Did you make a New Year’s resolution to get out, do more, be more active? Did you tell yourself that you want to meet more / new people? Boston Ironsides Rugby Football Club might be something you should check out. They will have their first practice on Saturday, January 28th and newcomers are welcome. No prior experience is necessary.
Practice will take place at the BSC Medford (easily accessible from the Orange Line – Wellington Station stop). Head to the basketball court on the second floor and arrive ready to get sweaty by 2:00 PM. Comfortable workout clothes (shorts, t-shirt, sneakers, etc) as well as a water bottle is highly recommended Following practice the club will be hosting an informal meet-and-greet with pizza.

Sergio and I typically go somewhere warm at the end of January to give us something to look forward to after the holidays and to break up the winter months, which can be pretty bleak in Boston. This year we decided to take a break from our routine of going to The Caribbean and visit Miami. I’ve never been to Miami, and I’m curious to see what all the hype is about.
Sergio and I are staying at two different hotels: The Standard and The Gaythering. Aside from plans to connect with friends and enjoy the warm weather, we have little else planned. For those who like Miami, share some suggestions on what you think we should do / places we should go while there.
I’m unsure what it is about the kilt but gay men have an affinity for this article of clothing so I’m creating a new weekly post showcasing men in kilts.

Earlier this month Boston Magazine had an encouraging article for Boston Theater lovers. To quote the article, “Soon, Emerson’s Colonial Theatre will be dark no longer.”
London’s Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), which oversees theaters around the world, has partnered with Emerson College and has plans to begin hosting productions in 2018. ATG will work with Emerson to also incorporate student programming and youth programs and they told The Boston Globe they envision the possibility of running Broadway tryouts of shows at The Colonial much like it did in the past. However, first the theater will first be refurbished.
All of this is probably music to the ears of theater organizations, that have been clamoring for more space. For established theater companies like the Boston Lyric Opera, which lost their home at the Shubert last year this could be very significant. Recognizing the need, ATG’s Chief Executive told The Boston Globe, “We are going to make every effort that we possibly can to support the Boston Lyric Opera’s search for a new home.”

Frenchie, a new bistro will open on Tuesday, January 24th in the South End. Located in the space formerly known as Kitchen at 560 Tremont Street, Frenchie is a casual wine bar that will be open daily for lunch and dinner and serving brunch on Saturday and Sunday from Sandrine Rossi and Loic Le Garrec from Petit Robert Bistro. Next Saturday The Theater Offensive will present Boston’s first-ever Saint Sebastian Festival (Festival de San Sebastian), full of folklore music & dancing, a community parade, “cabezudos” (giant dancing head puppets), theater, poetry, performance, artisan crafts, salsa music, and a live Saint Sebastian installation.
The event will take place at Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, 85 West Newton St in Boston, on January 28, 2017 from 4-10pm. For more information about this free event open to the public, click here.
It is unprecedented to think that just 24-hours after Trump was sworn into office in Washington D.C. The Women’s March in D.C. appears to have drawn crowds that rival in size those of the inauguration to the incoming President.
It has been many years since I’ve seen so many people exercising their right to protest (an estimated 80,000 175,000 in Boston with an estimated 3.3 to 4.2 million people across the U.S.), and I can not think of another instance where the incoming President has received such an overwhelming rebuke – not just in DC and Boston but worldwide.

I know much will happen over the next four years that I will disagree with, but I am energized and encouraged by what I am seeing not only in the streets of Boston but throughout our country. As a socially progressive liberal, it is rare to see so many speaking out and my only hope is the intensity remains. Much thanks to my friends for sharing some of their photos from today’s march in Boston since I could not be there personally.
