Pack your bags: Norwegian Air offers $65 airfares for nonstop flights to Ireland and Scotland
Earlier this week discount airline, Norwegian Air, rolled out a killer sale for flights from Providence, RI to introduce new flight routes that will begin later this summer from that airport. The new nonstop flights to Scotland and Ireland which start at $65 for a one way fare are now sold out, but Norwegian Air says its long term lowest fares on these routes will remain quite low, with more deals to come with fares starting as low as at $99 one way.
Norwegian’s eye-popping introductory fares show just how much competition there is among European discount airlines which in recent years have set their sights on U.S. airports. Norwegian, along with Icelandic upstart WOW Air, have added multiple new routes between the New England and Europe recently.

Boston theater: Attend one or more of these plays
Over the next two weeks four local theater companies have new productions. If you are looking for a fun date night or an evening out with friends, consider supporting Boston’s local theater scene and purchase tickets to one or more of these shows (tickets are currently on sale for all of these productions).
Later this week Lyric Stage Co. opens with their production of Stage Kiss a funny play that asks what happens when life imitates art. In this show, two former lovers are cast to play two long lost lovers. The actors quickly lose touch with reality as their stage and real life blurs. What could possibly happen?
Central Square Theater opens with Precious Little on Thursday, March 2, 2017. A research linguist, Brodie, receives genetic testing results: her unborn child may never be able to learn a language. Three actresses play multiple roles in Madeleine George’s irreverent exploration of one of our most fundamental questions: when does too much knowledge get in the way of our basic instincts?
On Friday, March 3, 2017, The SpeakEasy Stage Co. opens with Grand Concourse. A drama that explores the mysteries of faith, forgiveness and compassion. As the main character looks to find greater meaning in her life.
The second week of March the Huntington Theater opens with Top Dog / Underdog. Directed by Tony Award winner, Billy Porter, the play focuses on two brothers who are best friends and bitter rivals in this darkly comic, deeply theatrical fable about family wounds and healing bonds.
Gay and bisexual men spend a lot of time on Grindr
While there is no shortage of dating apps on the market, a new study from New York City-based research firm, 7Park Data finds that Grindr tops the list when it comes to user engagement with the average user spending 2.75 hours a week, far surpassing other dating apps like Badoo and Tinder. Read into this what you will, but it won’t come as a surprise to gay men familiar with the app.
Grindr first launched in 2009 and is widely credited (or complained about – it all depends on your perspective) for transforming the way millions of smartphone bisexual and gay men interact with each other. Grindr now has more than 5 million monthly active users.

Rally to stand with trans students in Boston Thursday, Feb 23rd
The Trump administration has announced a new attack on transgender students, indicating they will stop enforcing Title IX education protections, and they will rescind the guidance released by the Obama administration last May.

Where: Post Office Square || 43 Pearl Street, Boston
Join the Mass Trans Political Coalition (MTPC), and their coalition partners in standing with trans students in solidarity against the White House. LGBTQ Conference at Harvard Saturday, Feb. 25
The LGBTQ Conference organized by student clubs at Harvard University opening reception is from 8:00 – 10:00 PM on Friday. The following morning, Saturday, February 25th, the full conference takes place. This year’s theme is A Call to Action: Advocacy, Agency, and Alliances for a Changing Globe.
The conference which has a nominal registration fee, includes an interesting and diverse line up of more than 18 speakers and presenters ranging from U.S. Congressman Mark Takano from California’s 41st District to Ty Cobb, Director HRC Global, to Adrian Acencion Martinez from Greenpeace.

Apparently I’m an IG stalker. I’m not even sure how I started following @jabella36, but his sense of humor, great body and a disregard for clothing probably all contributed to my following his account. The photo shared above was posted on January 1 which leads me to believe this must’ve been his New Year’s Eve outfit. I hope I get an invitation to next year’s party. It looks like fun.

Update on construction projects in the South End
The Girard at 600 Harrison Avenue recently opened in the South End
There has been a lot of construction in Boston’s South End lately with much of the development taking place in a section of the neighborhood referred to as SoWa (South of Washington Street).
Below is a roundup of much of the development activity in the neighborhood.
AC Hotel South End – 273 Albany Street Construction on this 200-room AC Hotel by Marriott started in February 2016 next to the Ink Block Development. The hotel’s ground floor will host a number of amenities including a bar and lounge area, a fitness center, an indoor pool, conference rooms and more. The six story building is expected (but we will see) to complete construction by the end of this year.
The Factory at 46 Wareham – 46 Wareham Street Construction started on this mixed use building in November 2015. The project will restore the facade of an existing historic industrial building and construct a new addition to create condominiums as well as 30,000+ square feet of office space. Originally scheduled to open in the summer of 2017 the timeline seems ambitious but progress has clearly been made.
345 Harrison Avenue Construction on the two 14-story residential buildings that comprise this new development in the South End started in March 2016. The development is expected to include 585 residential units, 275 parking spaces, 325 bicycle spaces as well as 40,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. Located across from the Ink Block Development this is one of several new construction projects that is transforming the neighborhood by converting under-used or vacant space into vibrant residential complexes. 345 Harrison is expected to complete construction by the end of 2018.
The Lucas – 136 Shawmut Avenue Construction on this unique 33-unit residential building repurposes what was a vacant German Catholic church into a modern luxury condominium. While construction started in October of 2015, no date of completion has been provided, but word on the street is that this will not be finished before the end of this year – possibly early 2018.
370-380 Harrison Avenue Construction has yet to begin on this project as plans await approval after some positive initial feedback. It was last January that plans were initially shared which would demolish the Quinzani Bakery and Ho Kong Bean Sprout Co. on the corner of Harrison Avenue and East Berkeley Streets to create a 300,000 square-foot housing and retail project with 180 parking spaces.
