Tales of the City: 20th Anniversary edition

TalesOfTheCity_20thAnniversaryEdToday, Acorn releases Tales of the City: 20th Anniversary Edition. I can distinctly remember watching this series in secret while in my parent’s home. It was one of those very rare moments – as a kid growing up in a somewhat rural setting – when I realized there were other guys out there who liked guys.

Growing up, I was led to believe my attraction to men was either a phase that some experience or a mental disorder that if pursued would lead to a dismal life in the shadows and likely to end, dying of AIDS.  Boy, we’ve come a long way.

BosGuy family photo

BosGuy FamilyLittle brother, his wife and their dog are spending tonight at my apartment before flying out to Southern California tomorrow. About a week ago, the entire family gathered up at the parent’s lake house in Wolfeboro, NH for one last get together before their move.  I want to wish them much luck. I will sorely miss having them here in Boston with Sergio and me.

dBar tea dance

This past Sunday dBar in Dorchester hosted the third annual summer sports Tea Dance and by the looks of it, the event was a smashing success.  The patio was packed like sardines and inside the dance floor was crowded all evening long thanks to the great music played by disc jockey, Gay Jim from KISS 108 FM.

Below are some photos from all the fun – courtesy of Sergio.

Same Love wins at VMAs

MTV video awardsMacklemore with Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert won video with the best social message at the MTV Music Awards tonight.  I’ve loved this song since I first heard it and cannot be happier for the recognition it received tonight.

BosGuy caricature

Manga ProfileEarlier this week Sergio proudly showed me this picture and said “Here… this is you.” I’m not sure that I see the resemblance, but I thought it was cute of him to make a BosGuy caricature.

If you like it, there is a free app that you can use to make caricature of yourself called Face Your Manga.

Cinderonce

20130824-191609.jpgToderick Hall who created the very funny, Mean Gurlz video earlier this year, now has a new video out called, Cinderonce. The video is Hall’s creative interpretation of the fairy tale classic, Cinderella, as told through Beyonce’s music. I love the video, but I recognize your appreciation is directly related to how much you like Ms. Sasha Fierce.

Kristof Buntinx designs underwear protesting Russian LGBT laws

Kristof BuntinxRussian designer, Kristoff Buntinx, is launching a new line of boxer underwear to protest Russia’s homophobic laws that essentially make being gay illegal. His designs blend the LGBT rainbow with Russian symbols as a way to poke fun at the laws and allow Russians a private way to protest laws without risking jail sentences.

Called “From Russia With Love”, Buntix is now working with photographer Herman Van Gestel to create a gay themed calendar of men in the boxers that they hope to release in late September.

Want to read more? Check out Kristoff Buntix website, www.kristofbuntix.com you can also check out the making of the calendar in this report from TV Brussel – note this isn’t in English, but somehow I think most of you will not mind.

Tomorrow, the Red Bull cliff diving competition returns to Boston.  This amazing world competition that takes place in Europe, South America and Asia makes its only stop in North America in Boston on Sunday, August 25th.

Competitors dive from a platform erected atop Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art on Fan Pier in the Seaport district.  If you’ve never seen this spectacle, I’d encourage you to come down and check it out.  The competition commences at 2pm ET and is free to the public.

I’ve included below a quick video from the first diving contest in Boston from 2011.
