Ptown state of mind

This weekend I’m visiting Provincetown for the first time this summer.  I promise to take pictures and blog more about the vacation at some point but til then I thought I’d share images of this quaint sea side town that I consider my second home.  Should travel plans bring you to Ptown this summer do let me know.

PtownMany have a strong opinion regarding which end of town is more desirable, but I think both have their charm.  The photo above is of a home in Provincetown’s East End.

ProvincetownThe men prefer the dune beaches of Provincetown, but if you are not inclined to hike or kayak out to the beach you can enjoy a cold drink with a view of Provincetown’s harbor at the Boatslip. Of course it goes without saying that people watching here is second to none.

ProvincetownBars close at 1AM in Provincetown.  By 1:30AM Spiritus Pizza on Commercial Street becomes the busiest part of town as thousands of (mostly) gay men come for a slice of pizza, a chance to gossip and laugh with friends and perhaps if lucky to find someone special.

Boston’s summer slumber

At the start of each June, the city of Boston heaves a sigh of relief as the student population leaves for the summer; I’ve read reports that suggest this is approximately 20% of Boston’s population.

Their departure is immediately obvious to anyone who lives in Boston. The student population and the academic institutions that instruct these men and women are part of Boston’s DNA, and as they leave, Boston goes into what I can only compare to as a slumber.

I don’t mean to imply if you come to Boston this summer it will be a ghost town, but the city does become a shell of its former self. However, before we know it, the fall semester will be in full swing and literally tens of thousands of students will be here for their September 1st apartment rental.  So if you happen to live in Boston and read my blog, I wanted to wish you a happy and restful student-free summer.

Madonna / Gaga Redux

I love this Lady Gaga vs. Madonna mash up which is on YouTube now. You’ll recognize other mixes although David Guetta’s mix of When Love Takes Over is probably the most prevalent and does the mash up justice.

Madonna fans by now will have seen the leaked video which shows her concert rehearsals  in Israel including a similar mash up of Born This Way and Express Yourself.  It is now Friday afternoon on the East Coast and early evening in Europe so crank up the volume and let this video put you in a good mood to start your weekend.

Happy Pride

Gay Pride

June is synonymous with Pride for many in the LGBT community.

Although many cities (esp those in the South) now celebrate Pride in the spring and fall, the majority of celebrations in the US still take place in June.

I’ve pulled together a quick list of June Pride celebrations.  Feel free to add dates of other cities in the comments section if your home town is missing. The dates and cities were pulled from the Gay Cities website.

June 2-3:  Detroit, Honolulu, and Kansas City

June 9-10: Boston, Indianapolis, Key West, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington DC

June 16-17: Baltimore, Columbus, Denver, Nashville, Portland, and Providence

June 23-24: Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, New Orleans, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, and the Twin cities

Furry Friday

Gay BearNot sure what branch of the military this guy is suppose to be from, but it got my attention. Perhaps for those who like lots of fur this isn’t enough chest hair, but I think he looks pretty seductive and couldn’t resist the post. Hope you enjoy it too. Enjoy the weekend.

Past Furry Friday Posts

BosGuy brain teaser

Each Friday morning I pose a riddle for those who like that sort of thing.  If you are stumped, share this with friends and colleagues, and I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out this week’s riddle.

This week’s riddle: What word starting with “BR” becomes another word that sounds exactly the same if you add the letter “E”.

I’ll confirm correct responses in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give readers out on the left coast a chance to guess as well.

Free LGBT for Obama bumpersticker

LGBT I wonder if I should request a bumper sticker and affix it to my ass since I rarely drive.  Probably a bad idea… However, if you want one the Obama – Biden re-election campaign would love to send you a bumper sticker. You can request one by linking here.

Hey Pops! Would you still love me if I were gay?

Gay BullyingThis has been plastered on a building wall next to an elementary school in my neighborhood.  It is a pretty powerful message and I’m sure that is why the “post card” was so prominently posted by this school.

I assume this is an attempt to raise awareness, hopefully remind us all about bullying in schools and the need for parents to talk to their children.  I’m wondering if this is a one-off or part of a campaign that is going on in other places.

Gay Days Orlando 2012

Gay DisneyGay Days Orlando (Gay Disney)  officially kicks off tonight and runs through the weekend.  This circuit party will attract more than 150,000 gay men and women to Orlando; truly making Disney even  more gay (who knew that was even possible).

If you are heading down to this huge circuit party don’t forget to pack your red t-shirt. Oh yeah, and have fun.

Suddenly it makes sense

LacrosseI won’t even begin to pretend that I understand lacrosse which was originally played by Native Americans, but I’m starting to understand it’s appeal. I have no idea who this lacrosse player is but I feel like we could quickly become BFFs; at least I like to think that.

Its a shame they wear such bulky helmets which hide how handsome they are but I suppose if I was faced with an aggressive, testosterone laden 200 lbs man running at me with a stick I’d want to have a helmet too.  LOL, having just read that last sentence, I feel like I should immediately find out where the next game is being played in Boston.

Attitude magazine “Naked Issue”

Attitude Magazine‘s notorious “Naked Issue” is now out, and gracing the cover is none other than the retired and openly gay rugby player, Gareth Thomas. If you Google Gareth Thomas + Naked Issue you can see a bit more of Gareth than appropriate for my pg-13 rated blog.

This issue from Attitude Magazine is used to help raise awareness of the U.K.’s National AIDS Trust HIV testing campaign and in light of my posts this week regarding AIDS Walk Boston, I thought the timing couldn’t be better.

I was unable to find any “behind the scenes” videos from this year’s shoot so here is a quick video of the UK Pop Band, Blue, being photographed for the 2011 “Naked Issue”.

Fitness tips from Kris Kranzky

Long time readers know I’ve been pretty vocal about my training and personal fitness over the years so earlier this month I asked my trainer, Kris Kranzky over at the Boston Sports Club in the South End, to share some fitness tips I can post on my blog. I hope these forthcoming posts help you with your own personal fitness goals.

Find the right balance: Exercising is all about balance and if you take into consideration diet, resistance training and cardiovascular exercise you will see better results more quickly. Although this is common sense it is important to recognize how effective combining diet, resistance training and cardiovascular can be.

Jennifer Hudson to perform with Boston Pops on July 4th

Boston’s Fourth of July celebration is one of the largest in the United States and this tradition which started back in 1973 is now televised around the country, but if you live in Boston you can go down to the Esplanade park and watch this free concert with your friends.

Hudson will belt out some of her biggest hits backed by Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops orchestra.  In short, it’ll be “wicked awesome”. Don’t live in Boston? Her performance will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
