10 Rules for sexy gay halloween costumes
Halloween is one of those holidays that some people look forward to all year, and by “some people” what I’m really saying is “The Gays” to quote Kathy Griffin.
Orlando Soria who writes the homemaker blog, penned a funny post earlier this month 10 Rules for sexy gay homosexual halloween costumes. I love how Orlando clarifies at the start of his post by writing, “included are ten tips for making your costume sexy. And yes, by “sexy” I mean offensively revealing and slutty.”
Incidentally the photo above was snagged from Orlando’s post and is a good example of his second rule, rely on cultural stereotypes. You can check out the rest of his post here.
New Gap shirt: Fail
Clothing retailer The Gap stopped selling a controversial shirt after consumers expressed their displeasure. The shirt was a part of the retailer’s collaboration with GQ magazine to showcase America’s best new designers; incredibly ironic – right?
Who is the marketing moron at The Gap who approved this? I can understand a person from another country not fluent in American history perhaps not recognizing this term, but an educated, marketing professional in the US? For those outside the US who may be unfamiliar, Manifest Destiny was the term / belief used to legitimize the westward expansion of the US. Manifest Destiny, which had religious overtones, justified the enslavement and more often than not killing of Native Americans.

This scene-by-scene retelling of the Nutcracker, resplendent with ribald parody, “whisks the audience away to a carefree realm of sexual fantasy.” Do you have an uptight friend? Bring them with you and watch them squirm.
This year’s performance starts on Saturday, December 1st. Tickets are $25 and will sell fast. Here is my write up from last year.
Boston’s Point Foundation Cornerstone event
On Thursday the Boston chapter of the Point Foundation celebrated their 6th annual Boston Cornerstone event at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The Point Foundation empowers promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential. They are the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students. If you would like to learn more about this great foundation link here.
Congratulations to this year’s award recipients.

Restaurant review: Abe & Louie’s
This past weekend I joined a friend for brunch at Abe & Louie’s in the Back Bay. Abe & Louie’s is an upscale steakhouse with an excellent reputation, but I’d not been there for quite awhile – and never for brunch so I was looking forward to my date with my friend.
The brunch menu ranges from $12 – $35. Since my friend doesn’t eat red meat and I was in the mood for an omelette our brunch was on the more affordable end of the price range. Brunch for the two of us cost $44 plus tip; a splurge for sure but well within expectations.
Brunch started with coffee and a warm assortment of breads we both quickly devoured (okay – I ate most of the basket, but I was hungry).
Service was impeccable and Abe & Louie’s brunch menu has all the staples you would want (omelettes, pancakes, french toast, etc…) in addition to the customary steak options you would expect.
I ordered the Newbury omelette $12 which comes with ham, feta, onions, pepperoncini and olives, and my friend ordered the crab cake bennedict $19. Both came accompanied with crispy hash on the side.
While I enjoyed brunch, I doubt I’d rush back to Abe & Louie’s. There are so many great options in Boston and the only thing memorable about our brunch was the company who was with me. However, if you have a hankering for steak and eggs or simply want to try out brunch, I recommend making your reservation for 11:30 or earlier. The tables are very close to each other but the space did not seem to fill until after 12pm so coming a bit earlier affords you more privacy.
