BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

The R-rated riddles I’ve been sharing lately have been really popular and I can’t help but chuckle each time Blobby leaves his comment so here is another riddle which sounds a lot more adult than the answer I’m actually looking for.

This week’s brain teaser:  Arnold Schwarzenegger’s is really long. Michael J. Fox’s is short. Daffy Duck’s isn’t human. Madonna doesn’t have one. What am I?

Vintage gay

gay male portrait

What a handsome and happy photo. Any thoughts on when this may have been taken? I’m going to guess late 70s with all that wavy hair action.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Tennis player Borna Coric is easy on the eyes

ATP tennis player, handsome tennis player CoricMany of you are unlikely to know who Borna Coric is but this past weekend he upset Roger Federer on grass at the Gerry Weber Open in Germany. With that win, the 21 year old Croat saw his ranking jump to just outside the top 20 (ATP ranking 21). His victory over Federer is all the more impressive when you realize that this is only his second title and his first on grass.

The fact that Borna Coric is so easy on the eyes will only continue to endear him to me. I hope that his recent victory over Roger Federer in Germany provides him with the confidence he will need to have a good run at Wimbledon, which officially starts next week on July 2nd.  Until that time enjoy these photos of the handsome 21 year old. coric ATP, croatian tennis player borna coricborna coric is so handsome, Coric ATPYou can bet, I’ll be writing about this guy again. Especially if he keeps winning.

Petition to stop Starbucks from opening in the North End

While I sympathize with the North End and understand their concerns, I don’t know that they can prevent a national chain like Starbucks from opening, but I thought I’d share this video. I hope that if Starbucks does eventually open, local opposition remains and the public continues to support one of the existing family-owned coffee shops and cafes in the North End.

I loved this quote from the video, “We don’t need a company such as them showing the people what it’s not like to be Italian,” says an employee at the Modern bakery.

New York Times: Queer Love in Color

gay men of color, gay african american coupleThe New York Times published an excellent article that I wanted to share and encourage people to read entitled, Queer Love in Color

The opening of the article features a call out by Jamal Jordan a black digital director at the Times who wondered why doesn’t anyone gay look like me when he was growing up? Jordan goes on to say, “I spent most of my teenage years believing that love between two black men wasn’t even possible. To my queer white peers, an entire world of change was unfolding: Public support for same-gender marriage eventually led to its legalization nationwide, and queer people were appearing as the leads in more TV shows than I could ever watch. People even won Oscars for directing movies about gay white cowboys. But none of these people looked like me. In the decade since, the wave of change has continued. And yet: I can’t think of a single high-profile example of a loving relationship between two queer people of color.”

That is astounding and sad to realize. Despite the fact that I can think of famous men and women of color who are out (e.g. RuPaul, Billy Porter and Wanda Sykes first came to mind), I have no idea about their love lives and significant others. Contrast that with a laundry list of gay white celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka, Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi and Tom Daley & Dustin Lance Black, and I’m left wondering is that because of an inherent racial bias in reporting or are gay couples of color intentionally not seeking the spotlight? I don’t know the answer and I think for the most parts whatever your opinion on the matter it is really hard to prove one way or the other so I thought I’d use the opportunity to share the article.
