Dominic Thiem’s ass distracts us again

Dominic Thiem is a top ranked tennis player from Austria who won his first Grand Slam title, The US Open, earlier this year. However, one might say it is his assets off the tennis court that continue to get my attention.

Back in 2017 my post Dominic Thiem butt distracts TV commentators got a lot of attention from readers so I’m assuming that the photos of Thiem’s lime green derriere as shared by the Instagram atpdudes will have a similar affect on my readers and possibly result in creating a few more tennis fans.

Halloween in Boston’s South End

Halloween decorations in Boston's South End
Could this be Riff Raff from the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

Despite the ongoing pandemic, economic downturn, and social unrest, many of my neighbors in the South End are spreading holiday cheer with their creative fall and Halloween decorations.

The fall is always a beautiful time to be in Boston and this year’s efforts by my neighbors to embrace the season is appreciated by me and I’m sure many others. Below are some more photos of the creative expressions shared by neighbors embracing the fall and Halloween season. Take time to walk around the neighborhood and check out their creative decorations.

Happy Halloween

Vintage gay

This is one of many photos compiled by The Irreverent Psychologist blog and posted approximately seven years ago, here. The post shares brief stories about the many photographs and according to the blog post, this is a photo of Roger and Frank and was taken in Central Park between 1951 – 1956.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven by Yeats

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

I love poetry but I know that it is a form of expression that confounds or can come across as trite to many, and I get it. I often don’t understand or appreciate poems either, but when I connect with a poem it inspires something within me and evokes a strong emotional response.

The poem shared above is by one of the greatest English speaking poets of all time. W.B. Yeats. It was first published in 1899, but still inspires me. What I have always been struck by in this poem are the last two lines.

I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

It is fair to say that 2020 has been a difficult year no matter who you are, what you do or your politics might be. So let’s all be mindful of each other’s dreams and tread softly as we approach election day here in the U.S. and in the days, weeks and months that follow the election.

Halloween in Provincetown

Halloween, Boston, Provincetown, Providence, Ogunquit

Halloween in Provincetown a.k.a. “Spooky Bear” can be an amazing experience. It combines the theatrics and creativity you only find in LGBTQ enclaves in major cities like NYC and Los Angeles with small town charm and quirkiness. I don’t know if there is another small town in America (Ptown has < 3,000 year round residents) that can compete.

Unfortunately, the pandemic will inevitably blunt the experience for anyone planning to visit next weekend. All large-scale events and traditional parties hosted each year have been cancelled. If you’ve not heard, many businesses closed prematurely for the season (including huge venues like the Crown & Anchor) and several businesses are going out of business (I will miss Bodybody and their post season sales terribly).

The Provincetown Guild has a complete list of businesses that remain open through Halloween weekend, and I recommend you check this out if you’ve yet to make plans but are contemplating spending next weekend in Ptown.

Oh yeah, and as a sidenote, MaineStreet in Ogunquit has closed for the season. Can we all agree that 2020 really stinks and we need someone who can end this f*cking pandemic!

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser: Using the name of a certain fruit — in the plural. Change the second letter to an L and read the result backward. You’ll name two things you can drink. Name the fruit and drinks.

Here’s a hint it is a very popular fruit with Millennials.
