To celebrate Ray Ban’s 75th anniversary they launched the “Never Hide” ad campaign. The campaign has scores of images of people from all over with the catchy slogan to promote their brand.
However, it was this bold image of two gay men walking through a bustling street from a bygone era, that gave me pause. It made me realize how much I take for granted. I can never adequately repay the men and women who were brave enough to step out of the closet before me. The scorn and sacrifice they endured I can only imagine. It was their bravery that made society a safer, better place for me. Its a debt that I will never be able to pay back but I’ll start by saying, thank you.
Attitude Magazine is a UK-based online magazine I enjoy perusing. Actually, earlier this year I featured the cover of their Naked Issue.
Later this fall they will be hosting their first-ever Attitude Awards in London. Leading up to the big event, Attitude is encouraging readers to vote for their Hottest Man of the Year by choosing their favorite cover.
So who will you be voting for? You have to admit if politicians looked like this, getting the youth vote out in the US would be a cinch.
Fashion’s Night Out (FNO – 2012) is coming back to Boston next Thursday, September 6th.
Check out FNO Boston’s facebook page to stay up to date on everything that will be happening. I’ll be blogging more about this fun night out and hope to see you on Thursday September 6th. Til then, enjoy this very cool promo video for FNO NYC.

President Obama sat down and responded to questions on Reddit on Wednesday, proving yet again that his team really are masters of new technology and integrating it into their campaign.
Obama’s “Ask Me Anything” stint on Reddit resulted in nearly 4 million views on the first page of the Q&A and nearly 24,000 comments. One question he was asked which I think we can all relate to regardless of our opinion of the man was: How do you balance family life and hobbies with, well, being the POTUS?
President Obama’s response: It’s hard – truthfully the main thing other than work is just making sure that I’m spending enough time with michelle and the girls. The big advantage I have is that I live above the store – so I have no commute! So we make sure that when I’m in DC I never miss dinner with them at 6:30 pm – even if I have to go back down to the Oval for work later in the evening. I do work out every morning as well, and try to get a basketball or golf game in on the weekends just to get out of the bubble. Speaking of balance, though, I need to get going so I’m back in DC in time for dinner. But I want to thank everybody at reddit for participating – this is an example of how technology and the internet can empower the sorts of conversations that strengthen our democracy over the long run. AND REMEMBER TO VOTE IN NOVEMBER – if you need to know how to register, go to Gottaregister.com. By the way, if you want to know what I think about this whole reddit experience – NOT BAD

Hotel rates in Boston often run $300 – $500 a night for a standard room at a chain hotel. However, travelling became a bit cheaper in Boston this summer when the city’s new 480 bed hostel opened in June 2012.
This new property offers those backpacker-friendly group rooms for $29 a night as well as private rooms for $120 – $150. The rooms are spartan as compared to four and five star hotels, but they are comfortable and a good option for the right traveler. Earlier this summer The Boston Globe included a series of photos showcasing the property which you may see here.
Conveniently located in Boston’s Theater District this state of the art building is steps to all the downtown neighborhoods of Boston. While Boston’s hostel may not be for everyone – this beautiful new building provides options to those on a budget.

Last night the Republican Party had Gov. Christie deliver the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention, which is a political party meeting to officially nominate Mitt Romney.
At the moment, there is no bigger darling of the Republican Party than the governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie. I don’t mean that literally as you may conclude from his photo, but more in terms of his popularity. However, I thought his speech was really lacking and clearly so did David Axelrod who runs Obama’s campaign.
For those who may not follow politics. Many believe that Christie doesn’t believe that Romney can win in 2012 and has his eyes on the Presidential election in 2016.
English remains a vibrant language, and proof of that is each year when the Oxford Dictionary adds a long list of new words. These “new” words become “legitimized” (is that a word?).
This year the online dictionary blog for Oxford Dictionary has added ZOMG and Twittersphere.
For those still in school, I’d challenge you to work one of these terms into your next report. For example, if you are studying the French Revolution you might write something like when Mary Antoinette said “Let them eat cake”, the reaction from the people of Paris was something akin to “ZOMG…” I’d refrain from using the phrase “oh no she didn’t” since I’m not sure there is a literal translation in French.
Jennifer Coolidge may be one of my absolute favorite female actors. I first saw her in Best in Show, but truthfully she’s been a part of many excellent movies.
Coincidentally, Jennifer happens to be a native of Boston and often returns. I absolutely love her and hope she has a wonderful birthday.
I don’t often write about personnel changes in the Boston restaurant scene mostly because it would be a full-time job and there are already several sites that do a great job at following these changes.
However, earlier this week I learned that Justin will be leaving the South End after working here for nearly four years; first at Rocca Boston and more recently the Aquitaine Group’s, Union Bar & Grille.
Starting this week, Justin Ito-Adler joins Ken Oringer’s management team at his flagship restaurant Clio / Uni, which recently underwent a significant makeover. No doubt Justin’s enthusiasm and youth will help this culinary gem, which in recent years had seemed a bit stuffy.
Best of luck Justin. We will miss having you so near us.
