The Devil Came Up To Boston

Devil Came Up To BostonHere is a hilarious take on the Devil Came Down To Georgia. I suppose this is what would happen if the devil ever came up to Boston.  Love the song, but note that the F-bomb among other colorful language is laced throughout.

Special thanks to my friend (a New England transplant who actually now lives down in Georgia), Nancy Geery.

Summertime poolside recovery mix

DJ James Cerne who now lives in Los Angeles but is one of the founding FOXY Night DJs and promoters whom I’ve written about previously has a new mix he calls Summertime Poolside Recovery Mix.

The forty minute+ mix is bookended by Jacksons – Janet and Michael – and filled with 90s grooves from bands like  Soul II Soul.

Heading out tonight? Check out this mix while getting ready.

Flashback Friday

Flashback FridayLast week I featured the Boston Garden which you can see in this artist rendering of Boston by all the train tracks leading into North Station.   This “$110,000 highway in the skies” as the Boston Globe called it back in 1954 became obsolete decades ago and was replaced by the Central Artery Tunnel Project better known as the Big Dig.

Boston BruinsEarlier this week the Boston Bruins took the lead in the Stanley Cup Finals when they outplayed the Chicago Blackhawks and decisively won game three.

I loved this photo from game three of a fan from Gloucester, MA. No doubt this fan and all of Boston will be cheering for the Bruins in game four tonight.

Go Bruins.

State cap on alcohol licenses for restaurants looks to be rescinded

SterlingsToday, At-Large Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, filed a home rule petition to eliminate Massachusetts cap on alcohol licenses for restaurants.

Currently, new licenses issued cannot be transferred and must return to the City if the restaurant is closing but it will grandfather existing licenses so that current owners may retain the ability to sell their license in the future if they choose. Lastly, this home rule will close the loophole that ties a license to a location rather than a business.

“The time for legislative action is now; cities should have control over the alcohol licensing process,” Pressley said. “It’s time for us, not the state, to determine how to economically revitalize our neighborhoods.”

To this I can only say”Amen”.  Previous efforts to increase the number of licenses under the cap have failed.  This is the first time I’ve read about anyone trying to remove the cap.

Next Steps: The petition must be voted on by the City Council where it will hopefully pass and be signed by the Mayor.  Following that, both the State Senate and House will need to vote before being signed by the Governor.

Fingers Crossed.

dBar is hosting their summer tea dance with proceeds going to DotOut.  As you can see from the colorful header, this summer’s Tea Dance has a carnival theme. Come and save me if you see me backed into a corner by the bearded lady (that ain’t no lady). DJ Gay Jim from Kiss 108 will be spinning the Tea Dance tunes. A $10 donation is suggested to benefit local Dorchester charities.

Things that make BosGuy go hmm…

same sex marriageThis has been making the rounds online and I couldn’t agree more. With the US Supreme Court expected to deliver their rulings on DOMA and Prop 8 any day now, marriage rights once again is very present of mind.  I’m not sure about you, but I’m sick and tired of talking about this. Evolve already.

Thanks to Greg Stevens from Google+ for sharing.

WordPress blogging question

google+Lately, I’ve noticed that some of my posts seem to get Tweeted and posted on Facebook thanks to the WordPress Share this: feature which you can see at the bottom of this and other posts.

Unfortunately, Google+ appears to be like Rodney Dangerfield (look up the reference millennials).  Does anyone know how to add Google+ as a “share option”?

I just need you to listen

It's not about the nailThis past weekend my brother-in-law shared this video with me.  Who hasn’t heard their significant other say “I just need you to listen.”
