Have a great weekend

happy labor day wkd.If you happen to live in the United States you are probably excited about the holiday weekend – or maybe I’m just projecting.   Although summer technically continues, the season ends with Labor Day this Monday so make the most of the last weekend of summer.

Gay ol’ Philadelphia

Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) Last week The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Corp shared their second commercial targeting the LGBT community to celebrate their 10th anniversary of their award-winning campaign, “Philadelphia Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay”

The humorous video features the ever so popular, Miss Richfield 1981 taking selfie’s in places of interest in Philadelphia.  I’d love to see Boston create something like this to welcome LGBT travelers.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddleEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.

If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague to see if you can figure it out together.

I’ll confirm answers later in the day so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance.

This weeks riddle:

One Sunday evening a little past five
The man of the house was found not alive.
It was a murder, a knife in his back
Police questioned all about the attack.
Jan had been busy, cooking the dinner
Jill had gone running, just to get thinner.
Jane had gone outside to pick up the mail
Which one of these three would end up in jail?

State shares list of nearly 200 marijuana dispensaries

potLast week the state’s Department of Public Health released a list of nearly 200 applications for marijuana dispensaries around the state; including 21 applications for Suffolk County here in Boston.

The public health department is conducting a two-phase application process. Qualified applicants will be eligible to proceed where a selection committee will conduct an in-depth review and select dispensaries through a competitive process.  The department is expected to approve up to 35 dispensaries by the end of the year, including at least one, but not more than five, in each county.

Provincetown Carnival celebration

Provincetown Carnival 2013One week ago today Provincetown’s main drag, Commercial Street, was already crowded with people dressed in Las Vegas inspired, theme costumes even though the parade wouldn’t even make it to where I was in the West End for another three hours.

For those who attended, I hope this video offers some happy memories, but for the majority of you who were not there, enjoy this quick recap of all the fun that was taking place just one week ago in Ptown.

Have any questions about Carnival 2014? Feel free to contact me.

Ron Druker proposes a 11-story South End building

South End BostonNote: Druker’s proposed building would be in parcel no. 1.

I love Boston, and I love my neighborhood, but the recent uproar to Ron Druker’s plan to build an 11-story office and retail building at 80 East Berkeley Street has left me scratching my head. The Boston Globe wrote, “Judged against its current surroundings, Ron Druker’s proposed building in Boston’s South End fits in about as well as a spaceship in a cornfield.” Really? I disagree.

While it is true that most of the South End is comprised of buildings ranging from 3-6 stories, a quick look at the image above shows a fairly blighted area filled with parking lots and shabby single story buildings with the exception of another 11-story building two blocks away.  Interestingly, those other boxes in yellow signify new projects that have been given the green light and range in height from 5 to 20 stories tall so in a matter of 2-3 years, much of this section of the South End will be filled with buildings of varying size and design.  I like the idea that the neighborhood will have this variety but do it without jeopardizing the many blocks of Bow Front Victorians that dominate most of the South End.

This location could not be more appealing to businesses if the city tried, sandwiched between the intersection of two major highways and near mass transit. My hope is that these early plans from Druker and others will help build a case for covering / spanning I-90 before long, bringing life to what is currently rundown warehouses, parking lots and underutilized space.

Hanging with Lea Delaria

ProvincetownLast Friday while I was sitting down at the Aqua Bar enjoying a cold beer, I heard a familiar voice from behind me ask, “Is this seat taken?” When I looked over I saw it was Lea Delaria.  I shared the seat but minded my own business but an hour later when I bumped into her on Commercial Street and she smiled back, I asked if she’d mind posing for a photo.  Guess what she said. 🙂

Boys will be boys

Boys will be boys 2I love these photos. No matter how old a guy gets, most men still have that juvenile sense of humor and I never tire of it.

Of course it is a bonus when you happen to be gorgeous.
