Reductive ;-)

Have you ever been listening to a song and think to yourself, ‘wow that really sounds familiar?

Apparently Chad Neidt has because he’s made this rather cool 1-minute video poking fun at artists who have essentially ripped off the melody from a pop songs and repackaged it as their own.

Scruffy Sunday

Scruffy Sunday SelfieI’m pretty sure I would kill Sergio if he took a selfie that included me in bed sleeping but this is definitely a cute photograph.

Best Christmas decorating idea

Christmas Decorations

Serious case of denial

Calvin-Hobbes-Its-Not-Denial-posterI cannot wrap my head around the fact that Christmas is just a few days away. I don’t think I ever caught up with work after returning from Brazil and the nasty head cold I’ve had all week has not helped much either.

There was a time in my life (not so long ago) when I ordered my Christmas cards in September, hand wrote 150+ notes and had them mailed the day after Thanksgiving.  Those days are clearly behind me. I no longer even send cards, my house looks like a bomb went off and I have not started my Christmas shopping. Fortunately the list of items is short and much of it I can get with relative ease, but jeesh. Where did the time go?

Santa Speedo Run video makes the rounds

SSR Never underestimate the appeal of guys wearing speedos.  That is the lesson I learned this week when I saw my Santa Speedo Run video get picked up by a number of national blogs.  I’d like to say thank you to everyone else who was nice enough to share the video, which now has more than 35,000 views.

Furry Friday

Furry FridayIt has been a while since I’ve featured Jeff and who can resist with him wearing this cute Santa hat.

Congratulations New Mexico

Marriage equality

Earlier today New Mexico’s State Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality advocates, making them the 17th 16th state (and the District of Columbia) in the US to recognize same sex marriage.

Denying same-gender couples the right to marry and thus depriving them and their families of the rights, protections and responsibilities of civil marriage violates the equality demanded by the equal protection clause of the New Mexico Constitution.”  – Justice Edward Chavez

Well done New Mexico.  Doesn’t it feel great to be on the side of progress and equality. Which state do we think will be the next to join the 21st Century?

Thanks for sharing the quote Ruy!

7 Eleven leaves Rollins Square

7 eleven rollins squareAfter 10 years, the 7 Eleven at Rollins Square has officially closed.  While nothing is official, rumors suggest that Pet Supplier, Petco, is eyeing the space.  With so many pets in the neighborhood I’m sure many would like to see such a store come into the neighborhood but rather than trading one national chain for another, I would far prefer to see a local retailer replace the 7 Eleven.

Do you live in the South End? What would you like to see go into the vacated 7 Eleven space at 1310 Washington St.?

Last week I wrote about another South End residential construction project that has been proposed and is currently being reviewed at 345 Harrison Avenue in my post, South End Residential Construction Boom.

This week I noticed a rather cool map Boston.com has created that pins current and proposed residential construction projects in the South End. If you are curious to see what has been proposed and learn more about these projects you should definitely bookmark, Boston Redevelopment Authority: Development Projects.  However, the Boston.com site offers a cool view of projects (large and small) with before and after pictures that is worth checking out, Boston.com Interactive South End Residential Construction Map.

No pants subway ride is just weeks away

No Pants Subway Ride 2014The casual reader may wonder if I ever write about events that include wearing appropriate dress attire – which I can assure you I do.  However, in just a couple of weeks Boston will join cities from around the world for the annual No Pants Subway Ride on Sunday, January 12, 2014.

While making plans for 2014 may seem premature, The No Pants Subway Ride is now just a bit more than 3 weeks away and this fun event is worth partaking so note the date on your calendar. You can learn more about the event and the Boston Society of Shenanigans who organize the Boston event, by linking here and don’t forget to RSVP for the post-party.

Here is a quick video I pulled together from last year.

Toys for Joys party recap

T4JThis past Saturday night the annual Toys For Joys party was held in a new, larger venue.  More than 600 men and women braved a snowstorm to bring gifts that will be given to charities that help make Christmas a little extra special for children in the area.

Thank you to everyone who posed for a picture and to Piper Jo Nevins Photography for letting me swipe a few of their event photographs for the T4J video.

Sick BosGuy

sick teddy bearI was suppose to be in NYC Tuesday through Thursday, but I’m not feeling great so I cancelled my trip.

I hate it when I’m not feeling 100% and since I’m so rarely sick, I think I’m probably a terrible patient. I bet this is my body’s way of protesting the winter weather here in Boston. It has been a shock to the system since returning from sunny, warm Brazil.
