Kylie Minogue sings “Off With His Shirt” on ABC’s Galavant

Joshua Sasse, Kylie MinogueFans of Kylie Minogue will want to set their DVRs tonight to see the season 2 premiere of the campy  musical, Galavant, at 8PM ET. Galavant, played by Josh Sasse, is punished by the Queen (a.k.a. Kylie Minogue). You’ll love the catchy ditty she sings in the video I’ve included below, “Off With His Shirt!”.

The video has so many gay references it will make your head spin, including a shirtless Galavant tending bar to a clamoring mass of men and Kylie singing playful lyrics you’d expect to hear in a Ryan Landry or Varla Jean Merman song.

Don’t be shy boys
Go to town
I’ll bet that chest
Is heaven blessed

Spring 2016 LGBT fundraisers in Boston

The Boston area has a lot of LGBT fundraisers and events that are worth your attention and support, but it is hard to attend everything. Below I’ve compiled a list of events that will take place this winter and spring that you may want to consider attending or supporting in 2016.

Feel free to add any LGBT events that I missed in the comments section below.

Taste of the South EndEARLY MARCH: Taste of the South End will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The event draws 40+ restaurants and more than a few beers and wines.  This is a casual and fun weekday event that helps raise funds for the AIDS Action Committee.

Black TieMARCH 19: Fenway Men’s Event is one of the city’s largest LGBT fundraising events of the season and is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Fenway Health. It’s counterpart, The Women’s Dinner Party will take place just a few weeks later on April 9th.

Gay, Lesbian, MovieMARCH 31 – APRIL 10 Boston LGBT Film Festival will host their 32nd annual film festival and is the perfect event for all of you movie buffs. Confirmed venues for this year’s festival include The MFA Boston, The ICA Boston and The Paramount Theatre at Emerson College.

Spirit Magazine Networking NightAPRIL 13 Boston Spirit Magazine LGBT Executive Networking Night is not a fund raiser but is an opportunity for LGBT professionals to come together and network with others. The program is hosted each year by Boston Spirit Magazine and is usually hosted at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel.

Victory Programs, BosGuyAPRIL 24 DinnerFest will take place once again at the Red Dragon from 3-6 PM. This important fundraiser now managed by The Victory Programs is an important event to help continue their important work in our community.

theater offensiveAPRIL 28: climACTS! Underground is easily one of the most fun and unconventional fundraisers you will find in Boston. The funds raised support The Theater Offensive.

Have I overlooked an LGBT fundraising event? Please share in the comments section and have the charity email me the details at: bosguymail@gmail.com.

Scruffy Sunday

Destination Boston

snow, handsome, hunk, snowman, shirtless guy, winterAfter spending two weeks in sunny, warm Brazil today Sergio and I arrived back in Boston a few hours ago.  When we left in mid December, Boston’s weather was eerily mild – in the low 60s – but today’s temperatures are 25-30  degrees cooler.

While the weather has been relatively mild to date for Boston, it is always this month, January, that tests my limits because of how much winter lies ahead of us, the low temperatures and dry air as well as the inevitable snowfall.

Maybe I wouldn’t mind the snow and cold in January so much if I saw more sights like this along the streets in the South End.

BosGuy’s restaurant trend predictions for 2016

Last year I had a good time pulling together my blog post: BosGuy’s 5 restaurant trends for 2015, and I think my predictions for the most part turned out to be true. I also think that those five trends will continue into 2016 but in addition to those trends I think we can expect to see more of the following in 2016.

Uni Ramen Menu

More ethnic cuisine restaurants will open.  One of Boston’s trendsetting chefs, Ken Oringer, made big news just a few months ago when he announced he would be closing his flagship restaurant, Clio, a high end French restaurant that has been serving the public for nearly 20 years.  In its place he will expand Uni – his high end sushi bar.  There will always be plenty of French, Italian and American style dining establishments, but I predict you will see more restaurant openings, offering different cuisines in Boston in 2016.

Michelle  Wu and Stephen Murphy’s BYOB proposal for Boston will take off as part of a compromise to reform Boston’s antiquated and unfair liquor licensing process for restaurants.  The BYOB proposal will have its greatest impact in transitioning neighborhoods where paying the $250,000+ for a liquor license makes opening a new restaurant impossible.

Restaurants will want in on Boston's many street festivals

More brick-n-mortar restaurants will role out Food Trucks in Boston as a way to bring their food to the consumer. I bet at least one local restaurant chain (e.g. Legal Seafood or Whalburger) will take the plunge this year as a way to finally get a foot in the door at the many spring, summer and fall festivals in Boston.

BosGuy predictions for 2016

So it is official – 2015 is now history. As you may have guessed, I have a few lighthearted predictions for 2016 that I’ve included below in no particular order.

Caitlyn Jenner and Kris JennerCaitlyn Jenner will reconcile with Kris Jenner because while they may not love each other, their love of television ratings will bring them back together. To prove their reconciliation is complete, Caitlyn will legally change her name to Kaitlyn, and Kim, Khloe and Kourtney will use the reconciliation to annoy all of America by talking about it non-stop on every talk show on television.

Kim DavisKim Davis – the infamous Kentucky clerk who refused to sign same-sex marriage licenses – will come out as a lesbian and divorce for a fourth time before finding love with an equally ill-tempered hillbilly lesbian who has a stray cat farm in the Appalachian Mountains.  Thanks to Kentucky state law they can and will apply for a same-sex marriage license and live happily ever after.

Donald Trump for PresidentFOX NEWS and The Republican Establishment will suffer simultaneous aneurysms as they realize the hate they have propagated over the past 25 years has yielded them their weakest crop of candidates in 2016; paving the road for Donald Trump to secure the Republican Party’s nomination for President. Trump’s ego will soar and his rhetoric will follow, alienating the party from crucial groups in the US electorate. November elections will result in Democrats taking back both Houses of Congress and Hillary Clinton being elected the first female president – thereby making America great again.

Do you have any predictions for 2016? Feel free to share.

BosGuy brain teaser

If you are stumped, feel free to get help – share it with a friend or colleague to see if you can figure it out together. I’ll confirm answers later in the day so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away.

This week’s riddle I previously posted last January after a friend shared it with me.  Here is a hint for you – the answer is a play on words and humorous. I’m sure if you think about it you will get the correct answer. Don’t spoil it for others and share your response in the comments section.

This week’s riddle: A man walks into a zoo, but the only animal in the entire zoo is a dog.  What kind of dog is it?
