In light of yet another shooting in the United States, I thought sharing President Clinton’s quote is worth revisiting.

Last week I purchased the four book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin. Since I first watched HBO’s series Game of Thrones, which is based on the books above, I’ve been hooked. The only part about my purchasing the books that surprises me is how long it has taken me.
Have you read the series? Are you a fan of the HBO show? I’m addicted.
The space formerly known as Francesca’s Cafe at 564 Tremont Street in the South End abruptly closed last month when the building’s new owner, Fredmund “Freddie” Kiley, is rumored to have pushed out the long time tenant. It is believed that Mr. Kiley would like to have a higher end cafe or restaurant in the space, but the existing space was deemed to be too small.
A South End resident told this blogger that the framed structure recently erected (see the above photo) is meant to expand the commercial space at 564 Tremont Street so it will be more attractive to a new tenant. Clearly Kiley has the midas touch when it comes to working the system here in Boston, because I’ve rarely seen anything approved so quickly in this neighborhood. Although Francesca’s may be missed, I’m more than a little curious to see what may come into this newly expanded space and when it might open.
Know anything about this project? Give me a shout.

In honor of the fact that this weekend marks the 30th anniversary of Madonna’s first hit song, “Holiday”, Boston Globe writer, Scott Kearnan, has written a tribute post, The 30 Ultimate Madonna Singles.
It would be tough for me to decide what would be in my top 30 list but the very fact that she has more than 30 legitimate hits is a testament to her longevity and success as a performing artist. I can’t think of a significant milestone in my life that occurred without Madonna’s music somewhere there in the background; it is probably why she’ll go down as my favorite artist of all time.
Mark your calendar because next weekend is the South End Open Studios, September 21-22 from 11-6 PM.
The two-day free event showcases the works of more than 200 established and emerging artists creating art in a wide variety of media. This is a great event to check out if you’ve not visited before or if has been a while since visiting this event that is expected to attract huge crowds.

The Huffington Post wrote that the Twitter hashtag #mysexlifeinmovietitles was trending all last weekend.
The article, Dating after Divorce: Twitter hashtag will make you feel better about your sex life, was definitely a funny read and it got me to thinking what movie might best sum up your sex life? NOTE: Hey Mom – you may stop reading this post now…
Here were a few of the Tweets from last weekend that made me laugh.
The spring and fall are when the majority of large scale formal fundraisers take place throughout the US and Boston is no exception. The following are some of the largest and most fun GLBT fundraisers in Boston. Feel free to share in the comments section below any charitable events I may have missed that you would like to share.
ARTcetera may be my all-time favorite GLBT fundraiser in Boston. This event draws art lovers and enthusiasts as well as many artists who donate their work for auction to raise money for the AIDS Action Committee of MA. The event is hosted every other year but it went dark for a couple of years while AIDS Action rethought the event and in 2011 ARTcetera was relaunched. More details here: ARTcetera 2013 – Saturday, October 5th
This event raises money for GLAD; not to be confused with GLAAD. The Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders have been fighting for and advancing GLBT civil liberties since it was founded in the late 1970s. This year’s recipient of GLAD’s Spirit of Justice award will be Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall. The sitting Chief Justice who presided over the landmark Goodridge decision that was the first to rule (10 years ago) same sex marriage was legal and must be recognized. More details here: GLAD Spirit of Justice – Friday, October 25th
One of the GLBT’s largest fundraisers in Boston each year is the HRC dinner gala, this year hosted on Saturday, November 9th. At the moment, the website for this event is still a bit bare so if you have questions about the program, I’d encourage you to email dinner@hrcboston.org. More details here: HRC New England Dinner – Saturday, November 9th
