There are no gays in figure skating
Lusting after Brian Sims
Not only do I think Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims is damn sexy, but I also agree with his politics – which in a strange way makes him even more sexy (incidentally didn’t even know that was possible).
So imagine my frustration when I Googled “Shirtless Brian Sims” hoping to feature him as this week’s Furry Friday (he MUST have a hairy chest) and nothing came up?!? Where is the justice? Has Brian never been photographed without his shirt? I think Pennsylvanians should immediately pass a law mandating Brian should be photographed shirtless. Until that time you’ll have to satisfy your more base desires with these devastatingly handsome photos of this progressive, out and proud State Rep. whom I hope we will eventually see on the national platform.
P.S. Brian… Like the song says, “Please come to Boston” or better yet, Provincetown this summah.
Michael Sam steps out of the closet
Michael Sam, the ferocious 260-pound Missouri defensive end, SEC Defensive Player of the Year and a potential high-round pick in May’s NFL draft stepped out of the closet when he told the New York Times today that he is gay.
Perhaps the New York Times wrote it best when John Branch wrote about this college senior, “As the pace of the gay rights movement has accelerated drastically in recent years, the sports industry has changed relatively little, with no publicly gay male athletes in the N.F.L., the N.B.A., the N.H.L. or Major League Baseball. Against this backdrop, Mr. Sam could become a symbol for the country’s gay rights movement or a flash point in a football culture war — or both.”

US federal government is set to recognize same sex marriage
CNN is reporting that US Attorney General Eric Holder says he is set to extend the federal government’s recognition of same-sex marriages even in the 34 states that don’t consider it legal.
Eric Holder is expected to deliver this message tonight in NYC at the Human Rights Campaign gala dinner. I love the timing of this which happens to coincide with the Olympic Games and just a week before Valentine’s Day. I wonder how many more marriage proposals will be made this coming Friday? The NYT has more information about this here.
And that my friends is why I look beyond mere pocket book issues and often times vote against my own economic interests, because if you think for one minute a Romney Administration would make such a move, I have a bridge I’d like to sell you.
Bravo Google
Just in case you can’t read the chicken scratch from the screen shot, I wanted to share what Google has posted on their home page. My guess is that Russia’s Federal Law #135 prohibits the rainbow display and disclaimer but I’m curious if the same message is on Google’s page in Russia. In the US it reads:
“The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.” –Olympic Charter
Russian gay app Hunters is hacked
On the eve of the 2012 Summer Olympics one of the world’s largest gay apps, Grindr, crashed for users in East London. It was rumored that Grindr’s servers were overloaded by all the athletes and tourists who had descended upon London to watch the games. True or not it was definitely funny to read about.
Clearly Sochi is no London. Earlier this week Towleroad reported on how a popular gay dating app in Russia called Hunters was hacked. 
People who logged on were greeted by this anonymous threat which reads, “You will be arrested and jailed for gay propaganda in Sochi according to Russian Federal Law #135 Sektion 6“.
Hackers completely destroyed the profiles and messages of some 72,000 users. On the Feb. 2nd, just a few days before the opening of the Olympic Games, users trying to open this gay app in Sochi were greeted with an alert saying that their profile was blocked for the next 55,000 minutes (38 days). Scotland says “I do” to marriage equality
Scotland’s first same-sex marriages are set to take place later this year after the Scottish parliament voted to pass the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill by a margin of 105-18 earlier today.
Let’s face it men in kilts are sexy and when you have two men in kilts it is twice as sexy so it looks like marriage just got a whole lot more sexy. Apparently, Timberlake isn’t the only one bringing sexy back. More information about Scotland’s landmark vote here.

Nevada A.G. claims marriage equality is like bigamy and incest
Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto (D) has backed off of the brief she submitted for the Sevick v. Sandoval case that is challenging Nevada’s ban on same sex marriage. In her brief response, filed last Tuesday, the A.G. suggested that allowing gay couples to being married is tantamount to bigamy and incest.
While I firmly believe all arguments are highly suspect and hypocritical, it seems even more obscene considering Nevada’s reputation for ridiculing the institution of marriage. Perhaps the Nevada A.G. might like to consider Ms. Spear’s mockery of a marriage to Jason Alexander that lasted 50+ hours or the circus-like atmosphere perpetuated by the countless number of “wedding chapels” in Nevada before she postulates about the sanctity of marriage and the values of Nevada residents.

Can Boston sustain a new gay bar
Earlier this week I published my post, Boxers to open in Philadelphia. In that post I asked the owners to consider Boston should they continue to expand. Boston’s steady loss of LGBT centered businesses and in particular bars is not unique, but it just seems to be more problematic here where gay bar options are quickly dwindling to nil.
I would really like to see Boston have more gay bars. I don’t mean gay friendly bars; I don’t mean bars that are gay one or two nights a week; I mean a legitimate gay bar that is open 7-days a week and focused on serving Boston’s gay community; not bachelorette parties. More than 250,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender call Massachusetts is home. The overwhelming majority of those live in Boston and surrounding communities. One would think that there is a business opportunity here, right?
