.
Johnny Diaz has said that this book is a literary postcard to Ogunquit, Maine where the story takes place, which may make this a must-read for those of you who love OGT. The book centers on his fictional character, Tommy Perez, who I first met several years ago when I read, Boston Boys Club.
Johnny Diaz use to live in Boston and work for The Boston Globe, but moved back to Southern Florida where he is from. However, he continues to write entertaining gay novels with settings here in New England. If you are looking for a new gay-themed novel for the summer, Diaz new book may be just what you are looking for.
The SpeakEasy Stage Co. closes their 2016-2017 season at the Calderwood Pavilion in the South End with their production of The Bridges of Madison County, which opened this past weekend and runs through Saturday, June 3rd.
The Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical tells the story of a chance meeting between a farm wife and a world-weary photographer, that leads to a soul-stirring affair.
